I began my journey as an undergraduate student at Arizona State University in August 2013. As any normal college freshman, I had the unrealistic expectation that the future career choice, I would choose to dedicate a majority of my life perfecting, would come without much hardship. At the age of 19, I did not have a good understanding of how much strength, discipline, and dedication it would take to not only choose the proper degree that I would benefit from once graduation came around, but how each year of growth would soon lead me to discover more things that I would want to pursue, career wise. I believe that most freshman, including myself, had the idea that our journey throughout the four years we are given at Arizona State University would guide us directly to the career that our future would encompass, to only learn that in order to properly benefit from all that this campus has to offer you have to discover more about yourself. After multiple changes in career choice, and three and a half years of rediscovering who I am as an individual, I can say that I am one step closer to finding the career that I have been searching for. A Master’s degree in Public Administration, with a concentration in Emergency Management and a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management would bring me one step closer to a career path that allows for me to demonstrate leadership, competency, and the ability to put my effort towards the endless possibilities that my future beholds.

As I began studying here at Seattle University, I was aware of my career goals, yet I did not know the academic path that would lead me to them. My career goals were not focused towards a specific discipline, as all I intended to pursue was a career that would contribute to the improvement of my native Hawaiian community. As the school year progressed, I joined student organizations such as hall council and gained leadership positions. In hall council, we were responsible for addressing the needs and desires of our fellow student residents in order to unify our dorm hall community. This experience allowed me to realize that I enjoy fulfilling the needs of others and contributing to the community. Being a part of hall council also reminded me
My personal experience as an undergraduate has shaped and shifted my career path and interests as it does for some traditional undergraduates, but for me it was not particular class or passionate professor that inspired my new found interest, but rather, my experience outside the classroom. My interaction with the staff at Arizona State University and my involvement as a student leader has had a profound influence on my college experience and has driven me to pursue a career in higher education.
My name is Elana Sanguigni, and I am a sophomore student at Pine-Richland Senior High School in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. My interest in the Health Career Academy is immense, and I exhibit a profound interest in a future career in the health industry. The Health Career Academy, would provide enlightening educating opportunities to gain valuable knowledge, pertaining to various health careers. Though I have conducted some research and analyzed various health career fields, I truly aspire to explore and learn more in order to academically prepare for a future in the health industry. My academic love for Biology, Chemistry and all science courses, in addition to my love and care for people have led me to inquire a path of future health careers to utilize my desire to help people.
Choosing the right career in life can open a life of happiness and joy. In life, “if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll be lost when you get there.” A good college career can make the difference between living to work and going to work for a living (Binder). In order to obtain the tools needed to work at your dream job, someone must teach them at a higher educational level. Education emphasizes freedom and experimentation as tools for students to develop meaningful ways of working after graduation (Roth). It is only through an education that you can find the tools to express and master the craft of your career and

My path to becoming a successful higher education administrator started similar to most individuals working in student services but took a dramatic turn which could have led me away from higher education forever. While working towards my undergraduate degree, I worked for residence services, a role that often leads to a career in higher education and created a natural path for me to explore. When it came time for me to decide on a master’s degree I viewed a degree in higher education as a given fallback option, the safe route should I not be able to figure out what I truly wanted. While I knew I enjoyed working with students, I did not fully understand why and knew this degree would grant me the time to figure out what I did want. I struggled to decide on a program so I applied to a higher education program and was not admitted. My “safe” route was gone and I was surprised because I felt as though I fit what a higher education profession was since I had the background and knew what others in higher education did. At the time what I did not realize is I did not have a passion for working with students and I have learned a passion for working with students is essential to making you a successful professional in higher education.
In 2012, a 14-year old girl was shot in the head on a bus ride home from school in Pakistan. She was targeted by the Taliban because she believed in the rights of education for women and was not afraid to take a stand against this oppressive regime. Malala Yousafzai at 17-years old is a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Since then, Malala has opened schools in Lebanon, has a charity called The Malala Fund, and continues to speak to world leaders to fund the right for education. Malala is a pioneer for educational rights, just as I hope to be a pioneer for chemical engineering.

Many people found out that their dream careers turned out not so fitting for them. For example students who never like to read books, try to become researchers is taking large part of the problem. Functioning as a part of the community isn’t just as simple as doing things alone; people have to be able to fulfill their part of the job. In fact, this is where people figure out the difference between their dreams and realities. Many high school students think that their dream can be easily archieve through any kind of higher education, they are dooming themselves. According to Brad Plumer, there are only twenty-seven percent of college grads have jobs related to their majors. Therefore, it shows that many students pursue their careers without having a firm ability to work in the fields. Because four years is not a short period of time, people will be wasting not only their money but their time; a miss is as good as a mile.
Most high school freshmen are often asked bout their future dreams and goals and many have it all planned out, others are just waiting for it to seek them. If I was asked as a freshman “where do you see yourself in six years?” I probably would have never guessed that it would a thousand miles away from home. As I grew older and matured I started to view life from a different perspective and I knew where I was headed and where I needed to relocate to in order to achieve my goals. I began observing those around me in my family’s business and craved more. My major is Business administration with emphasis on Management. When it boiled down to it, I knew where I wanted to go, the state I wanted relocate to and the university I intended to transfer
Currently, I am a senior at the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology studying the field of Graphic Designing. Throughout the entirety of high school, I have tried my hardest to succeed and do the best that I can do. Through my experiences at the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology, I have learned a lot about the future, our society, and myself; I have decided to not become a Graphic Designer and actually go to towards the direction of the human body, as I have always been curious. I plan on going to the University of Nevada, Reno and graduate with pre-medicine, then to go to graduate school and specify to become a surgeon. Also, throughout high school, I have been able to be an active community member and I have had the opportunity to
I completed my associate degree last year, and as I am getting closer to completing my bachelor’s degree, as I look ahead I can see that light at the end of the tunnel. This journey has been very long, and at times I have felt frustrated and afraid, but I have learned to conquer my fears. Completing college is essential if I want to be successful and competitive in today’s world. Years ago I never thought this day would ever come. My current goal is to complete my B.S. degree in Community and Human Services with a concentration in Human Services. I am currently volunteering at an organization that helps to keep families from becoming homeless. Everything I have learned so far here at Empire State College has been tremendously helpful.
From the time I was five, I have studied a large range of music including piano, clarinet, viola, cello, and voice. Generations of the Seaver family have always been first chair in the orchestra or the strongest vocal in the chamber choir. From an early age, my mother pressed my three siblings and I to surround ourselves with music but I struggled to get along with every instrument she put in my hands. My clarinet always squawked and when I pressed my bow to my viola, it sounded more like it was screaming than singing.
I have chosen a career as a paralegal. This is a field that I expect will be both challenging as well as professionally rewarding. As a paralegal, I will assist attorneys in the delivery of legal services (National Association of Legal Assistants, 2008). A career in paralegal studies is a prestigious, professional adventure and offers a wonderful opportunity while enhancing ones knowledge of the law and provides for challenges, growth and advancement.
