Mass shootings in the United States is a huge problem that has seemed to become a norm, faced rarely by other developed country. On October 1st, 2017 the most deadliest mass shooting in US history took place, suppressing the Orlando nightclub shooting just over one year earlier. This just like every other mass shooting has gun owners and opposers scrambling on what we should do next to fix this terrible problem. This shooting took place in the late hours of October 1st. Stephen paddock set up in a suite at the Mandalay Bay hotel on the 32nd floor. Overlooking the Route 91 Harvest country music festival that had approximately 22,000 people attending that night. At 10:05 he readied his stockpile of 23 various types of guns. He then began to
Forty-five nationwide shootings occurred in the year 2015 where numerous innocent children were killed by cold, hearted adults. Enough is enough with these unforgivable tragedies happening again and again. No matter what schools say about ways already enforced, it is obviously not working because since the well-known shooting of Sandy Hook there has been 142. School is a place to teach and give knowledge to students in a happy, healthy setting. When kids are going to school they are not happy to learn when schools have tendencies to be attacked by an insider or outsider. Children are dying, the future of America are being killed in a place where they are forced to go by law. Loving parents send these children in hopes to
Most of the history about this subject only goes back 70 years ago. Before that, no one knew what mass shootings were. These events were not normally committed during those times. This subject is a relatively new concept predominantly found in the U.S. In a recent study, it shows that we are the leading country for mass-shootings (Willingham). Following our country is the Philippines, with a difference of 72 shootings (Willingham). But it does not stop there. These events are rising with new mass shootings such as the Las Vegas Shooting, which is now the largest one in our country's history with over 50 deaths and over 500 injuries (Yan, et. al.). Even though these shootings are not near Thomasville, they still hit home. These circumstances could easily strike in our town with not time to plan, but to plan, but we could prevent them. Most of these events are mainly located in California,
Gun control in the U.S has been a highly talked about topic the past couple of years. Through the development of technology and social media; many people across the country have been more involved in voicing their opinions about this issue. America is known as the land of the free, many people take pride in being able to bare arms. However, this right has been abused by not only civilians, but law enforcement as well. The United States has the 31st highest rate of gun violence in the world and it is not decreasing anytime soon. The phrase “America's largest mass shooting” has been reassigned to numerous occurrences that have taken place over the past decade. It is apparent that through these tragedies it is time for a serious change, innocent lives are being lost for no reason.
As stated before mass shootings have increased drastically throughout the decades. Just within 2017, the number of mass shootings are 293 with several deaths and injuries, (“Gun Violence Archive”). Within the last 10 years, the deadliest mass shootings have occurred in America history, (CNN). Recently in Las Vegas, Nevada held a music festival for people to enjoy and listen to music, but a shooting changed the evening for many. A man was in an hotel near the event and shot down towards the people and killed a total of 58 people and injured at least 200, (CNN). The Orlando shooting was right behind it with a total of 49 dead, (CNN). Since this has become a part of our everyday lives, we rarely hear about all the mass shootings that kill not even into the double digits.
I'm hurt and sickened by the actions of this man. As we stand by and watch the biggest mass shooting in American history unfold, there are a few things we need to remember.
Gunmans in Mass shootings such as Stephen Paddock was the shooter on October 1, 2017 When he opened fire during a show he had killed 59 people and injured 527 people. In the hours after the retired accountant committed the shooting, authorities rolled out frightening new details, including the discovery of scopes on rifles at the resort and explosives at his home.A team of six officers spoke with security at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, where Paddock was staying, and searched the hotel floor-by-floor Sunday night before they found Paddock's room, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters.
Inside of a club people are dancing and socializing then the music has a strange beat and people are falling to the ground then they realize that's not music those are gunshots. Those shots were shot by Omar Mateen who was the shooter in america's largest mass shooting. Omar did many things before the shooting that lead up to it. The shooting was horrible many people died and many were injured. Omars whole life was Violence which could be the reason of why he did this.
In America, average citizens are subjected to mass shootings that are becoming more frequent and deadlier. A major underlying cause of these fatal mass shootings is the corruption in America’s mental health system. The government has provided stricter gun reforms and “stricter” gun control laws as a possible solution to this problem. Despite the government's efforts to eradicate this problem, mass shootings are still a major threat to society because guns are easily accessible to people who will use them in the wrong way. The government needs to take action such as making more gun laws focusing on mental health, more health educational campaigns, making more resources available that focus on coping skills for anger and conflict resolution
Mass murders have become somewhat of an epidemic in the U.S. There are many notable shootings within our recent history; so many that they’ve become somewhat normalized in today’s society. The Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in 2012 is one of the well-known shootings that has occurred in the past five years. I remember when I first heard of the tragedy that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut. Even though it occurred far away, it hit close to home, and I broke down after hearing that twenty young lives had been taken. The shooter, Adam Lanza, had been diagnosed with mental health disorders and reportedly had an obsession with mass shootings. In the article, “Adam Lanza’s Mental Problems ‘Completely Untreated’ Before Newtown Shootings, Report
I completely support those who stand up for our constitutional right to bear arms, but in light of the recent shootings, is it time for state and federal health officials to declare a national public health emergency? Is it really ok that we be allowed to purchase an excessive amount of firearms, does that not raise any eyebrows? This is a national epidemic. I want to ask Congress to place limits on firearm purchases, ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and provide funds for gun violence research. Americans deserve to be able to walk, celebrate and gather in large groups without the fear of random and mass shootings.
All three texts share a common theme on mass shootings while using the research, findings, and published works of Professor Adam Lankford. Each of the texts uses the rhetorical aim Inform and Explain due to all three texts being presented in a expository manner. These texts fit the definitions and criteria for Inform and Explain as they are confident which is shown by making the purpose of the paper known early on and the continued stream of confidence throughout all three texts. In Newsweeks article Study: Mass Shootings ‘Exceptionally American Problem’ the title immediately states the purpose of the article followed by referring to Lankfords work almost immediately on how these mass shootings develop in America. This confidence and purpose
We are deeply saddened by the tragic shootings last night in downtown Dallas, the loss of life of so many police officers, and injury to officers and citizens. It is a horrific reminder of the brokenness of our world and its need for prayer and healing.
There is an assumption that if you understand the minds of serial killers, or persons who commit mass shootings, that it may help prevent mass shootings. “Mass shootings are not on the rise, but have held steady over three decades, randomly clustering in time to trick our brains into finding a pattern of increase where none actually exists” (Shermer 3). Mass shootings happen at varying times without rhyme or reason. Some think that a psychological disorder or some genetic defect could be the reason people commit these crimes. Although we cannot prevent mass shootings, we can educate on how mental health issues can be a precursor to such a tragedy, and how better laws can create a safer environment.
Stephan Paddock, sixty-four years old, killed at least 59 people at the Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas making his mass shooting the new lead in deadly mass shootings. In just over a year we have set a for the deadliest shooting in America. Paddock shot multiple assault weapons from the 39 floor at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino for fifteen minutes into a crowd, injuring around 515 people and killing at least 59. The mysterious question everyone 's asking is, “ How did he manage to get a bulk of assault weapons through the lobby, up to the 39 floor?”
As of October 27, 2017, in the United States there has been a total of 273 mass shootings. The most devastating mass shooting was on October 1, 2017 at the Las Vegas Strip when Stephen Paddock shoot down on a crowd of people at a country song concert from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. This shooting left 58 people dead and 515 people injured. Despite the amount of people left dead or injured from the Las Vegas Strip Massacre, majority of the Congress agreed that it is still 'premature' to be discussing legislative solutions for gun control. Unfortunately, America is repeating their same mistake by not passing a stricter gun regulation. It is time for America to change their history by placing stricter gun restriction to protect their citizens.
