A story when I had to help someone one would have to be my friend when he needed help back in high school I had friend who was in the same classes as I was he was going through a huge struggle in his life. His name will not be mention but he was a great kid who had great potential in school but he would live up to that potential since he was the youngest of his brothers he basically gave an idea of what his future had in store for him. He would always come late to class almost every single day and once he finally showed up to class late the teacher would ask him why he is always so late he just sits down at his desk and just lifts his shoulders up as his response this is basically is on par when the parents ran into some disastrous encounter on there way to visit her son at the asylum just like when he started to arrive late to class which was a huge effect on both of them. After a couple of more late appearances by him the teacher had enough she tries to help him just like the parents in the story when they go an visit their son with a gift to see how he is doing the teacher tried to help him up with some advice that was given to him to make him stop showing up late. There was a change that made me think in a different way since I had thought that he did not care about anything which bothered me since I believe that education was important but then an event happen that made me change my view and that I knew I had to help him to lift him from below the bar to above it. We
My brother was one of those at risks teens who dropped out of high school only to bounce around between jobs and crime until he saw a way out and joined the military. He became an Army combat medic and served 3 tours in Iraq before having to return home for spinal surgery where they replaced 4 vertebrae from multiple IED explosions. I took time off that summer to visit him and help him while he was on bed rest. Over the course of him recovering we discussed our lives and where we came from and what we were going to. I was there to help my brother but he did more for me in those conversations than anyone had in my life. I fell in love with his medical stories and would sit wide eyed listening to each experience. He eventually grew tired of me asking him questions and told me I should look into the medical as I was infatuated with his experiences. It was in that moment I recalled that summer conversation with the outreach worker and discussed my concerns with my brother. He looked me in the eyes just as the outreach worker did before and told me he was a high school dropout who had trouble with the law and turned his life around to find his passion. It didn’t matter he did poorly in high school or came from an impoverished neighborhood or had low expectations of success, he had control on the outcome of his life and chased down the life he wanted overcoming what was this predisposed outlook on life we were
I Heard footsteps coming while I was working at the dishwasher and it was my dad he said “ I talked to your teacher today and I agree with her to keep you in the A.P. Literature class” I then held my head in disappointment but realized that it was only right for my dad to keep me in there. Because I tried to leave her class but, my memorable experience is about the time my dad and my teacher Ms. Madera tried to stop me from giving up on myself. there hasn’t been a time where I Deondre Williams have given up on myself even when I was down to the last straw about to fail because failure haunts me as if it was a ghost haunting your soul. I really appreciate and love my dad and Ms. Madera because I knew that there is people here for me but I never
At the end of a busy day, my father calls and says that my mother is very sick. She had been in the hospital for intravenous fluids. I could tell by his tone of voice that something was gravely wrong. I rushed to the hospital to find my mother barely able to breathe. Her nurse was racing to control her breathing while giving her a diuretic. My mother is a very small person and the nurse had ascertained the fact that she was given too much fluid. She was in fluid overload. Her nurse had just saved my mother’s life. All the while, he was able to comfort my father and reassure me. He
Tabitha Young was not just a teacher; she was also one of my friends. Now everyone knows that teachers in North Carolina do not make that high of a salary. This did not matter to her; she would give anyone her last dollar if they needed it for any reason. None of us truly understood how much this teacher cared about her students until one day. The day started out as any normal day. All of the students were just sitting there chatting away with each other. Then as our teacher walked in the door, we all noticed that something was wrong. She did not have her usual angelic look about her. This look was of sadness. One individual asked her what was wrong. She then proceeded to tell us what was wrong. A student she had been working with had dropped out of school. She then started crying like no one else I have ever seen cry before. She cried from the heart. We all knew that she was hurting. One of my fellow classmates got up and gave her a hug. All of
I was in my English class, I was already finished with the days assignment . I checked the clock I noticed we still had over forty five mintues left in the class. So I pulled out my trusty notebook and set to work writing down a story that had been bouncing around in my head for the last couple of days. I put in my headphones and went into my writing zone. I was over half way done when the teacher noticed me, walking over to me, she asked what I was doing, when I told her I was working on a story she asked if she could read it, At this point my heart was pounding and my hands were shaking, but I trusted this teacher more than I trusted my best friend. Nodding I wordlessly hand my story over, she took it from my hands and went to her desk to read it. I was terrified the whole time she had it. What had I done? I was letting someone into my world, letting her read my deepest thoughts. It felt like hours but in reality was just only ten mintues, she called me to her desk, on shaky legs I walked the five feet from my chair to her desk, She told me that my story was one of the best she had read in her eight years as a teacher. My heart felt like it was going to explode. This woman was telling me out of the hundreds of kids she had, my simple little story was one of the best she had ever read? I thanked her, taking my story I headed back to my desk, all I could do was smile. I looked up to this woman and
Our class had been studying hard for our midterm test, but there was one boy a year older than me who was going above and beyond for this test. Every day for two weeks we’d all walk out of class when the bell rang, but he’d stay with our teacher and continue to work on physics. When the results came for our midterm he had gotten a grade in the low 70’s. I expected him to be frustrated, but what surprised me was his attitude towards the situation. Instead of being upset about how his fervent studying had still resulted in a sub-par grade, he decided that he would continue to work hard in this class. He continued staying after class for extra work with my teacher and about a week or so later we took another test that was about 25 questions. He finished that test in maybe 3 minutes and got his test grade of 100% back to him before anyone else had even finished. In that moment I truly did come to the realization that it if you put every fiber of your being into something, whether it’s sports, school or something else, you will have success. All the clichés about hard work paying off and, if at first you don’t succeed try again, used to go straight through my head, but this average kid in my physics class; of all places, proved to me that if you want something bad enough you can
When I walked into TA class crying like crazy, my teacher got really worried. She realized that the fight between my friend and I got out of hand, and it was starting to hurt me. So, she called the two of us together to fix it.
There was this one kid that needed help in a certain problem. The boy was a kid that would say the most inappropriate things at the wrong moment, but other then that he got along with the students. This student was stuck in a problem and seeing that he couldn’t understand and called me for help. I walked up to him and looked at the problem that he was stuck on. It was a problem that we have gone over several times. Of course I was annoyed that he didn’t understand but nonetheless I remained patient and continued to explain it to him, using different methods I can think of. It wasn't until a few more minutes in that I got the boy to understand it, using pizza. It was the way that the boy’s eyes lit up with understanding that made me feel proud of both myself and for
I was in Mr. Medica’s class, and everyone wants to be in his class. Some say that he is the best teacher in the whole school. Even better, all of my friends were in my class. As the school year went on, it got even better. I had straight A’s in every class, and got honor roll three quarters in a row! On the last day of school, Mr. Medica announced to the class the names of the best students in the class. And guess who was number one on the list, me. All my friends and I were the best students in the class and we were all overjoyed. When we got to high school we were actually pretty nervous. “ This is going to be the best year ever”, yelled Jeff.Sadly, the beginning of the year was anything but great.By the end of the first quarter, I had all C’s and D’s in all of my classes. Every day my teacher would yell at me, “ you’re not in Kansas anymore, you are in my classroom. And by the end of this year, you’re going to wish that you never made it to high school.” I really needed to get my grades up. So, from that day forward, I tried as hard as I could to get the best grades I could possibly get. And by the end of the year, I got my grades up to all A’s in every class. Years later, when all my friends and I were finally going to college, we were ready. We got good grades, made more friends, and went to plenty of cool parties. Everything was going great, until one day. We were starting class for the day and the professor
From this experience I learned what it meant to be an adult and how small acts of kindness can change someone’s perceptive on a once bleak situation. I can provide hope to people in dark situations and struggles by just being there for them to talk to or make them smile. I may not be able to make their problems disappear but I can do my best to help them through it. Doing this can make it worthwhile for that person because they know that they aren’t doing it
The worst thing that ever happened to me, turned into the best. When I was in the first grade I thought everything was fine. I had two friends, I loved my teacher and I thought all was well. What I didn’t realize was that I was falling behind in reading. At a parent-teacher conference, Mrs. Keys told my mom that I was dropping behind and that she reasoned it was a suitable idea if I was held back. My mom was devastated, she didn’t want her little girl to be having problems in school, but she also understood what it would mean if I was kept back. She tried every at home reading booster kit she could acquire to help me increase my reading level. Mrs. Keys could see the improvement but knew that I wasn’t quite at the level that I needed to be at to move on to
Every day at school, students would treated him differently because he could not stand. This child wanted to stand up so badly because sitting down meant everyone literally and figuratively looking down on him, and to stand up would mean that he was healthy, something he has never been able to feel. I don’t remember what I said back to him, but I do remember crying, and I could hear that he was crying too. He still had the voice to call me a “b****”. I laughed under my tears and explained,”I’m just not as tough as
I remember the first remember the first time I met him. It started when I got to my new school I made a few friends, but still didn’t know him. Then there was one day when I was in after care. My brother was there and he said he was playing tag with someone so I decided to play as well. Then I met him His name was also Andrew, and he was in the grade under me. When I first saw him he was so energetic it was insane he was so full of energy. He seemed like a very nice person, but then we started playing teen titans go. So he took it too far and punched everyone in the stomach while screaming booyah. So I thought that it wasn’t going to work out. The next day we played with him again, and he was also rough. Then we eventually became really close friends over the long school year. It was really fun, but then since the elementary school only went up to fourth grade I went to the next school. So I had to survive fifth grade without him.
The first memorable friendship I had was with my older brother George. At that time, I remember always feeling close with him, as if the two of us were the same person. Nowadays, I can say that my brother and I continue to have that strong bond that we had as children, however, it has become even stronger. It indeed showed me that the friendship with my brother could last forever, which is one way this has affected me. This memory will help me as a teacher because it reminds me that if I have a strong connection with my students, then I will more than likely impact their lives by showing them that I am not just a teacher, but also a friend.
Kasia was and still is my best friend growing up. We had gone on several vacations together with each other’s families. Then there was one vacation that I went with her on right before our senior year of high school. Her family has a passion for flying, they have three planes now and Kasia had planned on becoming a commercial pilot. Because of their passion for flying they go to Oshkosh, Wisconsin every summer for the EAA AirVenture, which is a big flight convention outdoors. I went with them one year and I started to notice some things with Kasia. I noticed that she was constantly going to the bathroom and with every glass of water I had she would have had three. I pointed this out to her and told her that she should go see a doctor. I did not know what was wrong with her I just knew there was something wrong with her.
