Gamer Alert As a young boy, I was always looking to find someone to get me away from my two annoying sisters. I would lock myself away in my room or sneak outside to play basketball without them following me. One day my dad came home from work early with a big old box in his arms. My sisters and I were really interested as to what was in the box. My dad told me to meet him downstairs and for the girls to stay up there with our mom. When I got downstairs there sat my new best friend. My dad had bought me an Xbox. I was the happiest ten-year-old in the whole world even though I had no idea how to play it. I had seen people play it before but I was never asked to play with them. I was a very fast learner as a kid. So of course, right when the opened up the Xbox I was looking at how to set it up to play. My dad had to go get some stuff done upstairs so I was left to set it all up. I had a TV in my basement that wasn't being used so I set my Xbox up to it and plugged everything in. I started downloading things right away and looking at the games that the Xbox came with. I was so excited to start playing. My dad walked downstairs and ran over in shock as he saw that I had everything set up and I was already playing Halo. He asked me “how did you set that up that fast and figure out how to play that game?’ I told him it wasn't that bad and how the game I was playing I had seen people play it before. That night I made my dad promise that my sisters couldn't touch or play my
It was one of the best days of my life and soon one of the saddest days. When I was 5 years old I got one of the best gifts any kid good ask for. I’ve always wanted one and was so glad when I laid eyes on her. Before I go into detail why not just start from the very beginning. One evening, my little brother and I was watching tv with my mama when I heard my mama talking to my dad on the phone saying “what you mean you have a surprise?” When I heard that, I knew that It had to be something really intriguing. Minutes later I could hear the sound of the tires running over rocks and an engine running. It turns out that It was my daddy pulling into the driveway, so I had gotten even more anxious to find out exactly what the surprise was. My mama, brother, and I all waited in the living room, ready to find out exactly what my daddy was surprising us with. He finally walked in but in his hand was a box with holes in the top.
My dad came tapping my door and threw my favorite basketball at me, but I kicked the ball into the corner and never took a second look at it.
In 2011 on a very cold December night, my dad told me something that I will never forget. My siblings and I were all sitting in my fathers very out dated apartment, eating hamburger helper and watching a movie on his small 32 inch t.v.
The parents were fed up with our wild animal like behavior and told us to play downstairs in the basement. We all went down the basement and started to playing tag. Therefore, we had to be careful playing because the basement was not finished at the time and had metal studs where the walls are supposed to go and the concrete floors that are now hardwood. When everybody went upstairs because they were as tired as an olympic runner after a meet my Dad came down to fix a light bulb. He used a ladder to fix it so he could reach and when he was done he went upstairs so I was the only one in the basement. I wanted to be like my Dad so I decided to climb the ladder. I was at the top when my foot slipped off the ladder. Somehow I was able to turn my body around and grab onto a pipe to stop myself from falling. I felt the pipe starting to brake so I decided to swing on to the metal stud next to me because I was sure that was going to hold me. When my
When I was about four years old my dad was still working in the military. Then one late afternoon my dad calls a family meeting in the dining room then BOOM he tells us that he got a new job offer and that we’re moving virginia. I didn't really know what that meant cause I was 4 but my sister was devastated Because she had tons of friends at school and at home and she liked it. So we packed our bags and set out to virginia.
One day I was walking home from school to my house. It was a decent size house that was blue which is my favorite color. When I got inside I saw a note that said " dear, Stephen I went out shopping and I will be back around 9:30 from, mom". I left the note on the counter and went upstairs to play my new game. My new game is Grand Theft Auto five I bought it yesterday at Walmart and it is really fun.
Kutner and Olson also report on interviews with kids. One respondent said that he plays video games because he wants to see something that will hopefully never happen to him—experience it without actually being there (Kutner and Olson, 2008, 116). Some other kids said that they played M-rated games with groups of friends, and further research showed that M-gamers were more likely to play games in social settings or with more friends in the room (Kutner and Olson, 2008, 130). Other research shows that video games are a good tool for bringing people together—especially new kids, shy kids, or mentally disabled kids (Kutner and Olson, 2008, 132-134). This book does a good job of describing the effects of video games on lots of different kinds of kids—from different regions, different races, depressed kids, both genders, and mentally disabled kids (Kutner and Olson, 2008, 134).
I got my first console (a Super Nintendo) while I was in the third grade, and I was instantly hooked. I then got a Play Station 2 the summer after my sixth grade year, and a game that I'd constantly play on it is “Cabela’s Big Game Hunter.” This game is a direct simulation of real life hunting. This relation to the real world had stellar impacts on my hunting skills. Through this game, I was taught to stay quiet, to stay vigilant, and how to properly aim a gun. So, once I began hunting with my older brothers, I had some virtual experience.
One summer morning, had my hot chocolate and took a shower. Then my stepmom said that we were going to the waterpark. I was dancing on the inside untill she said we were leaving at 11:00 but it was 7:42. While I was waiting I was never so bored before then finally it was time to go.
In the fall of my sophomore year of high school, my brother had just made the soccer team so you could find us in the backyard kicking a soccer ball around. We would pass, practice corner kicks, and shoot for hours. Sometimes our sister, who was about five at the time, would join us, which mostly slowed things down. One fall afternoon after school, we were kicking the ball around and my little sister decided she wanted to play. She ran about ten feet in front of my brother for a pass and he waved for her to go further back.
When everyone was ready we were ready to travel to my uncles. Then when we were there my cousins and i played outside and i played with my cousins dog named fozzie. My cousins and i were playing outside and was able to ride my uncles fourwheeler. We had to move inside because it started to rain and my cousins and i played the
Other kids had books or dolls, but I clung to my purple GameBoy Color with its handful of games. This entailed hours of losing at Centipede, wishing I was as talented as my mother at Frogger, and trying my hardest to “catch ‘em all” in Pokémon. When I felt lonely, pressing the power button opened up worlds of characters and storylines. This GameBoy changed my life in ways my seven-year old self could hardly know - it introduced me to video games. Without this exposure to the digital world, I would have never found my true passion for programming.
My mom signed me up for a volleyball camp along with my neighbor and best friend, Ava. Surprisingly, we both had a great time at the camp. It felt like a blindfold had been lifted from my eyes, and I could
Ever since I can remember I have always loved to play video games. My uncle introduced me to this new vice at the tender age of 3 and I can remember what it was like even then. He had an old-school Nintendo 64 and he was the only boy under a roof with 4 other girls. Whenever I would come over he would always teach me how to play the games he had and eventually I even surpassed him, which only fueled my new found love for video games. Back then games were not like they are now, but still there was something life changing going on. I remember the quirky looking controller and being brand new to the feeling of the controller vibrating in my hand and having full control of what was going on in this virtual fantasy land on the TV screen. Almost instantly, I fell in love. Many people will tell you, life is so much simpler as a kid. Fast forward to 4th grade my mom (who before never really thought anything of my video game hobby) started to crack down as I got older, and school got tougher. Like all good moms, she wanted me to focus on school so she would constantly remind me how video games are a bad thing, and how they make you forget about priorities and such. She would tell me this all the way up until high school. However, as I got older and learned more both inside and outside of school, I realized that even though my mom has good points and great intentions, video games are not only a good thing, they are an essential resource to society today.
My favorite video game is “The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker”, a 3rd person action-adventure game that will keep any gamer playing it for hours! Windwaker is a completely open world game, meaning you can go anywhere on the map! It features mostly islands and the open ocean which you can explore on Link’s talking boat named The King of Red Lions. The game was created by Nintendo, and was released in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube, in 2015 they released a remastered version of the game for the Wii U. Windwaker has many reasons why it’s my favorite game, my 3 main reasons for loving this game is because of it’s awesome soundtrack, beautiful graphics, and its intriguing storyline.
