I define leadership as the ability to seek out and empower others to influence their generation and society for the greater good. A leader is a mentor. To me, a leader is someone who helps themselves and others to do the right things. They are people who build an inspiring vision of the future, motivates and inspires people to engage in that vision. They lead and work with others so that it is effective at achieving the vision. Leaders also set directions. They practice in the act of planning things out and leading a group/organization. Leaders have high management skills to guide people to a successful future, in an efficient way. Leadership is also the ability to see a problem and be the solution. As as a leader myself, I desire to influence
When I think of a leader I look back on how many people in my life that have helped me to get where I am today. My parents are authority figures in the sense that they are the ones that showed me right from wrong. There are the administrators that helped me along my way with school and completing all of the work that I needed to in order to make my way in this long road called life. Finally there are the instructors that have shown me the ways on how to become a leader myself. When I think of the word leader I do not think of myself right away, but now that I have taken on different roles in my life I have realized that maybe just maybe that I could become my own leader.
I base my leadership philosophy on four pillars, I will show how I incorporate all four as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). I am patient with myself, and my Soldiers. I am a doer who leads by example. I am a teacher who gives feedback through constant and consistent communication. I am flexible with the ability to change and adapt.
There have been many things in my life that have molded me into the leader I am today. Various people and groups along the way have taught me so much about what it means to be a leader. There were so many things that impacted my life and leadership.
I feel like my persona was sculptured and formed by my family. Everything they have taught me, I have kept with me for any obstacle that may come my way. My mom and my sister are the ones that are there for me the most and have taught me everything from respect to responsibility. I have learned to be a leader ever since I was young. An important person in my life that really enforced my leadership skills is my sister. Taking care of my older sister who has down syndrome did not only portray me as a leader, but I acquired a very useful trait that is patience.
Throughout my life, I have never really been a follower in the typical sense. While I have looked to people older than me for help and advice. In addition, I never really saw myself as a typical leader. What I mean by that is I felt that I was a leader by doing my own thing and not worrying about everyone else or being a part of a particular clique. What I realized by just going about my business is that my attitude attracted others in the sense that they knew I was about work and wanted to emulate my demeanor in order for to be successful in school. One time that I recall in which I had to lead a team of my peers was this past summer. I enrolled in a few summer classes in order to better prepare me for college. For one of my classes
Leadership has been present throughout my life. I can remember being able to take charge of groups when I was only in elementary school. I have been able to have many opportunities since then to be in a leadership role. Each one of these roles has had an impact on my life and the way that I view leadership.
I believe some people are born with leadership tendencies, while others are thrust into positions and develop leadership abilities over time. I have been fortunate to be in environments where individuals in leadership capacities have exhibited both contemptible and admirable leadership traits. By fortunate, I mean I have gained wisdom from all of those experiences which have aided in the development of my leadership skills. Characteristics such as abusing power and making decisions which are egoistic and unethical are not traits I aspire to possess.
Being a leader is no easy task. A person needs to be able to overcome their own obstacles if they want to be able to help others overcome theirs. My ability to be a leader is still not fully flushed out due to the fact that even though I can overcome my own struggles/problems, it's much more difficult for me to try and lead others past their's. This is why I am very interested in the Leadership Program. Austin is a huge city but unlike many large cities, its people prefer to work together, they aren't big fans of the "every man for himself" ideology. That of course means that the city and university themselves will have countless opportunities for me to try and smooth out the rough edges of my leadership skills. But I
I believe that I'm good in coming up with optimizing and innovative solutions. I feel good when I learn something new. I like when I can do something in a new way. I believe I have leadership skills. I’m emotionally stable and will remain calm under difficult situations. I can manage people with different personalities and can encourage them for improvement.
To me, leadership is not about being in charge of someone. It is knowing the group of people you are going to work with and being able to understand how it works best. Leaders need to understand who they are as people and what you need to do in order to be successful: how people learn, what they accept, and how well they can work with others.
Confidence, communication and commitment are just three of many traits that a leader possesses. Having those traits may help you become a leader but continuous hard work and dedication makes you one. To continue to be a leader you must also be intelligent, courageous, and determined. Becoming a leader is difficult but continuing to be one is even more difficult.
A leader’s role is to guide, motivate, and lead people towards an accomplishment. As the eldest sibling it’s utterly clear I had to be the leader in our day to day lives. I’m not quite certain I motivated any of my siblings in my case but I know for sure I guided and led them towards a better life.
Many people are leaders but some are not. It take a lot to be a leader. What does it take to be a good leader? Am I a leader or a follower? How do I know I’m a leader or a follower? Who follows me and when do they follow? When and where do I follow and can leaders cause difficulties for Christians? All of these questions will be addressed in this paper. I hope these questions make you think about yourself and help you become a better leader.
I have been a leader in the retail industry for well over 12 years (not counting my part time positions with Target for 6 additional) and I have never been tasked to think about past leaders that have shaped my leadership style. I have certainly never reflected on how those personally close to me have done so as well. Thinking about that now, I can see a correlation between who I am today and past influences in my life. When I think about who has had the most impact on who I am as a person today, not just as a leader, my mom is the first person I think about. At an early age my parents divorced and my mother took on the responsibility of raising 3 girls all on her own. We went from a family of 5 living in a 4 bedroom house with a huge backyard
Leadership to me is someone who leads by example, one who steps up in times of crisis and is able to think and act creatively in difficult situations. In light of recent events I believe the definition of leadership has changed. A leader may have a high profile or a low profile. There are over 100 different definitions of leadership that have been identified. Leadership is considered a trait, skill, ability, behavior, relationship and a process. Trait theories help us identify traits and qualities that are helpful when leading others. Leaders need the required traits that a particular situation demands. For an example, A high school class room with bored students requires a leader who is inspiring and creative. In addition to, leaders being
