My Job As A Firefighter And An Emergency Technician

My short term career goals are: Graduate with the Associate of Science in nursing from Motlow in May 2018.

5 years from now my career goal that I have set for myself is to graduate from an approved nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN). After graduation I hope to be promoted at the hospital I am woking at to start working as a registered nurse

Shortly after enrolling in college I obtained a job as an emergency department (ED) scribe. Working as a scribe challenged me to think harder about what I wanted to do in health care. It was what I witnessed during my first code that inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. A patient had come into the ER with hypertension and bradycardia. Shortly after the doctor and I had finished completing his assessment, the patient went into cardiac arrest. While I was impressed by the responsiveness and intervention of the nursing staff, my eyes, like many others in the room, were fixed on Dr. Crowder. My career commitment as a nurse has grown tremendously over the past three years; through my daily experiences as a Medical Assistant. I have devoted my time as a full time student and employee of the health care profession. Both of these occupations have helped shape me into the person I want to be for as long as time allows. Daily I witness these community role models that posses abilities such as problem solving skills, promotion and protection of an individual’s advocacy all tied in with compassion to meet the health care needs of an individual.

I stood with a look of wonderment as I watched the beehive of physicians, radiologists, nurses, and paramedics collaboratively save a man’s life. The scene initially appeared chaotic with scrubs flying around and doctors swarming all over, but in actuality the team was extremely single-minded—as if driven by instinct. I was amazed by the speed and conviction with which the attending doctor made his decisions; his training and experience was evident with every move. Seeing the tearful wife thank the doctor highlighted the impact of his work—his actions had saved a husband and a father. I left admiring both the competency of emergency physicians and their ability to touch lives in such a dramatic way. While my enjoyment of high school biology sparked my original inclination towards medicine, my first hand experiences in the hospital deepened my motivation and left me steadfast in my decision to become a doctor.

My short-term goals are to gain acceptance into Nurse Practitioner school and commit to clinical and academic excellence throughout my education. I plan to immerse myself in my professional development and to continue improvement of my advanced practice role. My long-term goal is to oversee stroke patients in an acute care facility and be actively involved in their care as they move to rehabilitation services and eventually recovery. I plan to use my knowledge of critical care and family practices to develop a holistic plan of care for patients, which will involve treating both their acute and chronic

The experience I gained at the cardiology clinic and the hours shadowing at the Methodist Hospital emergency room are a pillar for the career of my choice. I want to be able to help those in need in my local community hospital. I feel the urge to give a hand to those that have guided me through the right path, from teaching me right from wrong to encouraging me to strive to be the best in life. At the Methodist hospital, I learned how to obtain patient’s medical history and entered data into Cerner, and I obtained consent from patients before procedures such as diagnostic imaging and casting. I observed physical examinations being performed by the physician assistant and it taught me that it is necessary to have knowledge to be able to diagnose and treat conditions and that interpersonal skills are essential for this career. Currently, I work for the department of health where I triage and register patients, assist physicians and nurse practitioner in the examination of patients, and assist with maintenance of inventory supplies and

I have always believed in giving back to the community and in sharing my competencies and skills with others. My desire to help people in the field of nursing has powered my decision to take up a graduate degree in Nursing. Overcoming the many challenges in my life has helped me to believe that I can reach any goal I have set for myself, and one of these lifelong goals is to become a nurse practitioner and to obtain

I am an Emergency Department nurse whose goal is to care for patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have had the privilege of working in a fast pace setting with patients of all ages and I’ve been exposed to various medical illnesses. As an Emergency Department nurse, I feel these qualities have provided me with experiences that further my education and allow me to provide care to patients. Furthermore, I have gained valuable knowledge from recognizing and stabilizing critical patients to help with the care for uncomplicated medical conditions.

As a young Puerto Rican, I always wanted to be a nurse or a doctor. This is because I have always had a caring heart and I enjoyed to take care of everyone. My educational goal is to get a Doctorate degree in Nursing. Furthermore, to reach that goal I have to start working on my Associate Degree. Therefore, my first educational goal is to begin and complete my associate degree. My career Goal after graduation is working as an RN in the Sarah Todd Nursing Home; the nursing home which I currently work at as a CNA. Being a CNA allows me to reach out and help people. Continuing my education would increase the amount of care that I can provide.

My professional goal is to become the most effective clinician I can be. This means having the professional latitude to diagnose, prescribe, and manage the overall care of a patient. It also means having a strong skill set that will remain relevant and adaptable in the changing market of healthcare (as mid-level practitioners rise and the number of physicians staffed decrease). As someone who is driven to manage and multitask I am drawn to the autonomy and independence that a nurse practitioner is granted. I thrive in situations that require leadership.

To begin with, I am currently going to East Valley Institute of Technology to become a certified medical assistant. After my senior year I will continue my schooling in order to go into the health care. I will do this by continuing to go to Mesa Community College were I will finish to get my associates in applied science of nurse. When I have finished that I will transfer to the university of Arizona to become part of their nursing program, at the same time work on getting my bachelor's and master's degree. This will help be to become an RN. My ultimate goal is to become a registered nurse working in the emergency room, as well as hopefully travel around the world as a missionary nurse to help others in

Because of these changes, my interests in nursing have been influenced by circumstance. From the very beginning of my journey, I had a strong interest in becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), but because of the need to relocate for my husband’s job, becoming a CRNA was no longer an option due to location. After reevaluating my options, I have established a new interest in becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, but because of my academic marathon and because of my age, I have also considered foregoing the additional education past a BSN. Other areas of interest include the Emergency Room, Cardiology, Critical Care, and Neurology. All of my career options interest me because they provide challenge and constant change. Hopefully the remainder of my academic journey will help solidify my ultimate career goal in the nursing profession.

After completing my bachelor’s degree at Florida State University in the fall of 1997, I began my career at a small hospital in Largo, Florida. I started on a thirty eight bed cardiac/telemetry unit. I had the fortunate opportunity to orient with a seasoned nurse who loved her career in nursing. She was an enthusiastic preceptor that not only educated me on the tasks of nursing but inspired and introduced me to critical care and critical thinking. I spent the next three years at this hospital working in the Coronary Care Unit until deciding to become a travel nurse and see the country. I began travel nursing with my best friend and we worked in Florida, Washington D.C., New York and Denver. At all of these locations we worked in the intensive care unit. Each experience provided a different population and vast new experiences.

I am a nursing student. I have a great passion for caring for others. My short term goals are to graduate Riverland Community College with my Associate's Degree in Nursing this December. I plan to work very hard and prepare to take my nursing licensure exam at the beginning of next year to become licensed as a registered nurse. I will then transfer to Metropolitan State University to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
