The book portrays a sniper’s life as a mixture of terror and mind numbing boredom. Chris Kyle has the most confirmed kills of any U.S. military sniper (more than 150), two silver stars, and at least one confirmed bounty on his head. The book never glorifies what Chris Kyle did for a living, neither is it an explanation. The book instead gives readers a sense of what it is like to be a sniper, which lets us speculate as to whether we would have what it takes to become one.
An author’s main goal is to have the reader intrigued by the text with suspenseful and/or dramatic scenes happening throughout the story. The authors of all three stories (“The Sniper”, “Ambush”, and “The Trip”) all portray this expectation flawlessly. Even though the stories have a great chronological order with amazing characters, they also share similar themes and subjects. The following reasons explain why.
A take a peek out the window and everything is dark, except for the three silhouette from very far heading toward me and I quickly duck down. I walk quietly toward the door and see people pass through the door window like somnambulist looking for brains. I look in my bag and check if I have everything. The sound of the gunshot was so loud it made me jump and attract the attention of more zombies. I ran faster than a cheetah heading
The Sniper, written by Liam O’Flaherty, is a story about a Republican sniper in the Irish civil war in 1922. This story tells of a night spent on a roof looking for the enemy, the Free-Staters. In this short description of the nights events, the sniper kills 3 people; a soldier, an informer, and finally an enemy sniper on the roof across the road from him. In the end this enemy sniper turns out to be the republicans brother. This story shows the the specific characteristics a sniper must have to carry out their duty. A key moment in this text which influenced the sniper is the Civil war itself.

People have asked why I have decided to pursue this career. I have told them many times that it’s is just what I need to do. When Iraq had people executing Americans, I took it personal. As if they were killing a family member, a person I hold dearest. I like to think that I am everyone’s friend, but if you hurt one of them it irritates me. I don’t threaten people I just tell them what’s going to happen at some point in time if they keep doing it. I have been in a few disagreements because of this. I don’t feel like I should share any of that in this paper because it may be a little inappropriate.

American Sniper is a biographical war drama film directed by Clint Eastwood about the life of Chris Kyle. From a young age, Kyle was taught that as a sheepdog, it was his duty and honor to protect the sheep from the wolves—a biblical reference to David’s account of when he defended his flock of sheep against fierce animals in 1 Samuel 17:34-36 (Cummings and Cummings). Upon being deeply moved after seeing the news coverage of the U.S. Embassy bombings in 1998, Kyle left his life as a rodeo cowboy and enlisted in the United States Navy. After breezing through training, Kyle decided to further his quest for self-actualization and become a Navy SEAL sniper. Little did he know that turmoil and strife that would emanate in Iraq. After contemplating on whether or not to kill a mother and her son, Kyle replaced both their lives with a bullet. Unbeknownst to his comrades, these would be the first two confirmed kills of one hundred and sixty. Yet, adjusting back to life stateside was a war in and of itself. Ultimately, however, Kyle has been best remembered for seemingly arising as a present day Davidic symbol by becoming the most successful sniper in U.S. history (IMDB). Yet, through further examination of the lives of both Kyle and David, the methods of war both used, and the approach each took to conducting himself, it is apparent that Kyle failed to live up the claims of a present-day Davidic symbol.
