What can the human race do to ensure that another mass extermination never happens again? That depends the human race being united to fight it. All cultures have distinguished people into categories of “us and them”: ethnicity, race, religion, nationality. We don’t see ourselves as one people, but as multiple peoples defending ourselves against others. We don’t see other races as human beings, either. Because we grow up and live apart from other cultures and languages, we see other human beings unlike us as peculiar to ourselves—dehumanizing them. We create imaginary borders around our own kind and shut out other groups. If we, as one human race, overcame these boundaries, then the extermination of large groups of people would cease. Another
This New York Times article discusses the ideas of Paul Ehrlich on population and the environment. Although Ehrlich often resorted to dramatizations and apocalypse-type imagery in his writings, they often had some very poignant objective. Ehrlich discussed the “Population Bomb”, the idea that population was rising so rapidly, that widespread famine would soon be an issue for millions of people. As we saw, no such event occurred, but Ehrlich still firmly believes measures should be taken to limit population growth such as “tax benefits for having additional children” and taxes on childcare items such as diapers and strollers. These proposals and ideas remain highly controversial, as they were in the 1970’s and continue to create a stir even
Could anyone imagine a mass killing, or more accurately described, an extermination, of a group of people with the same race or nationality (Dictionary)? This is described as a genocide. Many tragic genocides have taken place in the world. During a genocide, a human is being taken control of, and being killed because he or she does not meet a certain criteria. It is arguably the worst occurrence mankind could partake in. Tim Walz, an American politician, once said, “You have to understand what caused genocide to happen. Or it will happen again” (“Tim Walz Quote”). This leads into the idea that there were stages of a genocide, and that it can not simply happen
6 million exterminated. That number rolls off of our tongues as we sit and learn history in the 6th grade, or we write a paper on WW1. How about 800,000 murdered in 100 days, while Americans attempted to keep our troops of the conflict yet watched the bloody images daily on CNN. Genocide in our world is something that is impossible to justify or embrace, but we must attempt to understand it. It is only through this understanding will we be able to prevent or stop one of the most horrific acts man can do in the future. Genocide, in both the Holocaust and in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, is grounded in self-reification and the external reification of others. This then, when put into certain contexts, can manifest itself in a
Introduction and Problem Statement Draft The Relationship between Mass Incarceration and Increased Poverty Rates among African-Americans Jessica Mellars Metropolitan State University of Denver Professor Meenakshi Venkataraman February 12, 2017 Introduction and Problem Statement Draft Two pressing social concerns that have been facing social workers in the past four decades has been the increased population of African-Americans living in incarceration and the disproportionate effects that has on the population of African-Americans living in poverty. Poverty is defined as, “the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). The
Immorality, A subject that has become so common that we tend to just ignore it, or perhaps we don't even care anymore. Our own americans don't care about the safety and integrity we once had; within the current year there has been 3,228 murders by gun, 410 deaths due to domestic violence, and 9,495 deaths due to drunken driving. Currently as if May on average the death rate of murders by a firearm is ten per day, one die a day due to domestic violence, and drunken driving racks up twenty-six deaths per day. However, the thing to be feared of is that thirty-six americans die per day on average due to three easily avoidable actions. . Within barely four months of 2018 crimes and deaths have skyrocketed and with the current legal punishment system its slowed down some but its
After the massacre, the trials were postponed for a few months for the soldiers own safety and gave time for the crowd to settle down. .Again Wikipedia does not mention the funeral and the time that the trials were postponed in order for the city and the people to calm down. Propaganda came after and propagandist such as Samuel Adams described the incident as a, “Horrid Massacre” . However, others such as John Adams who was a lawyer, believed that law and not propaganda would solve the case, and he agreed to be the defender of the soldiers at the trials, and argued that the soldiers acted in self-defense Wikipedia does state that John Adams fought for the soldiers, but it won’t say the reason to why he did it, and from other academic
Over the past few years, several deadly genocides have occurred. However, one of the most infamous genocides to occur was the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the “massive destruction of European Jewry during World War II, when millions were systematically persecuted and exterminated solely because of their social, cultural, ethnic, or religious characteristics” (Barel, Van Ijzendoorn, Sagi-Schwartz, Bakermans-Kranenburg). Contrary to popular belief, Jews were not the only group targeted in the Holocaust, as five million more lives were taken in groups other than the Jews. Three other groups targeted during his deadly event were the homosexuals, the mentally and physically disabled, and the ethnic minorities, whose death toll equaled 2,285,000, a combined total that clearly showed how determined the Nazis were in destroying their targeted victims in the Holocaust..
Today, people are not educated about these genocides that occurred almost a century ago and they are being forgotten. In Illinois, there is someone running for Congress who does not believe in the Holocaust. His name is Arthur Jones and he describes the Holocaust as “the biggest, blackest lie in history” (Wang). Humanity needs to stand up and be active in politics to make sure that these people do not rise in popularity or else humanity we will have another genocide upon it. Today, humanity has several other genocides occurring in the world today and it is sad that the in the modern age, humans cannot prevent these horrible massacres from happening. Humanity need to stop talking about what could happen and what should happen to prevent these mass killings of entire populations and we need to get up and act upon these crimes against
In the article “Nazi Extermination of the Jews” by Saul Lerner and John Jacob is about how the Nazi’s began their extermination against the Jewish and how it resulted in more than six million deaths. This source was written in 2007, so it’s not that old of an article. The article gives a summary of the event and the significance of this event. Some of the main things that are mentioned are how this occasion started, how the Jews were treated and who was the leader of this horrific event.
The mass extermination of European Jews was, without a doubt due to the actions of the Third Reich. The question up for debate was whether this extermination was a product of Adolf Hitler’s methodical planning and execution under his direct order, or the accumulation of unplanned events driven by the Germans anti-Semitic views? These two polar opposite views of “intentionalism” and “structuralism” both have convincing evidence that support each of their own theories.
If you've taken the time to book an exterminator, you want to make sure you get your money's worth with every visit.
When you think of the massacre, who is the first one in your mind? I immediately think of the people living there who are involved, the situation in which you are, the children who are inferior to the world. Many can be mistaken when we say that a massacre, the person being murdered by a guilty sin. Would it be good or bad would it bring to the majority. How are the families of those who are dead and who are separated from their husbands?
This paper analyzes each influence of the Nazi German decision making process for extermination and supports the hypothesis that, the decision making process for extermination weighed several other factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, physical status, the extermination camp, and political views; being Jewish did not outweigh those other factors. Although Judaism is linked to an overwhelming number of deaths, religion was not the only factor that lead Nazi Germans to kill some prisoners over others.
What do you think of when someone says extermination? you think of killing, murder, execution, and slaughter. Well so did Adolf Hitler, he had the idea of exterminating the whole world of Jewish people once and for all starting with Europe. He is in the top 13 deadliest dictators in history. Hitler killed Jews in ways that each death was worse than the last. He held mass shootings, medical experiments, and extermination centers. Hitler put them in gas chambers, overworked them and starved them, eventually leading to disease. Out of nine million Jews Hitler killed six million in Europe alone and victimized millions more.
3. The mass murderer kills due to a warped sense of love and loyalty, a desire to save their loved ones from misery and hardship. Typically it is a husband/father who is despondent over the fate of the family unit. Sometimes, as in the case of the Manson family, the murders are done by a cult group being obedient to their charismatic leader.
