After watching the film ‘Mississippi Burning’ by Alan Parker, I decided to investigate racism in America 50 years ago and today. The reason I chose to investigate racism in America 50 years ago and today is because I am extremely interested in what encouraged the offenders of racism 50 years ago and if they are still being encouraged today. In order to find out the answer for this, I have chosen the key questions of, ‘Who were the offenders of racism 50 years ago?’, ‘What were the laws and police contribution to racism 50 years ago?’, and lastly, ‘Are the offenders of racism still being encouraged today?’.

The bomb explosion killed four African American girls (Denise McNair, Addie Mac Collins, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley), who were attending Sunday school classes at the church. The statistics of over 4.5 million people read New York Daily News at least once a week is an evidence of its information being trustworthy and reliable. This article faithfully portrayed the members of Ku Klux Klan as the offenders of racism because of the fact that they bombed an African American church and took away four innocent African American girls’ lives because they are racist. Throughout the film ‘Mississippi Burning’, Alan Parker also continuously emphasized the idea of Ku Klux Klan being the offenders of racism. An example of this is when Agent Ward sits next to Hollis (African American) in a segregated restaurant, Hollis gets up and leaves to avoid any further interaction. Through this, I realized that avoiding interaction with any white American was a necessary act African Americans do to protect themselves, as they know it as a fact that the local police force will do nothing to protect them from the Ku Klux Klan.
