A child spends more time with a teacher than with their parents until they complete their schooling. A good teacher should teach pupils being perfect citizens, using varied approaches in a manner children can comprehend and learn; awakening child’s own abilities. Teaching children gives me a world of satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. I realised this, when my son started his schooling 20 years ago. Every parent wants their children to achieve their best potentials and this motivated me to start my career as a teacher. Having immense practical experience of working with children of ages 5-11 years and working with children from divergent ethnic minorities as well as social backgrounds often gave me the opportunity to work within a diverse setting. Having 14+ years of experience in supporting and teaching children in the UK and overseas, has often thrived me upon gaining suitable qualifications that motivated to realise my dream of being a Primary Teacher. I learned that accomplishment comes from believing in oneself with a clear vision and pursuing towards the vision aggressively.
My childhood dream of doing science encouraged me to complete my degree in Bachelor of Sciences in Life Sciences from overseas. I addition, this successfully pursued me to complete Master of Education in Special Educational Needs from University of Exeter, UK with Merit. Education often inspired me to believe that skilled craftsman will always create the best sculptures. During my career
I am a qualified Childcare Practitioner with 12 years’ experience, who would love the opportunity to embark on a career as a Primary Teacher. I am currently employed in a local authority pre-five nursery class within a Primary School. I aspire to become a teacher as I feel it will offer me new challenges and a chance to further develop my love of teaching. I am a dedicated worker and continually strive to provide high standards. I also promote confidence, respect and compassion to ensure all members of the nursery and school are respected.
I have taught students ranging from five years old to nineteen years of age. Hence, being an educator, I have learned that learning is always shifting, therefore I must keep improving with the incessant changes. As a little girl, I have always dreamt of being a teacher and I have carried out that dream. My career journey started as a substitute teacher, a floater between classrooms, an assistant teacher, a teacher, a center supervisor, and an educational supervisor. I presently work as an Educational consultant for Danya International LLC. As an Educational Consultant, I able to review and aid with the learning environment of teachers and educational management in a school
I have a passion for education and believe that teaching children at a primary level is extremely rewarding as it is the initial step in transforming the lives of young people to prepare them for high school, university and careers. I am looking forward to developing my knowledge of the curriculum and expanding my skills in the
I have always known that I wanted to make a difference in society by becoming a teacher, due to my love of children and helping people understand various topics. I have worked with children by babysitting, instructing karate, leading children’s Sunday school, and working at a summer camp. By doing these activities I have established bonds with diverse groups of children, but at the same time, I kept a professional and respectable boundary. I have successfully worked inside a planning department alongside people of all ages and personalities in planning activities and lessons for kids.
Working within early years settings is becoming more demanding year on year as demonstrated by the MP for Education and Childcare (Elizabeth Truss) wanting to “build a stronger, more capable workforce, with more rigorous training and qualifications, led by a growing group of Early Years Teachers” (DoE, Jan 2013)It is increasingly important, therefore, that practitioners and leaders in early years settings acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to meet these increasing demands.
After hearing Kristina’s background of her road to becoming a teacher, I began to ask her questions about her teaching experience. The first question that I asked Kristina was what influenced her decision to become a teacher? Kristina’s response to this question connected greatly to my own influences. She had known that she wanted to teach from about second grade. Kristina nannied and babysat for multiple kids when she was younger. The experience she had with watching kids had an impact on what she wanted to do in her life. Having the opportunity to relate to children
The early years of a child’s life are the most critical when it comes to their development. They are growing and learning at a phenomenal rate. I believe each child has character traits, giftings, and talents that make that child unique. I read a book once called ‘Children are Wet Cement’ that impacted the way I look at children. It said that children are like wet cement – you can mold them and make imprints on them while they are young before they start to ‘harden’. Not that children can’t change, but that they are impressionable, teachable, and filled with wonder when young. We need to take advantage of the time we have with them to instill in them a love for learning and respect for themselves and for others. My goal as a director is assist our staff to teach, guide, and encourage the students we are privileged to teach. My hope is that our students will grow to be confident, successful individuals that reach their fullest potential.
Ever since I was sixteen years old, something about spending time with children drew me to dreaming about a career in the teaching profession in future. Primary teaching, in particular, became a significant interest after spending time working with a local Brownie Pack, which I have always done since I was fifteen years old. In this period, I also trained to become and subsequently developed into a leader. This effectively led me to the realization that I enjoyed working with children as well as teenagers. My time and experience in school only confirmed that teaching is the most viable career choice for me. My subsequent undergraduate in Biology at ETSU only served to further increase my enthusiasm for the teaching profession in addition to preparing me effectively for the immense responsibility of handling a
Teachers play an important role in society. They are responsible for educating children, the leaders of tomorrow. A teacher is recognised as one of the most influential people involved within the development of a child, responsible for the imparting of both social and academic knowledge. As an aspiring teacher it is important to reflect and critique on the professional identity of a teacher. We must understand the standards that are expected of teachers by revising policies such as the Melbourne Declaration (2008), AITSL’s (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership) Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (2015) and the Early Years Learning Framework (2009). We must be capable of drawing on our own understanding from
Working with children can be challenging. It is important to always remember that children look to you as a teacher, for guidance and support, sometimes beyond the classroom. A competent teacher must have a strong set of values, knowledge and skills. Teachers are responsible for acting as advisors to pupils. A competent teacher is always well-prepared to answer any kind of question or ready to adapt his or her teaching method to ensure that every pupil understands the lesson and achieves the lesson aims and objectives. As a teacher you need to keep your knowledge and skills up to date as the curriculum and technology keeps on changing and evolving in order to progress and in turn enhancing your pupils’ learning experience and quality of their
Personally, I have always had a natural ability with children, especially those who are nursery and toddler aged. However, it wasn’t until I started attending GCC that I realized how valuable a formal education can be. I have learned how children develop over the course of their early years, as well as, how to incorporate valuable lessons into the daily activities we do together. I have gained a better understanding of the milestones children will hit and now understand of a child’s development. Now I recognize that they do not always master a skill in a linear fashion and that sometimes they will take one step forward and then two steps back when learning a new skill. When I discovered that Bank Street continues to educate their teachers in child development, my belief that ongoing education is a critical part of a teacher’s development was confirmed. As they say, becoming a teacher ensures you are a life time learner, an individual who will constantly need to focus on staying up to date with children’s development and
The professional role of the class teacher is continually changing. It has long been expected that teachers should effectively accommodate all children regardless of their needs, with strategies and practice differing within and between settings to ensure that all children learn. However, recently more specific and detailed guidance has emerged that focuses on understanding the range of children’s needs (Hanko 2003). Instead of expecting children to ‘come up to standard’ or otherwise be segregated, an emphasis is now on schools to adapt and be flexible in order to accommodate, fully integrate and include every child (Tassoni 2003). Every Child Matters (ECM) details how it is the legal responsibility of the class teacher to ensure its five
Through conversations I have with my relations I can see that they feel very safe and secure while they are at school and I can see that teachers will be able to feel a sense of fulfilment as they observe children develop through the different stages of early life. I understand that as a primary school teacher you have to have a range of knowledge in the different core subjects, from my school and college years I have gained a range of different skills in these key areas such as being imaginative and organised which I believe will help me to become a teacher because from my time on placement I have seen that teachers have to keep on top of marking children’s work and putting the children’s work in ways which they will find interesting. I do have a great interest in English, and this is the subject which I would want to specialise in when I become a teacher. This is because I find that teaching children to read and write would be extremely worthwhile as you can see how the children express their thoughts and imagination through their
Ideally, when I graduate, I would like to enter the credential program at Cal Poly Pomona. As an English Education major, I feel like this is the next logical step for me as I seek to move forward on my path of becoming a teacher. The opportunities that await me in the credential program truly excite me because I have always found my studies of English Education to be very rewarding and purposeful. I have found this to be especially true now because I am currently in the process of conducting observation hours at local high schools in Pomona as part of my English Education curriculum. When I am in the classroom, I immediately feel a sense of joy, purpose, and productivity. Outside of the classroom, I do have experience teaching as a leader for a club on campus; I am a Woman’s Bible Study Leader for Cal Poly Cru and I have found this experience of teaching college students to be the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding experience I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. It can become overwhelming as doubts and deadlines tend to sneak in on me from time to time, but I know that being a teacher is worth every ounce of pressure because of the positive impact that a teacher has the ability to make on a student. There is an incredible statistic that states that “On average a teacher affects 3,000 children over the course of their career” (Bickley). This opportunity stirs my heart like nothing else because when I was in high school, I had an incredible teacher named
As children, we absorb information and learn from experiences that mold us into who we are. Many individuals impact a child’s life, but the most powerful and influential role lies in a devoted teacher, a teacher provides growth to students as a gardener would to a garden of flowers. Each child can bloom into a thriving flower so long as you water their garden with optimism, love, patience, and guidance. Throughout my educational experiences I was lucky enough to have educators who poured their knowledge and optimism into me, and now I would like to reciprocate that back to students who are in the position I was once in. Balancing life and school is hard enough for a student, but a powerful and caring teacher can steer you in the right direction. In this autobiography you will read about my educational background, experiences that influenced my decision to become a teacher, and what I believe the role of a teacher should be in a student’s life.
