Michael Joseph Jackson, African-American, male, born 1958 in Gary Indiana, but was raised outside of Chicago. Where Michael was born was primarily black in the 60’s (99%). However, when the Jackson Family moved to Encino California in 1971, they bought what is called Hayvenhurst House. This is where Michael and his entire family would live until Michael moved out in 1988 to Neverland Ranch. The African-American population in Encino, California and Los Olivos, California have never exceeded 1%.
Growing up, 11 people lived under his family’s roof: his two parents: Joseph Walter Jackson and Katherine Jackson; along with his 8 brothers and sisters: Maureen, Sigmund, Toriano, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Steven, and Janet. In 1964, five of the Jackson Brothers began a music group named The Jackson 5, which Motown Records signed in 1968. In total, the Jackson’s made 14 albums. They were one of the first black American musicians to have an African American and a White following. It was after that that, in 1972, that Michael decided that he wanted to go solo. With a rounded face, infamous voice, and those doe eyes; a star is born.
A year later, and 3 solo albums later, puberty for Michael started to diminish the baby fat and revealed a muscular jawline (Spinditty, 2016). Jackson’s Biographer, J. Randy Taraborrelli, goes on to state that puberty was actually quite tragic and very difficult for him (Mc Fadden, 2003)
