Among The Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix, was published March 1, 1998, it is one of the best young adult novels I have ever read. Let me express my feelings about this book a little bit more. When people read Among The Hidden it puts them in a different state of mind. They start think to what if our world was like this what would happen to all of the third children or what would happen to the Duggars? If our world was like this the government would control everything we do including what we believe what we eat and which person goes in which class. Luke lives in a place that reminds me of the future. The government controls everything that the people believe and the social standing that they are in. When the other half of the world was …show more content…
Luke’s family lives in the woods so Luke was not completely hidden from the world but when the government seizes his family's wood he is forced to stay inside because the government is building houses for government officials. Luke has been inside for six months when he gets bored he peeps through the window to study the houses. When Luke counted all twenty eight people leave from all of the house’s he sees a face in one of the rich families houses.
Luke sees this face and thought it was boy but it turned out to be a girl. He knows this because he wanted to meet a person like him a third child. So he snuck over to the girl's house and they became friends. This girl's name was Jen she was crazy in Luke's mind but he liked her any way. What happens next I will leave that up to you to find out.
The author Margaret Peterson Haddix writing style is very descriptive. When she writes she draws you in by writing the most detailed sentences. Like when she describes the bedrooms Margaret Peterson Haddix tells every little thing including the books the style of bed and what part of the house it is in. what impressed me the most about her writing style is how she used some of the simplest words but made them seem so complex because of the complicated story
Sarah even visits Luke more than his girlfriend, Melody Mercer, does. Luke realizes that he and Sarah have grown close together so when he gets out of the hospital he breaks up with Melody and asks Sarah out. One of the first nights Luke is out of the hospital, he and his father play catch to see what Luke can still do. At first it is a little hard, but he eventually gets the hang of it.
After Mr. and Mrs. Morrison’s accident you see how the Morrison children start to shape themselves due to the circumstances. Before the death of the Morrison parents Luke was quite distant with his other siblings, he didn’t have many conversations with them, or he wouldn’t hold his youngest sister Bo. However after the accident Luke feels like it’s his responsibility to take care of his younger siblings. He did all he could to keep his siblings together and take care of them, although it was a long bumpy
Luke is broken, but is not yet ready to give up, as he escapes one last time. Luke runs away and escapes into an old church, launching into a soliloquy asking God for guidance. God’s answer comes in the form of desertion as the police encircle the church. Luke realizes that he’s a goner no matter what, so he approaches a window and shouts the famous line “what we have here is a failure to communicate.” In return for his final act of defiance he gets a fatal shot in the throat. Remaining defiant to the end is an expected characteristic of Luke’s courageous nature.
Imagine a society in which the main law is the population law. In the novel “Among the Hidden” by Margaret Peterson Haddix, the population law determines that a family may only consist of four people. But in the Garner’s house they didn’t play by the rules, instead they had a third child, Luke. He hides and lives in the attic. But when the “population police” arrive Luke hides in the basement.
Have you ever thought about the Government making a law in the United States where a family is only allowed to have two kids or less. In China there is a law where a family is only allowed to have two kids if one parent. The book Among The Hidden they have the same law. Luke is twelve year old boy, he is also a third child and lives in the attic of his parents house. Luke feels mad in the very beginning of the book because the Government took over his family's land.
After learning the truth behind who he is and the government, Luke changes to be mature. “Lee Grant turned around to see what lay ahead.” (Haddix 153). Luke has adopted the new identity of Lee Grant and he’s ready to throw his old life away to help save the illegal children all over the country. Luke grows up from being a boy to a young man.
Luke is also a very religious man. He goes to church every single Sunday. His closest and only friend is named Paul Leboeuf. Paul is also the minister at the church Luke attends. Being a religious man, Luke feels guilty about moving on and finding someone new to love because it goes against the wedding vows he made to his wife. Being a faithful and moral man is another example of how Dubus created underlying problems in the story.
Luke Skywalker is not well known for his heroic feats or great deeds. He is mostly known for being a small town farmer
The Known World that both characters experience is more analogous than some might think, when comparing an alien planet to rural Oklahoma. The Known World, being the first step in the hero’s journey, allows the audience to get to know the character and understand their personality and qualities in depth. Luke Skywalker lives with his uncle and aunt, as he always has. Ponyboy
In just the course of A New Hope, Luke’s character changes immensely. The critical incident that sparks a change of his
Luke’s journey starts when he is inside the millennium falcon with Han Solo, Chewy, Obi-wan, R2-D2, and C3-P0. During this event, they soon come to see a planet, which turned out not be a planet, but to be the Death Star. The Death Star we soon find out is the ship of Darth Vader. Han Solo tries to turn around but it is too late. They are soon entering the Death Star. When they get inside, they hear that Princess Leia, the woman from the video message, is trapped in a prison cell and is due to be executed. This is one of the first obstacles for the team, because now they have to rescue Princess Leia from her death, but it isn’t as hard as they think. Luke and Han Solo come up with the idea to wear the Storm Trooper uniforms, the uniforms of the “military defense” of the Death Star. Luke is able to sneak into the cell where Leia is kept, and therefore completes his first obstacle, but there are many more to come. After rescuing Leia, she then becomes one of his allies, and will help him later in the movie. The next and probably the most substantial challenge that the group faces is to escape with the Death Star with the layout of the Death Star inside of R2-D2. While trying to do this they are all being shot at by Storm Troopers, but they were still able to escape. Well almost all of them. Obi-wan Kenobi sacrificed himself to Darth Vader so the others could escape the Death Star. This then leads to the final confrontation, with the outline of the Death Star, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewy, C3-PO, R2-D2, and Princess Leia, have to figure out a way to attack the Death Star. Luke is in an X-Wing Fighter Plane and he makes the last shot, therefore blowing up the Death Star and everyone inside. In conclusion, Luke Skywalker is the perfect example of a hero because he shows the second step of the hero’s journey
Episode IV was set during a time of war between the Rebellion, the good side, and the Empire, which is considered the evil side. The science fiction story is about a young man, Luke Skywalker, who travels into space to fight against the Empire. Luke is from the planet Tatooine, a desert, where he farms water with his uncle. Luke’s uncle buys two droids, R2D2 and C3PO, who happen to have been involved in the war and worked for the rebellion. Luke discovers a recording in one of the droids of Princess Leia saying she needed help, and that sparks the beginning of his journey. He meets Ben, also known as Obi-Wan Kenobi, who becomes his mentor, and teaches him how to use “the force”. In Star Wars, “the force” is a magical way for people to control things using their unconscious minds. Luke sets out on a journey into space to rescue the princess and join the Rebellion in the war effort. Luke and Obi-Wan meet Han solo, a pilot, and ask him to take them into space. They plan to go to Alderaan, Princess Leia’s home planet; however, they are unintentionally sucked into the Death Star, the spacecraft and weapon of the Empire. They find out that Princess Leia is being held in the Death Star, and they plan to help her escape. While Han and Luke try to help Leia, Obi-Wan is fighting Darth Vader, the evil leader of the Empire. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan is killed by Darth Vader; although, Luke, Han and Leia escape the Death Star. They go to a Rebellion headquarter and find the weak spot of the Death Star.
He is then discouraged because he doesn't know how he would go about it. 2) He is then convinced to go with the help of a figure who gives him supernatural aid. Luke does not want to go but then Obi-Wan Keniobey tells him the truth of how his father dies and this gives luke courage and he wants to be like his father. Obi-Wan Keniobey gives luke, his fathers laser sword that is extremely powerfully and has a lot of sentimental value to him.
Jen explains to Luke when he is too scared to go to the president’s house; “You can be a coward and hope someone else changes the world for you,” (Haddix 111). In this quote, Jen declares to Luke that sometimes you have to take a risk to change everything for yourself. Luke can not just let other people fight for him. He has to take action for himself. Luke ends up taking action and it works out for him. He gets to go to school and meet other children. Margaret Peterson Haddix sets an inspirational tone for this section of the story. With Jen’s powerful words and Luke’s brave actions, all readers feel inspired to take
He had trouble adjusting to his new stepfather, like Luke." It should have been his father there " (page 33) and " father's hands were like that" (page 35) demonstrates how Lulach praised his father and didn't want to accept his stepfather being in his dad’s position. In this story, many language features have been used. The dialogue tense emphasises the emotion behind the relationship between the stepfathers and sons. Also characterisation is strongly used to connect with Luke and Lulach, for an example, “how would she react, he thought, if I kissed her?” Shows that Luke is a bit of a dare devil and has curiosity to his
