The era of mass shootings has unfortunately arrived. In “Vital Signs,” Quade reports that “[e]ach year, we lose approximately 33,000 people in our country as a result of gun violence.” The mass shootings that are occurring have split the population in today’s society and adds another topic for citizens to argue each day. Mass Shootings are a big problem in the United States and as an effect some people have called for stricter gun laws, while others state that this shows the need for guns, and lastly victims have to deal with life after the tragedy. Instead of the good riddance of these arsenals that take the lives of individuals, some citizens respond to these mass shootings by purchasing their own personal guns with the idea that it makes them safer. Gun ownership is a basic right to American citizens, and in turn, these weapons wind up in the hands of a sociopath. Therefore, these sociopaths go on a shooting rampage and innocent lives are slaughtered. The real page turner here is that majority of these arsenals were purchased legally by these killers. According to “Journal of Law, Medicine, & Ethics”, “In nearly all cases (99%), police found and removed firearms when they conducted a search, with an average of seven guns removed per subject.” It seems as if anyone and everyone may purchase a gun as long as you appear “normal”. To begin with, one significant mass shooting that deeply saddens many individuals today was one that occurred in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary
