System Support for a New Baxter Manufacturing
Company Plant in Mexico Situation: In 1978, BMC established by Chairman Walter R. Baxter as a supplier of tackle and die. Furthermore, they extended the company into metal stamping company. Their critical clients are “Honda, General Motors, Ford, general Electric, Whirlpool, Amana, and Maytag” (Brown 699). BMC supplies their supplies into two markets like build a bracket and straight provide it to the ending creation section, another one is produce a cruise covering and supply it to the midway producers, after that the midway producers send it into the finished product section. BMC have 420 employees, 170000 sq foot

Also they had problems including language, cultural, distance, and mind-set (Brown 702). Language: They truly do not understand what the Mexican guys are saying exactly, thus they need to find the people who are good at English language. Cultural: They can gain a different cultural from Mexico so, they ca combine it with the operation or with the system and it can be a good process of the system. Distance: Since they have PC they can contact with the each other with net or telephone and there is no problem. Mind-set: Since the Mexican people are in their country it is going to be difficult to mind-set their minds. The first thing they need to do was the plant as it had been a problem and they let the Mexican guys to do it also hoping it will be good (Brown 702). Additionally, they were ready to help them if they facing problems and they were concerning about that the guys wanted to do the plant by their own ways. They thought there is a huge cultural gap in there but it was not, it will be good if they could combine it and taught them how to do it. Also they found out there are a method to install a Spanish language to the computers and it can translate the Mexican language ("Baxter Manufacturing Company - Term Paper - Alabrie."). Thus, they are now available to continue the work without worry.

Stickley Furniture has a long tradition of manufacturing and selling fine furniture goods. The Consulting Firm has been charged with the responsibility of evaluating and explaining how the company operates and tracks jobs and inventory. Also, the pros and cons of how orders are processed are evaluated. Finally, suggestions are made regarding the way the company should handle forecasting, inventory, work measurement, facility layout, shipping, quality, goals, and recognition. A full change in operations could result in greater customer satisfaction, reduced electricity usage, greater customer satisfaction, faster and less costly delivery of goods sold, less

The blanket statement that no warrant is required to search a person or property where there is a belief that the search would turn up items being searched for is incorrect. The Fourth Amendment does afford exceptions to the amendment, where a warrant is not necessary, but it is quite limited.
1. What is the competitive situation faced by Wilkerson? The critical product in term of market competition is the pumps of Wilkerson Company. The pumps are Wilkersons major product line with a production of about 12,500 units per month. Pumps currently have the lowest gross margin among all products, because competitors had been reducing prices on pumps and Wilkerson adopted its prices in order to remain competitive and to maintain the volume. 2. Given some apparent problems with Wilkersons cost system, should executives abandon overhead assignment to products entirely by adopting a contribution margin approach in which manufacturing overhead is treated as a period expense? Our conclusion is, that they should not adopt
Another huge expense the company had was all the improvements they were making. It would cost the company about $500,000 per year, since they did not use a contract manufacturer. They estimated they lost a total of $200,000 per year. Because of all the costs, Scotts is experiencing difficulties at the Temecula plant. They are considering the possibility of completely outsourcing the spreaders manufacturing and assembly to China to save costs. Scotts Miracle-Gro already has experience in outsourcing. They have already outsourced the most complex components of the spreaders to China. They are considering completely outsourcing the company in hopes that they will profit from the move. In doing so, they would have to shut down the Temecula plant and, by closing the plant, Bob Bawcombe, will lose all the skilled laborers he has trained and his efforts to keep them by hiring temporary workers, will have gone to waste. Another issue to complete outsourcing is there “in-molding labeling” technology. If Scotts decides to outsource, it needs to provide the contract manufacturer with the equipment and the know-how to perform “in-molding labeling”, if not, they must remove the feature from its spreaders. An additional concern with this plan is if they do offer the training and equipment, it is questionable that the manufacturer will be able to use the current mold from Temecula. They would need 10 molds at $40,000 each and each mold lasts approximately five years.
Wriston Manufacturing Corporation (WMC) is faced with a Detroit plant that is no longer viable because of underinvestment, labour issues, and product-process mismatch. This has lead to low sales figures, low return, and high burden rates (as calculated by the company). The issues at the Detroit plant will be reviewed and options will be presented. A recommendation to address the Detroit plant will be be made based on this review.
A Make-or-Buy Decision at Baxter Manufacturing Company Scenario Summary Baxter Manufacturing Company (BMC) is a leader in deep-drawn stampings. It has been in business since 1978 as a privately held company. The process for making these stampings is very involved and complex. BMC developed methods for efficiently producing large volumes of stampings while keeping their quality very high. BMC uses state of the art machines to make the stampings and they make all the tooling necessary for those machines. In the years since their founding, many changes have impacted the industry – especially when it comes to computer networks and software. In the 1980s many of BMC's customers went to Just In Time
This paper aims to support Natalie York, the operations manager at Harnswell Sewing Machine Company (HSMC), in her intent to improve product quality in the company. Currently Atlantic’s existing Ohio linerboard mill produces 780 tons per day of linerboard, which represents a mere 1.8% of the nation’s linerboard capacity. This is far below the 150,000 tons of linerboard that Atlantic purchases every year from its competitors. Consequently, with such a tight market, linerboard could either become unavailable or available at very expensive prices. If Atlantic pursues their acquisition strategy in purchasing the linerboard mills from Royal, this could help greatly in strengthening Atlantic’s linerboard capacity and ensure to retain their box plants profits. With Royal’s current Monticello mill producing kraft paper and linerboard, this would require $140.8 million to convert all of the mill’s kraft capacity to
Bodie Industrial Supply, Inc is a full service distributor of top line, brand name, new and used certified machine tools, maintenance parts and related equipments for the construction, utility and farming markets. The demand for equipment is relatively cyclical, with Bodies having a slight increase in sales to farming markets in the summer. Bodie’s has seen a huge sales growth increase in 2003-2004 of 72% and 29% in 2004-2005. This is mostly due to an increase in net sales and keeping a constant level of costs of goods sold.
Peter Nicholson wishes to convert the factory in the north east to production of the electric taxi. Using data in Appendix C, Table 1, calculate payback period and the average rate of return.
Spokane Industries has contracted Franklin Electronics for an 18 month product development contract. Franklin Electronics is new to using project management methodologies and have not been exposed to earned value management methodologies. Even though Franklin and Spokane have worked together in the past, they have mainly used fixed price contracts with little to no stipulations. For this project Spokane Industries is requiring Franklin Electronics to use formalized project management methodologies, earned value cost schedules, and schedules for reports and meetings. Since Franklin Electronics had had no experience with earned value management, the cost accounting group was trained in the methodology in order to bid for the
One of America’s largest forest products/paper firms with sales of $6.5Billion in 1983 and a net income of $105 million. The case study revolves around Atlantic Corporation’s intention to add linerboard capacity. In order to achieve this goal, they started looking at viable solutions, including purchasing and acquiring mill and box plants instead of through construction and fabrication of new plants and equipment. This included the possible acquisition of Royal Paper’s “crown jewels”, that is, the Monticello mill and the corrugated box plants.
