My mother was born exactly nineteen years and two months before me. On March 31, 1979 she was brought into this world to my grandparents, Karen Jones and Dwayne Knox. She was raised in the Glenville area of Cleveland. My grandparents were not together so she has live with both of my grandparents at different points in her life. My great-grandmother was more like the mother figure of my mom. She stays off of East 105th street. My mother went through all of her school years in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Glenville High School in 1997. In her tenth grade year of high school she met my father who was a senior at the time. They dated and later married and had three children: my brothers and I. She attended The Ohio State University as well as Cuyahoga Community College. My mother reminds me a lot of myself. She was and still an extremely bright person. She was determined to do her best in school regardless of home issues or what her community was like at the time. She was an honors student in her school. She also was a member of the National Honor Society. She was also a part of Student Council as well as many other extra curricular activities. In middle school she ran track and from what I hear was pretty good. She has several trophies to prove it. …show more content…
Some silly, others serious, and some downright obnoxious but when you put them all together you realize that we are a family like no other. The first story that I will share was told to me by my grandmother( my mom’s mom). When my mother was pregnant with my, my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck and I was losing oxygen and was unable to breathe. My mother’s blood pressure dropped and got cold. In order to save me, My mother had to get and emergency c-section. This is when the doctors cut the abdomen and the uterus of the mother. The baby is then removed. The placenta is removed and then the doctors close the wounds with
Imagine growing up being told to believe your education is worth nothing. Imagine not being able to attend school after the 6th grade. That was the exact situation my mother faced when she was younger. Ana Gonzalez, my mom and also my best friend, has set many great examples for me despite her imperfect history. Even in the tough times, my mother is always there when I need her. I guess I never took the time to realize her value towards me and my family. My mom is a creative person that likes to think outside the box. Not only that, she is also educated and supportive.
My mother was born and raised in Oakfield, WI, a very small town outside of Fond Du Lac. She lived with her mother, father, and older brother. Her mother was a waitress at a supper club nights and weekends and her father worked in a factory during the day. Her relationship with her parents, especially

She kills one child whom is referred to as beloved for what is written on her tomb stone, but fails to kill howard buglar, and Denver. Sethe motherly natural instincts caused her
"The Mother," by Gwendolyn Brooks, is a sorrowful, distressing poem about a mother who has experienced numerous abortions. While reading the poem, you can feel the pain, heartache, distress and grief she is feeling. She is both remorseful and regretful; nevertheless, she explains that she had no other alternative. It is a sentimental and heart wrenching poem where she talks about not being able to experience or do things with the children that she aborted -- things that people who have children often take for granted. Perhaps this poem is a reflection of what many women in society are feeling.
Only in the late 18th and early 19th centuries did ideas of affectionate marriages and loving, sentimental relations with children become dominant in American family life. These attitudes first took hold among the urban, educated wealthy and middle classes, and later spread to rural and poorer Americans. This change was due to the growth and increasing sophistication of the economy, which meant that economic issues became less pressing for families and production moved outside the home to specialized shops and factories.
Mothers around the world have a lot of work on their hands; the task of raising a child is never easy and requires plenty of hardwork as their child is growing up. Authors often describe mothers as a devoted parent and someone who would sacrifice anything for their child, because it’s a stereotype that applies to real life. Readers can relate to the text and understand it, making them want to enjoy the author’s book more. In “Lucinda Matlock” , a poem, and “Everyday Use”, a short story, authors Edgar Lee Masters and Alice Walker create two characters named Lucinda Matlock and Mama. Lucinda Matlock and Mama are two characters from different stories that have similar traits, in that they are dedicated and accepting women. Mama and Lucinda work hard in their lifetimes to provide for themselves in their children, and are dedicated to doing that, and they both accept the way life works and the unfairness that it might throw at a person.
Growing up is phase in which is determined by the parenting aspect, the parent to child bond which varies greatly. Childhood is essential but determined by parenting which influences the child’s later life, everything ties back to each other. Parenting not only can generate but structure a future, a parent’s role in a child life affective, and a child is affected by the absence or presence of a parent. Emmy award winning playwright and poet, Susan Griffin believes that all life is influenced and parenting shadows a child’s future. Feminist author Alison Bechdel noted that the aspect of how close a mother and daughter relationship is could change her life. Childhoods start and end at some point, some faster and some longer but the time in between and after, more so the aspects of relationships, parent to child becomes the shadow of our life.
“Love you, mama, Miss you”(Aviv, 2), the words of three year old Adam to his mother who was placed with the Orange County Social Services. In Rachel Aviv’s article “ Where is your mother” thirty-nine year old, single working parent Niveen Ismail, “begged” them to return her son after she left Adam unsupervised at home whilst she was out. Niveen mentions that on this tragic day that, “It was mechanical-I wasn’t thinking anymore...I was just trying to survive” (Aviv, 6). She was overworked, undernourished and had just reached a “breaking point”. Months have gone by, the Egyptian mother complied to her case plan trying to learn to “Parent American style”, attending parenting classes in high hopes of Adam being returned to her. Despite her attempts, Adam was placed with a foster family, who was willing to adopt him if her parental rights were terminated. A mother who once abandoned her child, is a bad mother.
In a world in which abortion is considered either a woman's right or a sin against God, the poem "The Mother" by Gwendolyn Brooks gives a voice to a mother lamenting her aborted children through three stanzas in which a warning is given to mothers, an admission of guilt is made, and an apology to the dead is given. The poet-speaker, the mother, as part of her memory addresses the children that she "got that [she] did not get" (2). The shift in voice from stanza to stanza allows Brooks to capture the grief associated with an abortion by not condemning her actions, nor excusing them; she merely grieves for what might have been. The narrator's longing and regret over the children she will never have is highlighted by the change in tone
A mother hero is a person who gives everything in the benefit of others, in addition, mother heroes are people who do not care about the sacrifices they have made. First a hero is a person who, instead feeling compassion puts action serving others. For example, a pregnant mother who is diagnosed with a terminal illness and who must have an abortion to live will give life to birth her child whom this shows sacrifice. There are also mothers who will starve in order to feed their children. Another example is a single mother who will work several jobs to provide her children with an excellent education. In addition, she still has time to prepare a meal and read her children a bedtime story. There is another type of mother heroes, those who sacrifice

According to research women who have had an abortion were 37% more likely to experience depression, 110% more likely to abuse alcohol, 155% more likely to commit suicide and 220% more likely to abuse marijuana (Jaslow). Women who go through the experience of terminating a pregnancy often face some form of decline in their mental health. It is understandable after going through something that is so permanent and potentially traumatic to react in such a way that negatively affects a person’s state of mind. Whether the termination is involuntary or by choice, it will likely lead to a change in the mental state of the person involved. In the poem “The Mother” the author, Gwendolyn Brooks, shows what a mother who has

Is Calpurnia a better mother figure than Aunt Alexandra? Calpurnia acts out of concern and supports the kids. Calpurnia acts out of concern in many ways. She knew something was wrong after Jem ruined Mrs. Duboses flowers. Calpurnia also brought the kids to her church while Atticus was away. Calpurnia also taught Scout how to read on rainy days. At age 18, straight out of high school, I conceived my first and T.J's second child. or so I was led to believe at the time. I was excited because at one point, I thought I couldn't have any children, but I was also scared at the same time. I was scared of what my mother would say. I was scared, because my plans were to go to college and I knew this would drastically change my plans. The first person I told about the possibility was T.J. His initial response was asking me if the baby was his. I was crushed, yet and still I answered this ridiculous question with a yes. We waited some time and when I was about 2 weeks late, we brought a pregnancy test and tested at his house. When I came out of the bathroom, I handed
