Mike O’Donnell, a thirty-seven year old Caucasian man, is the character we will be focusing on throughout this paper. He is a father of two kids, Maggie and Alex, and currently going through a failing marriage to his high school sweetheart Scarlet. Mike is also employed in a dead end job where he has no hope of moving up the corporate ladder. Due to his failing marriage and struggles at work, Mike has become very unhappy with how his life has turned out. Miraculously, Mike is given the opportunity to become a teenage again. He is now nearly the same age as his children; which causes certain issues and realizations throughout the movie. Many issues play out throughout the movie due to Mike not initially being able to fit in with the adolescents. Another common issue that is seen throughout the movie is the faulty relationship he currently has with his family. Throughout the movie he slowly begins to repair the relationship with his families. In the end of the movie, Mike realizes how great his life really was. He is able to become his actual age again, and vastly improves his relationship with his family. Many different concepts can be applied to Mike O’Donnell’s life throughout the movie. A major concept Mike O’Donnell displays is self-esteem. According to the notes provided in class, self-esteem is based on how someone sees their self worth as well as how others perceive them. During high school Mike was use to being seen as one of the most popular kids in the school.
Self Concept is based on the perceptions that we make of ourselves. The self-concept is important to the study of communication because it drives our behavior, influencing our communication with others and ultimately defining our attitudes about ourselves as products of our environment or creators of our environment. In the beginning of the film, Michael’s Self Concept about himself is very poor. He realizes that he grew up in an unhealthy environment and that affects the way he communicates. When Michael begins school in the film, he realizes and perceives himself as

Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who has been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how communication, and self-concept, affects the characters, and their interactions.
Through the use of low-key lighting, long-shot and dialogue, Hancock made me recognize the significance of friends and family by revealing to me the positive influence one young teenager can have on a range of people - in this case Michael is having a positive influence on Sean, his football team/coach and Leigh Anne. Not only did Michael influence these characters in a positive way, but they influenced him as well and changed him for the better. I'm concerned about the fact that our society is not improving instead it is becoming much worse with all the stereotyping that is rumoured. Avoid stereotyping others because you are not going to receive anything from it apart from putting others down. A million people did not believe in Michael at the start, but I am certain they changed their view on him
The movie Stand By Me is based upon a novel by Steven King. It doesn’t have the same eerie feel as some of his other books and is generally a more serious movie. It takes place in the small town of Castle Rock, Oregon. It is the middle of the summer in approximately the early 1960’s. The kids are bored and that is the setup for their adventure to go find a dead body in the woods.
The beginning of the movie starts with a footage of football player Mike Webster (played by David Morse), showing his plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as the man speaking in a conference. This all took place in September 2002, Mike is homeless and living in his car, suffering from dementia. Nigerian pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (played by Will Smith) is giving a testimony in court over a murder case. He works at the coroner's office in Allegehney county where he has an odd habit of speaking to the deceased. Webster visits Dr. Bailes over his condition. He appears to be getting worse. Webster is visited at his car by fellow football player Strzelczyk, who is also suffering from a similar condition. Webster complains that he doesn't want to go to sleep, so he is seeing tasing himself to stay awake. He is later found dead and it shocks everyone. His body is brought in for Bennet to examine. Bennet takes a look at Webster's brain and discovers severe head trauma that led to his mental problems. He furthers his research by studying football videos and noticing the amount of times he took serious blows to the head. After this Strzcelczyk is seen ready to attack his wife and children, claiming that the voices in his head are telling him to kill them. His wife screams at him to get out, and he drives away and ends up dying. Bennet examines them as well and concludes that the men suffered from CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). After word of this gets out, it is believed that Bennet is trying to talk badly of the sport and is told to take back what he says. Meanwhile, Dave Duerson is approached by fellow
In the early 1900’s silent films amazed audiences with images, later talkies impressed with sound, today we have 3D. As technology continues to evolve so too will film genres. Genres, while having some shared characteristics, also differ in terms of stylistic devices used. For instance, the dramatic film “The Notebook” effectively uses color to reinforce theme and has plausible performers as the two main protagonists.
The main character Micheal Oher’s, who is introduced to us through his rough life growing up. Micheal never knew his father and his mother was a drug addict. HIs mother gave birth to a total of fifteen children, who of course due to her drug addiction raised themselves basically. Michael spent his teenage years running away from a string of foster homes and situations. Michael got tired of foster care
To begin, Mike becomes dependent on alcohol to mask the realities surrounding his financial crisis. He is introduced to the novel by his fiancé, Lady Brett Ashley, as a “ drunkard” and an “undischarged bankrupt”, immediately allowing the audience to create an image of him as an unstable, dependent character (Hemingway 85). As an individual with the status ‘legally bankrupt’, he is ineligible to obtain credit, he cannot “write checks” and has various restrictions on his financial status (233). Because Mike made careless decisions in his past, he as a result, jeopardized his future. He

Erin Brockovich, a 2000 Jersy Film Production, staring Julia Roberts is based on a true story that involved Pacific Gas and Electric Company using hexavalent chromium or chromium six as a rust inhibitor to prevent corrosion of pistons used in engines. According to the movie, for fourteen years, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company had been dumping water containing chromium six into ponds and covering them over. The ponds were not lined and the chromium based water leaked into the local water supply exposing residents of Hinkley, California to chromium six. The Big Short is a movie that discusses the housing market crash in 2008. As you may know, the banks, the mortgage brokers, and the consumers were all affected by this collapse. Beginners is Mike Mills’ second feature-length film, I would say it is a movie about the importance of the choices we makes to fill life with joy, rather than sadness. The movie focuses on three different stories all interwoven with each other. The person who helps tell each story and our protagonist is Oliver Fields, a 38-year old artist. We are shown his life now, he is alone and working as unfulfilling graphic artist. He lost his mother to cancer; immediately after that, his father tells him he is gay. Oliver struggles with the fact that his childhood was a fraud of sorts by the fact that his father hide who he was so long. Oliver watches and see as his father falls in love with a younger man; and then he watches his father, too, die of cancer. Three months after the death of his father, Oliver meets and slowly falls for a visiting French actress named Anna, forcing Oliver to decide if he’ll once again fall into his parents’ pattern of emotional distance or follow his dad’s new, fun-loving, in-the-moment example. We slowly learn that like Oliver, Anna is struggling with family issues as well. This connects them but also at times makes it hard for them to open up to each other. We follow their story through out the script. The second storyline is that of Oliver’s father Hal, who after spending years married but as a closeted gay man, he comes out at the age of 75, only to be diagnosed with cancer shortly after. Hal’s journey is about learning about his new lifestyle and
A half dozen kids and their parents lined the walls of the small room, all squirming in their plastic chairs, excited that they were going to stars in Pankyland the Movie. Except for me, that is. My knees knocked against each other like I had to go to the bathroom, but not because I bubbled inside. This small room felt like they had the AC set on the polar bear setting. I yearned for a jacket.
The film, The Godfather, was released on March 24, 1972. The time period that the movie was set in was 1945, which was the time period of the Mafia. This film is based around two families fighting throughout the film. One of the main characters, Michael Corleone, changes throughout the movie deciding whether or not he should join in on the family business and take his fathers position (Vito Corleone) as Godfather. As a viewer, I did not enjoy this film due to the darkness and wickedness behind it. Although, many believe it to be one of the greatest movies of all time, in my opinion, the film was not a success.
