The writing life is the short story book which has seven chapters. It talks about how to become a good writer and how to create a good writing by passing through the perspective and personal experience of Annie Dillard. In the part of how to become a good writer, she tells her personal experience about what is the things that help she to become a good writer. Also, what is the things a writer should have and what is a person a writer should be. In the part of how to create the good writing, she compares the writing with other handicrafts such as painting, photographing, singing, and wood working (Dillard 3-6). In addition, she gives us about the idea of “Line of Words” that is the major part of creating a good writing.

In “For Love and Money”, by Deborah Pruitt and Suzanne LaFont, the authors study the relations between Euro-American women and the Jamaican men they have romances with while on vacation. As opposed to the ‘sex tourists’ of the Dominican Republic, the romance tourists pursue more than just sex, they desire an emotional connection. Often one that continues after their departure from the island. An important similarity between the ‘sex tourists’ of the Dominican Republic, and the ‘romance tourists’ of Jamaica, is the unequal power dynamic inherent in the relationship. The female romance tourists are typically wealthier than the men they patronize.

We also learn about the new SAT and its essay component, which some college completely ignore. Some college and universities are eliminating their requirement for the SAT or ACT in an effort to minimize their importance and stress that surrounds them.

In this writing assignment I will be giving a detailed interpretation on Robert Nozick’s writing, “Love’s Bond”. First I will give an explanation on Nozick’s account of the nature of love. Secondly, I will explain why Robert Nozick believes that in love there is no desire to trade up to another partner. Lastly, I will also explain why he says that it is incoherent to ask what the value of love is to an individual person.

First of all, Jacob Riis is the author of “How the Other Side lives”. He was famous for using photography to document the extremely poor conditions of many poor populations in the early 20th century. Riis was a Danish immigrant, he worked as a police reporter for The New York Tribune, a job that gave him a close and personal relationship with Mulberry Bend, a vestige of Five Points, the most infamous slum in the city. This book reveals the dirt, disease and misery associated with the living in the New York slums.

Many people are unhappy with their jobs because of the system in America, much unlike the American dream people have been taught to know not everything is achievable. In the autobiography of Between the World and Me, Ta-Nehisi Coates explains how the education system shackled him, instead of empowering him to liberate his soul and mind. It wasn’t until he was enrolled in Howard University, where he found comfort in an educational system. Before attending Howard University, Coates was blinded by society’s view of the “black body”, and what it was capable of accomplishing. The limitations and lack of support on their side, bounded African Americans and made them feel insecure. The discrimination African Americans faced in their daily lives was no different in an educational environment.

One of the most, if not the most, controversial and heated debates following the United States independence was regarding the institution of slavery. In the introduction to his book Half Slave and Half Free, Bruce Levine quotes Carl Schurzs’ observation as the “slave question not being a mere occasional quarrel between two sections of the country divided by a geographic line, but a great struggle between two antagonistic systems of social organization (p.15)”. The Nouthern states that allowed slavery benefited from the agricultural labor that those slaves provided. The Northern states that prohibited slavery did so for moral and pragmatic reasons; they felt it was morally wrong to deny another human any form of rights, and did not like the economic advantage it gave to the Southern states. Professor Paul Bloom states he is against empathy. He believes it is wrongfully used in our society and should not be used in certain situations. He still thinks it is important sometimes, but should not be primarily used as a result of anger, depression or retaliation. He believes compassion is the solution to empathy. In the long run, Bloom states that empathy will fail or burnout in a person. Hannah the extremely empathic person will eventually burnout according to Bloom. Finding the Love of Your Life was written by Neil Clark Warren, PH.D., and in this book he explains his ten basic principles of finding the right mate to spend your life with. He teaches people how to understand the two different types of love: passionate love and companionate love. He states that many do not get past the passionate love portion which is why many people go from relationship to relationship when the passion wears off.

Our innate tendencies affect out behavior patterns in the life cycle. From love, sex, and marriage and the change from societies to past and future times. The discoveries of why we have mating traits and how they are used in many meanings such as a smile or the way a person speaks with their body. The forces of culture and environment take part in human involvement in the world. While men and women start to change roles and rights are broaden in a marriage. Along comes divorce in which happens so often in societies because of many reasons. What we have inherited is from out ancestors and it repeats itself in every life cycle. The expedition of the book Anatomy of Love goes through the past to future on love, sex, marriage, and divorce and how it relates to modern societies.
