It was around 6am and I got a call from my friend asking me the dumbest question ever, “Are you up?” I got really angry and annoyed at the same time because I hate getting woken up for some stupid reason. But then he called me to tell me that we had a soccer game at 7:30 am. I got out my bed and said, “On my way!” I hung up the phone and ran to the bathroom to take a quick shower, as soon as I got out the bathroom I got into my room to get all of my stuff ready. I put on my socks, my really tight shorts that I don't really enjoy wearing and my jersey with the number 17 on it. I got my stuff and gave my mom a goodbye kiss. I ran as fast as possible and got on the 35th bus to get to the soccer field in Alianza. It wasn't my favorite place to play at since the turf felt like carpet, but anywhere I can play soccer I’m happy. I got there at 7:20, 10 minutes before the game which was enough time to stretch.
My coach was glad to see me as I was to see the team, it was an important game.
It was the quarter finals to go to semis, and we were all excited especially me since it was my second year playing soccer. We all got into the field and put on our gear. We finished putting on our gear and got on the field, there was 10 of us on the team since it was a 5v5 tournament. We were standing waiting for the ref to blow the whistle since the other team barely got on time. As soon as the team finished getting on the field, the ref blew the whistle and the game began. We started the
My alarm went off at 6:30 I clicked snooze and got off the couch and went upstairs to the bed and laid back down. Then I plugged my phone up into my charger and set my alarm for 7:25 and went back to sleep. When it went off again to wake me up and I got up and went straight to my mom to remind her that I'm going out of town for the weekend and she asked me about everything again to make sure everything was okay and reminded me about my orthodontist appointment. So, I ran my shower picked out my outfit for the day and then jumped in the shower, then when I got out my momma was asking me where her phone was. I said it was on the bed, she said no it was not and then I called her phone and walked out to the ironing board. That's when she found it and I asked for my card once again and she gave it to me and said don’t spend all your money now.
Picking up my head followed by my body, I reach over my bed to get my phone. Turning my phone on, I hear my mom scream up to me, “Sofia you need to get into the shower now!” Hopping out of my bed my sister comes racing out of her room storming down the stairs. Not knowing what her problem was nor caring, I grab a towel from the closet, place it onto the rack and get into the shower. After singing like a total freak in the shower, I calmly pick up my phone looking at the time not noticing it was already 7:00 and check my social media for a good ten minutes. Finally realizing I was running late, I quickly blow dry my hair and throw whatever clothes on that I see. I grab my shoes, book bag and sprint directly to the door. I say goodbye to my parents and both my dogs, Torino and Gus, which I never normally do that, but I just did that day for some reason.
I was still drowsing, but I was awake. I got my clothes on and then went to get my phone and I remembered that I did not charge it. I found my phone on the charger and I said in my head “Thank you, dad.” My mom, my sister and I quickly got in the car so we could go to Rockford to get my cousin, Melissa. We stopped at her house and she came with us ready to go to Six Flags.
It was half-way through the second quarter in the semifinals, and the Sun Valley Vikings were up by 14. They were on our own 10-yard line, and they were handing it off to one of their biggest and best players, Jack Krump, up the middle. I was in at safety, and I ran up to tackle him at the five-yard line but he came trucking through I just bounced right off of him like a wall. I heard the crowd cheering, so I could tell he scored a touchdown. They kicked the field goal and it was, good. We then ran into formation to receive the kickoff.
I was a new kid that was on the team this year. I knew a lot of the players on that team, so my family and I talked about me playing there. I was so happy that they said I would be able to! Even know that I was the new kid to this team everyone treated me great, and it was like I already played with them for previous years.
When my coach put me in the game I looked at him and said are you sure you want me to do this coach he said yes get out here and play and have a good time while you’re out there. I ran out to left field and I had that feeling like please don’t hit the ball to me but that didn’t happen the next pitch the ball came straight out to left field and I made this play that I was really proud of myself for it was a huge part of my life to be able to go out there and making plays and not letting my team down and having are team play like a teams it was just a great time.
On one fall morning, my mom and I arrived at the Hulmeville Soccer Tournament. There were so many teams that had great potential to win. My teammates and I Were excited to play theses teams and push our skills to the limit. Our soccer team won all five games that we played. Therefore we made it to the championship angist Hulmeville, one of the best teams in the tournament. The game started and there were no goals scored. Since it was the finals, we went
My freshman year I made the Varsity soccer team. Every practice I had to strive and work harder to be able to keep up with the upperclassmen skill level and talent. I was finally getting to where I wanted with consistent practice. I became a starter and the upperclassmen would pass me the ball more and help me on the field when there were opponents on me. It wasn’t until the middle of the season when everything changed. We were playing against a school who was very skilled and talented. It was in the first half of the game when one of the girls on the opposing team had the ball and was dribbling it down the field. It got past our midfield players and two defenders. I was the last one before it reached our goalie. I ran towards her and with everything I had I kicked the ball.
The coaches were disheartened by the loss. However I was extremely happy with my first point ever. During the ride home my dad was going on and on about how good I did. He was completely oblivious to the fact that I had been in a panic for most of the game. I felt great pride having scored for the first time and receiving so much attention after the game. This is the day I realized I loved soccer and no matter how much pressure I was under the people that really matter would still be proud.
Drove away to Disneyland. Waking up at 5;30 am to get ready is exhausting. So i took a nap in the car. We finally arrived there but there was a problem, we couldn’t find the parking lots. My dad got mad, we were about to leave if we couldn’t find the parking lots. An hour later we were finally able to find the parking lots because of a kind disneyland worker. We paid to get into the parking lots. I changed into shorts because it was hot but who knew it would rain i would have to change in an elevator. Got in a bus to get to the entrance of disneyland.
We were all set up on the field ready for the game, I remember closing my eyes forabout a minute before the game started, that minute felt like 10 years, I froze and thought aboutmyself when I was 3 years old and how I first fell in love with the game and how my ultimatedream was to become pro, I remember the hours of pain and suffering I put myself through tobecome the player I was today, I remembered waking up at 4 a.m. on school mornings to go forruns so that I could run longer in games,I remember skipping parties and hanging with friendsso that I could train, I remembered everything, but one thing truly hit me was how much soccerwas there for me growing up my parents argued a lot and when I was feeling sad and lonely Iwould go train at the fields and it would hell my sorrow. Growing up in a household when yourparents are constantly fighting is difficult, but soccer was my out lit it was my therapist. Duringthe time of their divorce I felt like I had no one but soccer so I decided I need to give back to thegame. Soccer did so much for me, so I wanted to prove to it that it wasn't a waste of time andthat I would make something out of the game. I opened my eyes and didn't feel human anymore Ididn't feel in control of my own body the sport had taken over me for the better. I remembermoments when I was running and it didn't even feel like my feet were touching the floor
We were playing Mountain Valley, a team we lost to earlier in the year by a score of 1-0. My soccer team did not lose very often. We lost once in the regular season in all of my high school career. So my team and I wanted revenge. We wanted this game more than anything. They had 4 foreign exchange players on their team and we knew how good they were. We knew it wouldn't be easy to win but we knew that it was possible. We had no right in winning the game. We got dominated in every aspect of it. They probably outshot us 100-1 or at least thats what it felt like. We ended up tied at 0 after 80 minutes of regulation and 10 minutes of overtime. We ended up gong into penalty kicks. We eventually won the game but it wasn't until the 20th kick that we won. It was one of the best feelings.
It was finally my time to shine. I threw on the sweaty jersey, and it was time for the second half. The balls gets kicked right up in the air right to me. I catch the ball and run straight forward and collide right into a nequa player. For 45 min straight the game it's self was bloody battle. The sun was so hot, our team became desperate for a timeout to get sum water and hydrate ourselves. We were only down 1 try and we needed that last score to take the
The final whistle blew and my face turned so red that people would assume I had gotten sunburnt during the game. I threw my hands over my head and looked up to the sky trying to search for answers in the clouds. It had been about six months since I had played a decent soccer game, but this one was the worst from start to finish. It was one of those games that you wanted to forget forever and be blacked out drunk, so the memory of the night never comes back.
I was a volleyball player all four years of high school, so you can imagine the number of games I’ve participated in between quad matches, tournaments, and regular games. And, you can imagine the number of screams I heard between getting a good kill, winning a championship, or beating your rival. However, there’s one game and one scream I heard that will never forget.
