Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children While reading this book there was a part that made it very interesting a part of the text that really stood out was,”If today is September third, 1940 ,then tomorrow is...also september third?” “Well for a few of the loops twenty-four hours it’s September second, but , yes , It’s the third.” When you first read this you can think automatically that these children are in danger that's why they have one day were they can stay there whole life. Almost there entire life till this moment was the same thing every day.” What’s happening? Did someone die, or what?” “No no no,” he said “well sort of. Some sheep”. At that moment they realized the trailers are coming
In “The Haunting of Hill House”, Jackson uses a third person point of view in order to create an ambiguous feeling during the supernatural experiences which leads to confusion of whether the novel falls under the sub-genre female gothic, or not. Jackson starts the novel with a very powerful quote: “No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream.” (1). That famously known quote is very ambiguous and evokes suspense. The sub-genre female gothic conventions consist of an old haunted house, mystery and suspense, supernatural experiences, women distress during a transition to adulthood or motherhood, repressed emotions, an aspect of feminism, heroic male figure, dark, and horror. The Haunting of Hill House consists of some of the female gothic conventions but lacks others. Viewing the supernatural experiences from a third person point of view allows the reader to have an insight of the situations.
The central idea of this book is a little girl and her struggle in concentration camps the author shows this by “ tomorrow is deportation”( Leitner 3) . This happened on May 28, 1944 where she started her journey in the camps. She explains her feelings and fairs of them too and how she's not ready to leave this place called home because she was living in hungary and she ends up having to move away. Something else that is showing Isabella’s struggle is ”Every since childhood,I remember them with terror in my heart.” (Isabella Leitner 5). In this quote she is talking about the people that heard them like cattle and stuff. This was also the people that would kill them and make them do horrible things. These were the people that didn't make them feel like people. “75 to a car... no toilets... no doctors ... no medication”( Leitner 7) Isabella is talking about how they were moved place to place in these little cattle cars and how horrible the conditions normally where. Imagine being shoved in
The book I’m reading is Night by Elie Wiesel. This book took place back in the Nazi days when Adolf Hitler was the ruler. The Nazi killed and punished the Jews for not obeying the rules or not believing in what Adolf Hitler believed in. Elie Wiesel was a regular young boy who wasn’t going for bad. He lived a normal childhood life until the Nazis started capturing the Jews and killing them. He was a young boy so he didn’t know what was going on at that moment.
Have you ever imagined being stranded in a concentration camp left to suffer, in the book ‘Night’ by Elie Wiesel depicts the harsh life a teenager and his father from the Jewish community goes through during World War II. It illustrates all the sufferings and troubles the teenager, Elie passed through while with his father at their homeland and after being taken by the German soldiers to work in the camps. The once happy loving family of four children is separated by the World war and Elie chooses to remain with his father throughout the cruelties. In the book ‘Night’, Elie Wiesel uses foreshadowing, imagery, and tone to illustrate all of the horrors that he encountered while his time at the concentration camps.
The novel Night by Elie Wiesel, tells the gripping and frank tale of a Jewish boy and his life enduring the Auschwitz concentration camps in 1945. Throughout the novel, Wiesel does not shy away from the horrifying reality that was the holocaust, but instead highlights them and brings them to the surface. However, Wiesel aims for a higher purpose than simply relaying the gruesome details of the holocaust. Wiesel aims to make an impact, to have each and every reader take away something from this book, to ensure that something like the Holocaust never happens again.
First, it needs to be understood that the book gives a riveting historical account of the appalling circumstances that
Tim Burton is a very famous director that has many exceptional works. Some of his greatest include: Beetlejuice, The Nightmare before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie’s Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, (most all of them have Johnny Depp in them). There is a lot of talk going on right now about Tim Burton’s new movie, “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”. Tim Burton is an incredible director with award winning films, so what makes this one any different? Burton’s newest movie is having quite the battle on Twitter. There has been an outrage because of the all-white cast in the movie. Everyone acting in the movie is white, except Samuel L. Jackson. Many people have been tweeting about how wrong Burton was for being so discriminating
Basically this book is about a little boy named “Bruno”. Bruno doesn't understand a lot of things about what his father's duties are as a working man. Little did Bruno know his father is actually Nazi Commandment for Hitler. Now to refresh your memory on Hitler, Adolf Hitler is the leader of and Fuhrer of nazi Germany. Basically he punished jews and had “Concentrations Camps.”
The book I read is "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children" and it was written by Ransom Riggs, it was published in 2011. He was furious, curious, and upset. He decided to go on a journey to get answer about Abe's past. He soon learned that those 'fairytales' were real. He was searching for peculiar children. They're children with special abilities and they were friends with Abe. While Jacob was looking through a house he was captured and brought back through time
Famous political philosopher William Godwin once stated, “No man knows the value of innocence and integrity but he who has lost them” (qtd. in “William Godwin Quotes”). Both To Kill a Mockingbird and Night involve the main characters losing their innocence after being exposed to prejudice and racism, major themes in both books. Elie Wiesel published Night, twelve years after the Holocaust, in 1960. This book, a memoir of the Holocaust, was written from the author’s point of view after their experiences in the horrific time. In Night, Elie, a young boy, loses his innocence after staying in several concentration camps, and being exposed to murder, prejudice, and sadism. Throughout the book, Elie experiences traumatic events, such as
The Haunting of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson, revolutionized the horror genre of books. It started a completely new trend in how horror books were written. Unlike previous books, The Haunting of Hill House uses terror rather than horror to elicit fear and emotion from the reader and utilizes complex relationships between the mysterious events in the house and the very different characters in the novel. At the end of the book, the reader realizes that none of the questions that have been burning through his or her head have been answered. Jackson refuses to shine a light in every corner, answering the questions of her readers. Her original and (at that time) never before seen writing style caused readers to speculate and create theories for their questions, one of which is what in the book haunts Hill House? Because of this, readers from around the world have been theorizing what exactly stalks the halls of Hill House and haunts the characters of the book sin 1959, the year the book was published. There are hundreds of different theories, but in the end they all revolve around two smaller questions: Was Hill House an entity that haunted its residents or was there something that haunted Hill House?

In most works of literature, in all types and aspects of the term, there are always characters who play supporting roles that are essential to the plot although they might not be the main character. These characters support the protagonist throughout their obstacles, their trials and tribulations. Also, they support these characters through their ups and downs and stick with them.Even through conflicts they have with the main character, they figure things out and mend their relationship.
Many books have many different themes, but some have similar themes. This year, my last of high school, I’ve read three different books that are very different but also, very similar in their own ways. The books that I read are named; 1984, Hunger Games, and Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children. Throughout reading these three books, I’ve learned some valuable things that I can apply to my life outside of high school.
My book hunting season was finally over, after many hours of me searching for a book I finally found one, it was called “Diary of a Wimpy kid.” The book was very unique it takes place in a young boys point of view, he is writing in his “Diary” about what is currently happening, and that's why the book(s) are called That. Unfortunately I fell in love with reading after reading this book. It affected my way of life in many ways. I was always a meeting expectation or exceeding expectation student not anything below it. When i got the book I was doing just that, My grades were lowering every single day of the school year. With everyday getting worse, and worse it had a greater impact on my siblings that I. Everything started turning upside down at that moment, from my grades, to my friends.
