My educational goals would not be possible without your generous support. Thank you again for your thoughtful and generous gift
I have a strong academic background with studies in a variety of subjects, such as sciences, the arts, and my B.A. in Intercultural Studies. Over the years I have worked and volunteered with preschoolers, youth groups, the elderly, people of different ethnic backgrounds, and people with disabilities. I've worked hard to get here and with OT, it seems that my skills, experiences, and interests are coming together in a unique way. Going to school and getting the formal education needed to become a licensed therapist is the next step in achieving my goals. I am ready for the challenges of classroom and clinical training, and excited about going in depth with this study. I am eager to work on specialized skills that will help me better understand and assist people. I am looking forward to being part of a recognized profession with specific standards and practices. In the future, I hope to collaborate with clients, other specialists, family and community members, and to promote the profession. I'm enthusiastic about OT not just because I think it's a great career and a good fit for me, but also because it addresses major needs in our society. Everyone deserves the chance to participate in their desired activities and live their desired lifestyles. There is a growing demand for occupational therapy services, and I aspire to help in meeting that
My career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist and specialize in pediatrics. I want to specialize in pediatrics because I have always loved to be around children and be able to help them in whatever they need. Also, pediatrics is important to me because kids are our future and if I can help kids for their future I will be glad to do so. Helping kids become more independent on their activities of daily living makes me happy because I am helping them to become more independent and make them feel like they can accomplish anything. In order to be able to do this I have to get a Master Degree and I plan on getting this degree from Loma Linda University. In five years I see myself working in the Occupational Therapy setting and working with kids. I see myself, making others
This scholarship will help me get a head start in college. It will also help me to reach my career goals in the medical field.
I chose occupational therapy as a career for many reasons. I feel fulfilled when I help others. I want to enjoy my job and not work for money. Moreover, I want to help patients reach their goals because the outcomes make me feel proud. When my brother was little, he had a hard time grasping the pen to write. An Occupational Therapist used to come to our house a few times a week. I would see the therapist try to help my brother write. My mother recently told me that when I was younger, I said, "I want to be just like that therapist."
“What do you want to be when you graduate high school?,” my mother asked me. She has asked me this specific question my entire life but today she wanted an answer. I was seventeen, only a month away until my eighteenth birthday, so it was time for me to make a decision. I told her I did not know and she started to list a bunch of career options I could pursue. She continue to go on and on then, she said Occupational Therapist. My mom described to me what Occupational Therapist did and their job responsibilities. That is when I decided that this is the career for me. I am driven to become an Occupational Therapist because I want to provide for my future family, and to grow spiritually and mentally in the process.
From a young age, I have always wanted to understand other people’s thoughts and feelings. As I have grown older, I have grown even more curious about not only understanding people, but learning how to help them. With this guiding me, my future career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapists work with a wide variety of people to help them overcome obstacles in their lives in order to achieve a better quality of life. I specifically hope to work with young children, adolescents, and teens who suffer from emotional, mental, or cognitive impairments. This is due to growing up in a family who fostered challenged children, having siblings with their own challenges, and having many young friends who could have benefitted

The beginning of my freshman year of high school I realized that unless I got a job right after I turned 16 I wouldn’t be able to pay for college so I needed to start making steps in the right direction now. I started working at McDonald’s my sophomore year of high school four months after I turned 16 and continued to work there until I graduated from Polk Collegiate High School. However, due to my experience volunteering at Forest View Center, my decision to work in occupational therapy has brought me even more joy. Throughout my life, I really enjoyed being around children and older adults. However, through my volunteer experience, I recognized that I would also have to assist those individuals who were middle aged. This seemed challenging, as I had not previously anticipated working with this age group. By majoring in the Human Biology, Health, and Society program in the College of Human Ecology, I am one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming an occupational therapist and fulfilling the college's mission of "Improving lives by exploring and shaping human connections to natural, social, and built environments." Through the College of Human Ecology, I will develop a strong background in human biology so that I can understand the physiological and biochemical aspects of health issues, and apply perspectives from the social sciences to those issues. These skills are pertinent to being a successful occupational therapist because the issues I will encounter are psychological, as well as biological. The Human Biology, Health, and Society major will give me the necessary skills I need to help patients make the imperative adjustments in their daily routines to live life as smoothly as possible.
