Some of them being jealousy, ambition, honor, romance, and humor. There is a lot of romance that goes on in the play, between many of the characters. There is marriages and relationships involved throughout the whole play. There is also a great sense of jealousy between some of the characters. Don John, which is Don Pedro’s brother, is extremely jealous of his brother’s fame and power. His almost evil actions occur because of him being jealous of Don Pedro. In Shakespeare’s time, women’s honor was based upon their virginity and chaste behavior, so when Hero gets accused of cheating on Claudio, it is seen to be very wrong of her. The play Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare consists of many themes which grow out of the game of love'. The two main themes consist of perception and deception. Through the plot complications, character development and dramatic techniques these themes can be explored. In the play deception is shown on both good and evil sides, the game of love between Beatrice and Benedick and the Don John plot to split up Hero and Claudio. Perception is a theme used in most of Shakespeare's plays. Perceptive views by the characters help portray the game of love. Hero is perceived as dead which then Claudio is sorry and feels for her. Beatrice and Benedick's loved is clouded by each other's perceptions and arguments.

In the evaluation of the third act of the play, “Much Ado About Nothing” written by William Shakespeare, it is clear and evident that one quote stands out among all the others to show the most meaning and the most important to the vitality of the third act of the play. In the text, Shakespeare states, “The word is too good to paint out her wickedness. I could say she were worse. Think you of a worse title, and I will fit her to it. Wonder not till further warrant. Go but with me tonight, you shall see her chamber window entered, even the night before her wedding day. If you love her then, tomorrow wed her. But it would better fit your honor to change your mind” (3.2.102-109). When Don John, the play’s infamous villian, decides to trick Claudio into thinking that Hero is disloyal, it demonstrates the overall feeling of sabotage in the third act, all in combination with the lie that Don John has created and released among the other characters to try and inflict sadness on the fiancé of Hero, or Claudio. Overall, the critiacal aspect of this quote to the endurance of the rest of the act is obviously vital to the continuity of
In William Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing, love has played a major rule as theme in this play. Shakespeare discussed different kinds of loving relationships; romantic love, family support and loyal friendship, and he shows how different characters react to love in many different ways. Similarly, deception is a big concept to consider as a theme in this play. Each of the main characters being the victim of deception; Shakespeare in this play shows that deception is not inherently evil, but can also be pure.
Much Ado About Nothing raises many important issues concerning the institution of marriage. Perhaps Shakespeare's purpose in writing this play was to question the existing approach to relationships and marriage. Shakespeare reveals the faults of the process through the characters of Hero and Claudio and also Hero's father, Leonato. Shakespeare also may be suggesting an alternative approach to marriage and relationships through the characters of Beatrice and Benedick.
In Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing, there are the usual characters that show up in most of Shakespeare’s pieces. For instance the characters Hero and Claudio could easily be compared to Romeo and Juliet. Both Hero and Juliet are innocent, quite, and beautiful young women who fall in love instantly without conversing with the other person. Likewise, Claudio and Romeo decide to marry these women within twenty-four hours. Because of these characters’ lack of unique and interesting qualities, I
The worst in others, sometimes brings out the best in people. The differences in the characters sometimes even brings them closer together. William Shakespeare’s characters in Much Ado About Nothing are complete opposites, character foils. Don John and Don Pedro are brothers in Much Ado About Nothing. Don Pedro is advised as the greater brother, the more auspicious one. Don John is contemplated as a knave, the one who is less fortunate. Don Pedro also gets the name as the Prince of Aragon and the winner of the war they had just come back from. Don John is seen as a loser. Not only did he lose in the war he fought against his brother, but he also was not able to live up to being a prince. Don Pedro is considered the hero and a leader while Don John is considered as a villain.
‘Much Ado About Nothing’ is a romantic comedy set in the Elizabethan era. It shows the roles of men and women in a patriarchal society and how each are looked upon. Much Ado About Nothing was written by William Shakespeare just before the beginning of the seventeenth century. During this time, life was dictated in Elizabethan England by rigid protocols of proper etiquette as decided by the Church of England. Such formalities pervaded every facet of the day to day life but was most often seen in the domestic lives of men and women. As was the social standard at the time, marriage was a responsibility of men and women alike to secure affluence and legacy. However, marriage did not end with a stereotypical “happily ever after”. In fact, it was quite the contrary. The obsession with female chastity and the fear of cuckolding created suspicion between the typical Elizabethan couple. William Shakespeare uses Much Ado About Nothing, as a comedy to portray the larger-than-life lives of Elizabethan couples and the roles they played, obsession over purity and fidelity, or the lack of it, gender equality, and the overall importance of honor are seen throughout, supported by commentary and actions from the characters.
Much Ado About Nothing is a striking example of how complex Shakespeare's work can be. Although it deals with many themes, I think the biggest may be it’s narrative on love. From the beginning to the end, we see love effect and guide the plot and conflict forward. We have many different kinds of love being shown and contrasted. It’s evident from the text that the topic of love is the leading and driving theme in this story.
Much Ado about Nothing is a romantic comedy written by William Shakespeare. Deception is a repeated theme throughout the play and it performs an essential role in the matters relating to romance. There are two couples who unwittingly are participants in the matchmaking and the match breaking schemes of others. There is Claudio of Florence and Benedick of Padua who arrive at Leonato’s house in Messina with Don Pedro, after being away in battle. Then, there is Hero, Leonato’s daughter, and heir, as well as her devoted cousin, Beatrice. In Much Ado about Nothing Shakespeare uses language and literary devices to reassure the audience that love will persevere and prevail in the end. He achieves this by juxtaposing Benedick and Beatrice with Claudio and Hero.

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-on-Avon on April 23, 1564. In 1582, when Shakespeare was just 18 years old, he got married to Anne Hathaway, who was eight years older than him. After that, there are no definite records of the next few years of his life. Historians often refer to these years of Shakespeare’s life as the ‘lost years’. William began his career as a playwright in London in 1592. Soon he himself started acting and also became part-owner of a playwright company known as the ‘Lord Chamberlain’s Men’. King James I renamed it as ‘The King’s Men.’ Many of Shakespeare’s plays were performed at the Globe Theatre. Many of his plays were written in the later half of his career. Shakespeare then underwent a series of ups and downs owing to the outbreak of the bubonic plague due to which the theatres had to be shut down. The Globe Theatre caught fire too. However, it was rebuilt again. William retired and settled in Stratford, where he died in 1616.
