A family road trip isn’t a family road trip without a few disasters thrown in to balance out the fun. No, sadly they can’t all be idyllic. But luckily for most of us the rose colored glasses will blur the unpleasant memories in the future. You’ll then look back on the trip and sigh with happiness. Unfortunately, our last trip can’t be blurred with rose colored glasses no matter how thick the lenses. You see, I recently part of the family road trip from Hell. Hell, yes, Hell. I was under the impression that vacations were supposed to be relaxing; this one was anything but.
We were going to Seattle; after three days in Seattle we would drive down to Olympia to visit my aunt and uncle. What could go wrong? We had everything planned. Every

She had a tape player for books on tape and a hand held Yahtzee to trade off between me and my sister. Mom brought coloring stuff, dolls, and cards. She and Dad would take turns driving so neither of them would get too bored.
Dad had tuned up and worked over aspect of our old Honda. The ten year old Civic had certainly seen better days. I didn’t know what Dad had done to the engine, but the car looked nicer. The absence of toddler fingerprints and dog nose prints on the windows was a marked improvement. The usually dusty and muddy exterior was gleaming and the scratches weren’t as obvious. I even helped out by vacuuming the inside real well. The amount of crumbs I found under my sister’s car seat was staggering. The car was permeated with the scent of Armor-All and Windex. It looked real nice.
The night before Mom and Dad painstakingly packed the tiny car. Every possible space was crammed with something. We would sit on the blankets and pillows to save room. Stuff was pushed under the seats and everything was folded with amazing precision. It was all ready for the next morning. We could just get up and go.
I was ecstatic. I hadn’t seen my cousins for almost a year and I had never seen Seattle. It remains the largest city I’ve ever seen. I had been saving my money for months and it was squirreled away next to my socks in my backpack Sleep? Yeah right. My mind was racing. I wasn’t too worried about being sleepy because I would have plenty
I never predicted this beautiful trip ending up as a nightmare in my existence. I drove for approximately 40 minutes and my partner shared the driving for an additional 40 minutes. We were driving my friend mom’s
Road trips with the family weren’t always fun and exciting. Sometimes they could get very irritating. For instance, I remember the time when my family and I went to Indiana for Carter’s Hoop Shoot Regional Final. When we were finally about two hours away from our destination, the transmission on my mom’s GMC Acadia stopped working completely. As a result, we had to pay around 4,000 dollars to get it fixed and had to wait an extra couple days after the Hoop Shoot so it could get fixed. That trip was very stressful and made everything we did harder and a lot more frustrating.
This isn't just another family road trip comedy as I thought it would be. This was a dark and quirky comedy at its best. The script and acting was brilliant, the characters were unusual and the ending was eventful and unpredictable. The grandpa said a lot of things that were probably inappropriate for younger watchers, and he used drugs, but they he ended up dying, which is a positive anti-drug message. Overall a beautiful movie, but parents need to be careful about showing even the edited version for
Driving from Newton Kansas all the way to Orlando Florida isn’t the easiest thing you know. It’s long and doesn’t come with a lot of stops if you’re having to do it with my parents. The trip itself is around a 20 hour drive but when you include stops and everything together it comes around to be a 24 hour drive. This doesn’t sound like fun and you’re very right if you’re thinking this. The trip is for sure worth it though, we were going to “The Magic Kingdom”. The place where kids that kids are super energetic and just want to finally meet Mickey Mouse. This was my first time ever going so of course i was excited and just wanted to be there already.
The first thing we did after we were all settled was walk down to the beach, which was luckily about 15 seconds down the pathway outside our beach house, and played in the sand, walked up and down the beach and looked out for dolphins. After we were done on the beach, we went back to the beach house for a rest, and then watched some TV. Later on that evening, my mom and dad went out to get some food, and Mexican food and some drinks. My mom dished up the food and drinks, and we sat down with a movie. We watched the movie Ted, which was a bit inappropriate, but it was still very funny. When all of us were finished with our food, and the movie was over, my mom pulled out the couch bed for me, my sisters and my parents went to there beds, and then we went to
A few minutes before we landed at the airport, I looked at the screen in front of me and it showed ‘33°C’. It had been a year since I last experienced that kind of heat and I couldn’t bear it last time, so I wondered how I would cope with the heat this time. As the plane began to slow and turn into terminal, I could hear people around me start to get there belongings together so that they could get off the plane first. People returned the magazines to the rack on the back of the chair in front of them and I turned off my iPod and put it back in my bag. When I took my headphones out, I felt like I was back in the real world now as I had been concentrating on listening to music for hours. It seemed like time was going slower and slower
We started the trip off with high spirits, we knew what our purpose was when we arrive and we were excited. From Georgia to Pennsylvania, what we thought would be an 12 hour trip turned into 26. We proceeded to get lost three times, lost our hotel rooms and became homeless, and almost perished on I-40 E. When we finally arrived we discovered that Philadelphia was amongst a heat wave bringing in record highs of 105°F. We were also
All I could possibly remember I threw on a pair of shorts and a plain white T-Shirt we started to head off to Six Flags. The entire trip was about 4 hours long, with all of my annoying siblings.. God I hate them, they annoy the living Christ out of me but my younger brother James, is my favorite.
“Johnny!” my Mom said with a whisper. “Get your stuff it’s time to leave.” Our family road trips always started before the sun came up. The 10-hour drive felt like an eternity. However, from the moment we arrived in Tennessee to the time we left, our trip never fell short of excitement. From bears to being sky high and taking on the rapid water our trip to Tennessee was never forgettable.
walk back to their homes. We stayed there with a man that told us he knew how
The east coast was my most recent and best road trip. my family and I leave at ten pm on August eleven and drove to Fredrickton through the night. We got to Fredericton at 3 in the afternoon. We had to eat food out in the parking lot of the hotel we stayed in. We were supposed to get our rooms at 3 but we got them 3 hours later at 6. I do not recommend the Delta hotel in Fredericton. We slept when we got our rooms because we were all tired.
My dad is the perfect picture of the “American Dad.” He plays football in the yard, has “a talk” with any boy before they are allowed to date me, and considers grilling a fine art; so, when he informed my family that we would be embarking on the “Good Ole American Family Road Trip” I was not even slightly surprised. Me being the travel enthusiast that I am was overjoyed at the idea of travelling to other states and experiencing things that I had not yet seen, but I was also weary at the thought of spending almost two weeks straight in a car with my family.
That night I slept like a baby. I don’t know exactly why. It could have been the food at the party. The mounds and mounds of food my mother forced on me. Anyway we said our goodbyes and left Massachusetts and started our journey towards Washington.
I went back into the shop and ordered the same thing, but to go. I got back in my car and thought about all the hikes my family and I took a while back. My mind wandered to my parents, now working internationally. They only came home for a weekend every other month. It was up to my brothers to watch me this summer, to keep me entertained in Newton while all my friends went down to the Cape and the Islands while I had to suck it up and be here.
After working all year long, sometimes sixty plus hours a week, the mind and body can become very worn down. You have to have a break or your work performance could suffer. The last part of winter or the first part of spring, is when
