The quote I found most interesting is "Nothing of importance happened today." I find that quote most interesting out of the 10 other quotes because, something important always happens everyday. It may be so small you do not realize it is important but it is. For instants something important that happened to me one day was riding the bus. I was just having a normal day and suddenly a girl sat next to me. I did not think much of at the moment but it is now a year later and she is one of my best friends. So something may not seem important at the moment but it is.
Those words are a lie, or at least, I do not believe on them. For personal experience and as I read the book "Enrique's Journey," most of the politicians look like they are against to help society with needs. They want the vote, and then they forget they promises. People cannot expect too much from them, so I exhort everyone to protect each other again politicians, police, and government rules.
The first quote I would like to share is, “The church was not only a social hub but also a constant reminder of that dangerous era when the U.S. government wanted Mohegans removed from the hill” (Fawcett, 12). I found this important to our readings because of the interconnection and symbol the church was to the Mohegans’ community. It represented their strength in standing their ground to their traditions and region in which they resided in with the hopes of the U.S. government to leave them alone. This type of establishment taught Gladys Tantaquidgeon to cherish the education she was being provided at home of learning the Mohegan traditions. Gladys showed a promising future to inherit the Mohegan traditions in which three nanus or otherwise
In Night by Elie Wiesel there were many quotes that stuck out to me, or had meaning that aligned with my personal experiences. The first quote I chose came from when Elie and his family and friends were in the cattle care and Mrs. Schachter started yelling about a fire, no one could see the fire and just assumed that she was going mad. “Standing in the middle of the wagon, in the pale light from the windows, she looked like a withered tree in a cornfield. She pointed her arm towards the window, screaming: “Look! Look at it!
Creon believed that he was arête because as he puts it, "...I have the throne, all royal power..." leading a reader to believe that he is arrogant as well as in belief that he is an excellent leader. Arête means excellence of any kind and that "excellence has Creon written all over it. Creon feels as though he was arête, or excellent, because he created laws and decrees in which challenged the gods, or caused hubris, and in turn saw no consequence for his actions until it was too late. Creon challenges the gods by refusing to bury Polynices, calling all of his advisors idiots, and by not listening to the warnings given to him. Creon gives an example of humiliation of advisors when he states, "Stop now- before what you're about to say enrages
First off, I really liked your response due to the fact that I also addressed this question, and I was able to gain a different insight from your discussion board on things I did not include in my response. For instance, the way you explained how first point of view gave strength to the overall idea of history brining pride to many Chicanos not only showed great analysis, but also supported your argument regarding the character’s strong identification with his culture. You use a quote to support your answer and further analyze the quote and speak about the effect cultural heritage and history has on the person Joaquin is.
Min is a potter from the town of Ch'ulp'o that processes many weaknesses. One major weakness of Min is that he is too much of a perfectionist. One One quote that shows Min is a perfectionist is "If ever you learn to make a pot it will not be for me... The potter's trade goes from father to son," on page 95 from the book "A Single Shard". This quote proves that Min will always follow the rules regardless of anything else. A perfectionist is one who always follows the rules and needs everything to be exact. The quote above shows that Min will not teach anyone but his own son to make a pot. Unfortunately for Min, his son died. Another quote that one would say proves Min is a perfectionist is "Min never failed to reject his first attempt."
"We are always in great shape when we role with God in our heart, mind, body, and spirit, because there is nothing to fear, but God; so who are you?" ~ Jon Barnes
Why can't you be successful? Maybe the only reason people are successful is simply because of luck. Benjamin Franklin once stated that diligence is the mother of good luck. While there are factors in our lives that can’t be controlled, ultimately it’s up to the individual to overcome their obstacles. With that being said many of the factors that can not be controlled can expand an individual's success.
Greed is perhaps one of the most destructive forces in this world, it breeds anger, hate, jealousy, and more. The novella “The Pearl” is based on how the finding of a pearl causes greed to be awakened in the hearts of people and cause them to commit evil. During the Novella, Steinbeck develops the theme that greed left unchecked can cause immoral behavior and that is show in the doctor, the attackers, and Kino. All of them are forced by greed to commit sins that they otherwise would not do.
The diction in this quote contributes to the voice of the narrator, a teenage girl named Melinda. The use of the nickname “Basketball Pole” indicates immaturity and makes the voice sound more youthful. The quote uses imagery as well. When Anderson writes “thwap,” she is appealing to the reader’s sense of hearing to create a clearer picture of what is happening in the cafeteria. This quote also shows Melinda’s embarrassment without directly stating it. When Melinda “bolts” from the cafeteria, the reader understands her humiliation without Anderson explicitly stating it. The way this quote portrays the events happening in the cafeteria contribute to the narrator’s teen voice. The words used aren’t too sophisticated, but actually sound like the
The quote I chose was, "Put God first and you will never be last" by anonymous. There could be numerous of meanings to this quote but I chose this it because with god nothing can go wrong. It also creates a message to people to always have faith in the man above because he is the creator of the earth, to some people, and is the one person who dictates what happens and what doesn't. The word of god is disseminate and many people also try to promote his word to other countries and outer civilizations.
This quote caught my eye because it is interesting and makes me think. 4) "Destroying things is much easier than making them." page 211, Chapter 16 - This quote is explaining how it takes a long time to build something, but such a short time to ruin or destroy it. - This quote caught my eye because I realize how true it is.
In A Single Shard, there is a quote at the end of chapter nine that stands out very much amongst the other quotes. The following quote is directly stated in the last paragraph of page 107, “Of all the problems, you may meet on your journey, it will be people who are the greatest danger. But it will also be people to whom you must turn ever if you are in need of aid. Remember this, my friend, and you will travel well.” The following quote has much meaning and plays a big part in the story’s tone and how the readers now think of Crane-man.
This quote is important as it creates imagery, reflects on the main theme of family, and touches on Germany’s history. Firstly, the author is creating imagery with her use of simile. When she writes, “a rotten stench hit her like a fist”, she uses ‘like’ to describe Sarah’s feelings more vividly. She is getting the readers to imagine a really strong smell coming out of the dead body by comparing the strength of the scent to a punc, which is strong. This helps the reader have a sense of Sarah’s position at this point. Furthermore, this quote reflects to the theme, which is the importance of family and how losing a loved one is difficult. After Sarah finds out that her brother is dead, she screamed for all members of her family. She was heart
After browsing the website for the Exchange Everyday, one favorite quote that I like by Henry Miller is “The real leader has no need to lead – he is content to point the way.” I like this quote because to me it means a real leader is someone who is respected among his peers that she/he is able to direct them without forcing them to do anything. My most favorite article this week is “What Infants Understand” because it is interesting to learn infants understand more than what we think as study shown in the article done by researchers.
