Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to learn more about myself, and my leadership strengths and weaknesses. Prior to the first day of class, I was not sure what to expect, or what I would personally gain out of the Intermediate Leadership Experience. With that being said, this was an eye opening experience. I completed several module entries that have given me the opportunity to develop a plan to improve over the next 3 to 5 years. The modules covered, included Self-Development through Feedback, Leadership and Followership, Leadership Influence on Subordinate Behavior, The Adaptable Leader, and Effective Negotiations. I imagine that I will be outside of my comfort zone, as I will have to learn new ways to accomplish tasks. My goal over the next 3 to 5 years is to seek information, demonstrate openness, and be supportive of the changes that I will be experiencing.
Core Values are something that all Airmen must believe in. Over the next 3 to 5 years, I hope to continue striving for excellence, both on and off duty. Integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do, means a lot to me. The way that I can get better, is that if I see a problem, I need to take immediate action to fix it, and not just walk past it. I hope to become a better leader by learning from my mistakes, and taking into consideration input and experiences from other team members. Taking time to understand that Airmen at all levels, have valuable input, ideas, and have different team roles, will make me a stronger leader in the future.
The 4-Dimensions of Wellness are something that I hope to improve on over the next 3 to 5 years. The physical dimension is something that I know I can improve on. While I have always received a 90% or better on my fitness evaluation, I need to be physically fit, all year around. I currently let myself get out of shape, and have to work hard to get ready, a couple months before my test. I was in the bathroom getting ready for the first day of the third trimester of 8th grade, I was comfortably singing in my bathroom thinking I was alone. After getting ready I opened up the door and look in the hallway flustered to see my mom filming me singing. I was embarrassed and my cheeks turned bright red as I ran towards the front door to jump into my shoes and catch the bus. I went to school and it was a regular day, I had new classes and one of them was with my favorite teacher, Mrs. Gates. I never thought I would build up the confidence to sing infront of people ever but Mrs. Gates but i started to rethink that when my teacher told the class that at the end of this week on friday we will have auditions for a solo of the choir. I felt this uneasiness in my stomach and thought I was about to embarrass myself by throwing up in front of the whole class. I went the whole day just thinking about that solo.
A bright but cold morning January in 2014, I woke up early, I jumped and smiled because it was my first day of school. First I went to take a shower; I thought, “What I would do in school today, who will be my teachers". Then I walked to the bus stop people looked at me like I'm not from this planet. I sat on a tree trunk waiting for the bus. The bus arrived after 15 minutes, I aboard the bus. The driver was a woman she was wearing a black shirt and brown pants. She told me “ Do you have the paper that shows that you have permission to go to school in a school bus” I stared at her and said “ No English”. Fahima woke up before her alarm went off. Today was a big day. It was her first day as a second grader at her new school, East Pennsboro Elementary. She got out of bed, brushed her teeth, got dressed, and put on her headscarf.
I stood there firmly and unchanging. My blouse became a sponge as I begged and pleaded not to go inside. "Quiet down Christine! We're in public!,” said my mom. As two women reached for my arms, I grabbed a nearby pole and latched onto the ground. With no success, my concrete feet were being forced beyond the doors and there was nothing I could do. My spirit was drowned out by the roaring inside as the weight of defeat fell heavy on my shoulders. It was my first day of school in a new suburban community and district known as Alief.
On the first day of school I woke up at 6:00 in the morning. Once I woke up I was so excited to go back to school, see all of my friends, and learn. After I woke up I got dressed into my white lace shirt, my jean capris, and my blue converse. After I got changed I put my Apple Watch on my left wrist. After I put on my Apple Watch on I went upstairs and did my hair into a ponytail. Then I ate breakfast. For breakfast I had a bacon, egg, and cheese omelette with toast, milk, and grapes. After breakfast I made my lunch which included a bagel with cream cheese and salami, some strawberries, a juice box, a water, and a bag of blueberry muffins. After I made my lunch I went back downstairs and brushed my teeth for two minutes. After that I went in my room made my bed and then got my backpack together. After I got my backpack on I said bye to my family and went outside and waited for the bus. Once I got on the bus I sat in the front seat and went on my phone. Then I got off of the bus and made my way to the old gym. Once I got into the old gym I found my friends and we talked until the bell rang. Once the bell rang I walked to my locker and got all of my stuff for my first five classes. Then I went to my homeroom with Mrs.Strussione. With Mrs.Strussione, we talked about school rules and how we are all expected to follow them. We talked about the dress code and inappropriate clothing. In the words of Harry Wong, “The first day of class is the most important day of the school year”. Since this day is so important I will have had to prepare a few things before the day actually starts. I will have assigned seats in my classroom before the day starts, and I will have written my bell work activity for the class before they arrive. Finally, I will have all the materials I need for that day within reach, so I am prepared for transitions.
The first day of school finally started after few months of living in the US and here I was walking to the bus stop with my mom and aunt on an unfamiliar road. Every house I passed was the same as the one my family lives in just different color. Leaves were falling, and the sun was shining.
My time at Life School was very eventful, and I will remember them for the rest of my life. My first day at life school was very eventful though i made a name for myself. I started at Life School Lancaster in the third grade, and i came about a month after school started because i transferred from a different school. I got into trouble and they gave me a tally which is just something to show you did something they didn't like. At first i thought i was getting kicked out, but through time i learned it wasn't. In elementary school I wasn't the best kid and i had a couple of friends at the time, some of which i still am friends with now. At the end of my elementary school I became a bit of antisocial due to bullying.
I held my breath as I scanned the syllabus on the first day of class. Then I heard my professor say “And in week thirteen you will present your research findings in your discussion sections”. Hearing this sent me into an automatic panic. Having to speak in class felt impossible to me. My flight or fight response was activated any time I anticipated the threat of speaking in class. I was sure to drop the class at any indication that I would have to talk, either by being called on or having to give a presentation. Sometimes I convinced myself things would be different and I would be able to handle it. It never worked, the results were the same; I didn’t go to class. All of my grades were based on papers and exams. So I would submit my papers and take the tests but not go to class. My half assed approach to participating in college was to take classes as if they were an independent study. I felt immediate relief when I choose avoidance until the guilt set in from getting poor grades, wasting money and lying to everyone. The vicious cycle only fueled my anxiety, my avoidance and my academic problems.
When I went in to pick my classes for my first semester at college I was super excited. Then they told me there was a mandatory class that all incoming first time in college students had to take. I rolled my eyes and sighed as they described the class to me. I would have to participate in school events, and had to go to the support center, and do things that I thought were going to be the big waste of my time. On the first day of class, we learned about the different topics that we were going to cover, and also about the assignments that we had to do throughout the semester. Even though I wasn’t too thrilled about the G.P.S assignment, I was even more scared about the final essay. I thought I wasn’t going to learn anything, and that I was going to have to struggle to write this final essay. Now that we are wrapping up the semester I can honestly say that my college education has benefited from taking this class. I have learned so much more than I thought I was going to learn. The things that I took the most out of were the financial literacy, time management, and lastly the professor.
It’s the first day of school for me and my first class of 1st graders. In walks a little girl, she is wearing a beautiful blue head scarf. Her name is Berra. While talking to her parents before her first day of school, I know she is from Istanbul, Turkey. She moved to the United States when her father received a job as an architect. It was important for me to know this will be her first year in school. Children in Turkey begin to receive a free education when they 6 years old. This differs from the U.S. because children can begin school at age 5. The Turkish tradition and culture is one with great influence from the surrounding countries. It is located in Western Asia between Europe. Istanbul is located between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey with a square footage of 2,063 miles. The city holds the country’s economic, cultural and historical heart. Not every woman or girl wears a head scarf but it is up to them and their religion whether they choose to wear it or not. It is important for me to know the most I can about my students culture and her way of life so I can help set straight any common misconception my young students may have. I also want to give every one of my students the best education possible. I can only teach my children if I know who they are. I need to know what is important to each of my students and what interests them. This means doing my research on where my student is from and discovering

Since September, my AP Language experience has drastically changed paths many times. This class has challenged me mentally, yet is not the hardest and most challenging thing I have ever done. I came into the year, and the class, with a relatively open-mind, but majorly underestimated my writing abilities. Since that ill-fated September day, the first day of school, I have gained an exceptional amount of confidence when it comes to my writing abilities. Needless to say, I definitely feel challenged this year, which was much overdue. It was an adjustment from just being able to whip up an essay up from nothing, to having to critically think about what I was writing. This year, has definitely pushed me as a writer, and I feel as though I have gained a vast repertoire of writing strategies. Overall, I would rank the class at a medium level of difficulty, as I do not find it easy, but it is also not impossible. In terms of overall experiences, I am beyond satisfied with my growth and the time that is devoted to developing our skills. I was elated beyond belief when I started the year out at a 6/9, because I had doubted my abilities and did not think that was remotely achievable. Additionally, the amount of time and practice that we do to develop and maintain new skills is phenomenal, because it allows me to use all the new techniques in my everyday writing.
On the first day of class when I first stepped foot into the classroom, I thought this class was going to be like every other class where we listen to the teacher preach and write down notes. That was not the case, the class turned out to be a wonderful experience. I have learned so much about myself and about the people around me. This was possible by attending the different seminars, participating in class discussions, sharing about my experiences, and learning about others cultures.
