The first time I went to states was in 9 years old in 2013 I went two and two and out, but was the greatest day of my life it was awesome. First it’s the day of the weigh-ins and i 'm going for 55 pounds and it is you do and wrestle or you don 't and you go home. I have been cutting weight to make it all week and me and my dad are in line, first the check you in and you get a ticket then you go. Soon before I know it i 'm up and it is cold and i’m in shorts and i 'm freezing and of course so hungry but then I step on the scale and I make it 53.2. After I get into something warmer, thank goodness and we go and they give your stuff to get in tomorrow and then we go to my favorite place Steak and Shake. Then we go to get a hotel room and they …show more content…
Then I did it again and this time I got him on his back and PIN!!! In 1:29 and I move on.
Round two Loss and the day is over i 'm done, but I go tomorrow and do it again But I have to win three times to place or its restart and try again next year but all I know is i 'll give it my all. Me and my father go back to the hotel and of course I sleep, I was dead after waking up early and wrestling. After about an hour of sleep i 'm up and we swim in this pool that was so chlorinated my eyes were on fire, but it was better than nothing and it felt so good. Then we got dinner as dinner I mean chili 's chips and salsa. Soon bed and another day and another try and I was happy to even come, but even happier i 'm not going home. Day two and we get there and now it felt empty with 16 people from each weight each division went home and i 'm not one of them. Soon after, about an hour of waiting i 'm up and good to go, but today it took so long even to get to a mat because everyone was good now and you could tell. Then we go, me and my opponent and weThe first time I went to states was in 9 years old in 2013 I went two and two and out, but was the greatest day of my life it was awesome. I felt ecstatic to participate in our team tradition to hold hands as we salute. She congratulated me and held out her hand. I clutched her hand, even though my hands were shaking and sweating. The announcer asked us to salute, and we raised both of our hands, still locked together, as my team did before. I stepped down from the podium, still shaking, and all of my teammates congratulated me. I thanked them and sat down. I heard my name called once more; as a result, I looked up excitedly. Instead of a medal, I received a small purple bag addressed to me. I opened it and noticed a small stuff animal. I took it out and read the tag. It read: We knew you could do it! Love, Mom, Dad and Mason. I smiled. Immediately following, the announcer called our team, Silvia’s Gymnastics, for a first place team award! Our entire team jumped up onto the podium and took our trophy. Our coach congratulated us and pulled me aside to personally tell me how proud she felt about my accomplishment. I thanked her and joined my parents on the bleachers. They congratulated me and we drove home. When we arrived, my family all sat down together and ate ice cream cones as we discussed my competition. Before this day, I felt frustrated with the sport; pessimism overtook my psyche. Then, however, joyfulness filled my heart, and everything around me became so positive and cheerful. I
I was going to go! I promised myself, and my coach, that I would! I was really sweating, my face was seriously turning red, like I was eating a fireball! All of my teammates and coaches were all staring at me. I was so terrified and I felt like I was in the ocean with sharks surrounding me and going to eat me any second! “OK, this is silly” I told myself. ‘I 'm going for it!” I started to run in very slow motion and sped up, I started putting my hands on the ground and I could just see eyes staring right at me! I began to put my hands back, well they were touching the other side of my body, well very quickly lifting my body up from the ground and…… Finishing!! I could already see my friends coming to me and putting their hands out so give me a REAL BIG HIGH FIVE! Well my coaches were coming right after them! I seriously jumped up and down with the most excitement I’ve ever had! I was trying to get that for years I felt like! And guess what? I did it! Gladly, that was the last rotation before we got to go home! I was so thrilled to tell my mom
At the beginning of seventh grade, I would always joke around that I would do wrestling, like with all the other guys. Later on that year when wrestling season was starting I decided to sign up. I didn’t know what being in wrestling was going to be like because it would be like nothing I’ve ever done before.
I am a competitive cheerleader I am a girl who gets into a tight uniform and skirt with a ton of makeup on so I can walk out on a mat and impress the judges while we listen to the crowd scream and cheer. Right now I am at my competition. We are on next. My team and I stand behind the curtain ready to go. The nerves are building up. So many things are running through my head. As soon as your feet touch the mat the judges are watching you and you can't make a mistake. When the music to our routine started everyone was ready to go. Our first stunt came we were so scared that it would fall, but we hit our stunt and the crowd cheered. Next up was tumbling. We all tumbled strong and powerful.
When we left the arena it was around 10:30. We went back to the hotel and went to bed just to get up to wrestle again the next day. We get to the arena and they do a parade of wrestlers so we waited in one of the floors entrances and the smell was horrific, I was relief when we started the parade just get out of the smell. After the parade and national anthem, I was up quickly. The first match of the day went out and won 8-1, which means I would place top 6. The second match went into double OT and with 15 seconds left he locks his hands and I win 2-1. Now with one match left and going for 3rd I wanted to leave everything out there. Finally, match I went out to the center and my opponent was about 5’4, and he was stocky and was built, and when that whistle blew I knew I was outmuscled and he won 10-3. Walking off the mat I just thought to myself “What did I just accomplished in the past 2 years” and at that point, I knew wrestling was my sport. I thought I would never see a grown man cry but after that match, I saw my dad just tear up. After getting my award we waited till the tournament was over because they were keeping a team score. When the final match was over the total the score and we won with a total 243.5 for 2A
Then, I went to my camper, changed, and headed to the arena with Pokey. Being in the senior division requires me to be one of the first contestants to compete in every event. Showmanship was the first event of the night, everything went great, I placed first which guaranteed me a spot in the round robin the following evening. The riding events followed, I was placing first in every event, finally my hard work was paying off. My excitement was through the roof; I could not believe the outcome. After the slow events, I knew that I was in the lead, but I had to win at least two more events before I could secure my title, which wasn’t going to be easy considering that my sister was right on my tail. Then, it was time for the barrel racing, the best event of them all. Pokey was without a doubt faster than my sister’s horse. There should not of been any reason why I would lose. The announcer called my name, “First up in the barrel racing will be Elizabeth Mangels, enter when you are ready.”, at this point my nerves were going crazy, knowing that I had to win, I was ready. The gate opened, Pokey jolted forward with so much power,
And then it was our turn I was so excited after all of the ear splitting, wood rattling, and blood-curdling screams I was ready to get on and take my turn. We got in and it was super hard to get the bar down It just wouldn't go so it was like above me. And my dad was trying to click it in and the Rollercoaster started going the people didn’t even check our bars the lady yelled all clear and the roller coaster started to move “ yeah i thought so much for that working out and being at the gym
Today is the day for State track, the day I been working the whole season. When we pulled up to the stadium there were lot’s of people. I was so nervous, because I never been to a track meet like this before. We got everything unloaded from the suburban, walked into the stadium and was suprised how many people was there. When it was time to walk over to the discus ring, I saw girls throwing far. I was nervous. It was time for me to warm up and I had three practice throws. The first one was close to the hundreds, second one past hundred, and third past hundred and five. I looked over at my grandpa and he smiled. He said, no more practice throws, I was happy but nervous at the sometime. When it was my turn I went up to the ring and threw around the hundreds. After I got done
Then, as quick as air, he writhed his way out, came out behind me, and scored two points for a reversal. I struggled to get one point for an escape, but we went out-of-bounds. Placed at the center of the mat again, I finally escaped. Sloppily, he took another shot and I scored off of it as I had done before. He quickly escaped, bringing the score to 5-3. Suddenly, he went in for another takedown. Unable to defend properly, I fell to the ground and he scored, tying the score at 5-5. I could hear my teammates and my coaches shouting my name, telling me to escape. I squirmed and finally managed to escape and score the point; I was in the lead. I just had to survive these last few seconds and I would win. We circled around more, but I kept backing away, unwilling to risk giving him any more points. The whistle sounded, “One point red, stalling on green.” The score was 6-6. I cringed slightly, but kept my composure.
This past week would be my fourth time going to anything state. This Tuesday my aunts and a couple of my cousins and I got in the car and drove all the way to Des Moines for the state tournnament. Once we got there we sat down in a good spot it was Hannah, Trey, Kayla, and I. Kayla and Hannah left to go to the bathroom, and it was Trey and I saving the spots. Trey left to go to the bathroom so I was saving the spots. After a little bit Kailyn Erikson and Emma Rissman came and asked me to move, (I thought they wanted to get through) then all of a sudden they sat down. And I said "excuse me these spots are saved" and they said, "not anymore". So when they got back they asked the girls to leave and they said 'We are older so we can sit here".
It was a saturday evening. All this practice, for the “big game”. The roster had shown I was qualified for the state tournament. I grabbed my bag which included my headgear, my energy drink and my slim wrestling suit. Momentarily after, I hopped in the SUV and waited for my parents. My mother grabbed the keys, and we were off. The GPS estimated our
The football season had just ended in Orem Utah and my coach was an assistant wrestling coach. People had been telling me things about wrestling the whole football season to the point where I actually considered it. I went to open mats one day and decided that I was going to wrestle. There were two other first year freshmen in my weight class and I beat both of them. In my first year of wrestling I was already varsity. The whole year I got pounded on over and over again by kids who had been wrestling for years. I kind of just accepted the fact that I was going to lose most of my matches. Our very last dual of the season was against Orem High School who were our mortal enemies. The dual started off at the 120 pound weight class. Me being in the 113 pound weight class meant I would be the last one to wrestle. The dual was incredibly close and by the time I was up Orem was winning the dual by one point. My coach told me to go out there and keep it simple. I went out, took him down, and pinned him in just fourteen seconds. The crowd exploded. Everybody started chanting my name. The captains picked me up and put me on their shoulders as they carried me around the gym. This event was important to my life because it gave me confidence that I needed, it kept me wrestling because I was on the verge of quitting, and it was a moment that I’ll never forget my entire life.
Wrestling was a sport I had no interest in, and I only tried out, because my coach recommended that I’d give it a shot. I never would of thought on my seventeenth birthday that I’d be wrestling for the conference championship. Reagan Fedowitz from Union Pines was my opponent, who placed fifth in the state tournament the year before. The tournament was held at Union Pines, so majority of the crowd were fans of Reagan. A announcer calls my name to come check in at the table, and I immediately become nervous. Although I was nervous, I used this as an advantage to become motivated for the match.
Then i ran over to the trapeze one of the coaches told me to take my shoes off and get chalk my hands (chalk on the hands helps with grip). Once I took off my shoes I told my dad that i was so happy. Then I walked over to where the coach was he asked me my name I practically screamed josephine at him cause I was so happy I couldn't contain myself. Once the other people got there I got to go first the coach told me what to do. Once i hooked myself in I started climbing up the rickety ladder. I was so scared but as I climbed up I saw little notes duct taped on the ladder the first one wrote I think I can do this the second one wrote i'm pretty sure I can do this and the third one wrote I know I can do this and the last one wrote I can do this. Finally I got up on the little purple platform at the top. I was standing on the platform waiting for one of the coaches to do something then I whispered hi. Then the coach realized that I was there and she the special trapeze belt I wore. It had two hooks on the side of it so I could get hooked on to ropes because they have a lot of safety things. Then the coach on the platform shouted are you
Throughout my life, there were many days that were significant; however there is only one day that stands from the rest. The most important day of my life is the day I graduated high school. Graduating high school was an emotional day because I felt prepared to exit one stage of my life and optimistic for the next step in my life.
