Soccer has been one of the biggest parts of my life. I started at the age of 3 and ever since it has been my number one way to relieve stress and forget about stuff going on out of soccer. But this all got taken away from me on the day I tore my acl, February 27th. Soccer wasn’t just a sport to me, It was a way I lived. Practices 3-4 times a week, multiple games and tournaments. The amount of time and effort I put into this sport, and to just have it all taken away. Since I was little I thought I would make a life out of soccer. I thought I would play club, then high school, and finish with college soccer. But no I stopped even before I got to play high school soccer. It was a typical game, playing against a two year older team and D1 team. They had been pushing us to the ground, nailing us and beating us by two goals. I had the ball dribbling up the field, I remember thinking here I go, keep pushing, keep pushing. I get stopped by a defender on there team, she goes for the ball and I do too. Bam. I can still vividly remember the popping noise. I fall to the ground screaming crying. I couldn’t even straighten my leg. I knew something had to be wrong. 3 different sports trainers all talking to me. “Take deep breaths”, “you need to keep this straight.” Still I am balling my eyes out. This was the most unbearable pain I’ve experienced. “Okay we’re going to carry you to your car.” My mom was at my game so was with me and drove. I get into my car and they tell my mom “go to
Ever since I could remember, soccer had been in my life. If there was a soccer team that needed a coach, my father was always the first to volunteer. There were almost too many strenuous weekends spent hours away from home for soccer tournaments to count. My entire family, consisting of my parents, my siblings, my dog, and myself, packed in a mini-van heading to a city that I had never heard of for soccer games. But when I entered high school, all that would soon go away. I kept playing the same sport that I always had, although now I had to wake up at five in the morning for six hours of high school soccer practice in the smoldering summer heat in order to make the high school team. High School sports were more competitive than anything I had done before. I put in as much effort as I could to make the Varsity High School team, staying out past dinner to practice even longer. I was utterly divulged in soccer and trying to be the best I could be. Soon, I would regret placing a game over spending time with my family.
Growing up in a house with all boys in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, I was taught to be tough and injuries were very common but easily shaken off. When it came to sports, I would put all my time and effort into one thing: soccer. Soccer was always a true passion of mine; as a matter of fact, it was more of a lifestyle than just a sport. I would spend weekends traveling around my local area playing the game I loved with people I enjoyed being with. My teammates became like my second family after countless seasons and we did almost everything together off the soccer field. The idea of putting on my jersey and lacing up my cleats was a moment I would not trade for the world and something I would never take for granted.
Naturally, however, I got apprehensive in some plays and hesitated or did not move exactly as I should have, which would usually result in a goal or near shot, but it was not the end of the world. Near the end of my last season on junior varsity, I was goalkeeping against one of the toughest teams in my county, and was being hammered by their offense. At one point, I rushed forward to steal the ball from a forward, hesitated, and collided with the player. The sheer force of two players running towards one another and crashing jolted me, and I was on the ground, okay but a little confused. The player beside me struggled to get up, and she could not. I must have been in shock, because I could only sit and stare as the school trainer hurried over, and an ambulance was called for. She was ultimately taken to the emergency room, and doctors determined that she had broken both bones in her shin. I was given a red card, and later a three game suspension as a result, even though the accident had been unintentional. Something like this had never happened to me, and I was not only dumbfounded, but I lost a great deal of confidence in myself as a
I have played soccer continuously from age 3 to 18. Four years ago, I tore my right ACL. I endured surgery and 6 months of physical therapy, then almost 2 years later to the day, I was told the same fate again. I had torn the ACL in my left knee this time. Why did this awful injury have to strike me twice? Once again, I endured the months of rehabilitation and soon returned to the field. Having to go through this twice as a teen taught me that perseverance and determination will help you achieve what you want in life. Even though I spent almost 2 years away from the field, I still made every effort to be there for my teammates. Some days I didn’t want to get out of bed because of the pain, I didn’t want to go to therapy, and I wanted to quit.
I chose to play another year of recreational soccer, making sure to come back the next year to prove a point that I can put in the work and give myself the best opportunity to make the top team. Everyday after school, I would head to the fields and practice every aspect of my game. I would arrive an hour early to every practice, and I would leave an hour after practice. Day in and day out, I worked diligently on my fitness. For a year, I stopped at nothing to give myself the best chance I could to reach my goal. Motivated after that dissapointing tryout, nothing could stop me from doing my best. Standing on a different field, one year later, tryouts began. I was determine to produce my best performance. Two hours later, every player stood single file. Coincidentally, I was the first person called up; the coach informed me that I made the top team. However, this team played for a different club than the one I tried out for last year. This team competed at a much higher level. Not only did I make the team, but I gained the knowledge and appreciation for hard work and dedication. People rarely receive everything they want; however, they can always put in their best effort to provide themselves the best opportunity at obtaining what they
Everyone has that certain thing that makes them who they are. That certain thing for me is soccer. It’s my hobby, my biggest interest, and my passion. Soccer isn’t just a sport for me, it’s my life. It has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have played the intriguing game of soccer since I was four years old, and I have loved it ever since.
As a child, I grew up playing softball and that 's it. My mom played softball, my cousins played softball. It’s just all I knew. When I reached the seventh grade at Gardner Dickinson (my elementary and middle school), my friends all played soccer and I reluctantly joined as well. Each year I had my ups and downs with soccer, but it grew to be a part of who I am and has taught me a lot of things. For example, to try new things, to work hard, to never give up, and to step up and be a leader.
Soccer is my favorite sport, no I don’t watch it on tv, nor do I have a favorite soccer team. So, it all started when I was eight years old I believe I told my mom that I didn’t want to do a certain thing anymore and that I wanted to play a sport a.k.a soccer. She of course told me sure. So she signed me up for soccer a couple of days later. I was so happy I was jumping up and down with excitement. Little did I know that I would love the sport. So, the day of the first soccer practice I was nervous I never done anything with the team and I had these questions running in my head like what if no one likes you here? Or what if you like the sport? Or what if you aren’t even good enough ? but I let these questions slide and I had learned how to play the sport. In that amount of time I thought no more like Challenged myself and said “ Cassie you can do this you are going to be apart of this team and you are going to be the best.” From then on I challenged myself, I practiced almost all the
The pain was nothing like I had ever felt before. I had never broken a bone so I didn’t know it would hurt like this. It felt as if the world’s strongest person had just punched me in the lower back. At the time the pain was shooting all the way from the bottom of my tailbone to my mid-back. There was a tear running down my face. Everyone on my team, and all the parents on the sidelines, knew Iam injured. They knew this because I would never cry during a soccer game unless I was in pain.
Everyone has that one special thing. The thing that is comfortable and familiar. The thing that makes every problem, worry, and doubt go away. My thing is soccer. I cannot recall a time in my life where I didn’t have a ball at my feet. Soccer has been a major part of my life ever since I was born. From attending my first soccer game at the young age of one month, playing my first soccer game when I was two years old, and still playing to this day, it is safe to say that soccer has taken over my life.
Every student athlete dreams of playing the sport they love in their future, whether it is in college or even to go play as a professional. I have played other sports in my life, but soccer has always been my favorite sport. I decided to drop every other sport I was in to play soccer. It was a pretty hard decision because I really did like playing other sports, but I really wanted
My freshman year I made the Varsity soccer team. Every practice I had to strive and work harder to be able to keep up with the upperclassmen skill level and talent. I was finally getting to where I wanted with consistent practice. I became a starter and the upperclassmen would pass me the ball more and help me on the field when there were opponents on me. It wasn’t until the middle of the season when everything changed. We were playing against a school who was very skilled and talented. It was in the first half of the game when one of the girls on the opposing team had the ball and was dribbling it down the field. It got past our midfield players and two defenders. I was the last one before it reached our goalie. I ran towards her and with everything I had I kicked the ball.
Many people play sports and have hobbies they are passionate about, but soccer isn't justa hobby or a sport I play for fun soccer is my life. Millions of people across the globe play thebeautiful sport of futbol (soccer), so what makes me different from the rest. I started playingsoccer when I was 3 years old and instantly fell in love with the beautiful game. I could tell rightaway that soccer was my sport and my passion and no one could take that away from me.Throughout my development of soccer my emotions for the sport remained constant but mypassion for it changed I became addicted to the sport. I could and still stay soccer is my drug andI can not live without it. Soccer is many things to me it is my friend, my comfort place, mysupporter,
In the summer of 2008, my family moved into Laurel, Maryland. An old friend of my father invited us to come over to his house to meet each other's family and talk about old times. Their family wasn't big compared to our family; I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters while he had 2 daughters. His daughters invited me and my siblings to play soccer in their backyard. We agreed without hesitation. We couldn't split into even teams since it was 7 kids playing. So we decided that me and my older brother would be a team since we had more skills in the game. It was an extremely competitive game between us, I was pushed to my limit when suddenly I saw a stream of lights flicker throughout my eyes and collapsed. My initial reaction was to breath, but my
As soon as I step on the field with my team, the crowd roaring, I know my job is to entertain others and that is where my soccer career comes in play. I have experienced a lot in my soccer career, I know this is what I want to do with my life because I get to entertain a lot of people and I have a passion for the game. One day I was watching a Real Madrid game vs Athletico Madrid in the Champions League final. A guy named Cristiano Ronaldo was playing, I had a passion for soccer before that game but I did research on Cristiano Ronaldo, I learned very quickly that I wanted to be just like him. The game of soccer has a lot of emotion to it and I am a very emotional person, that's why my personality fits one of the greatest soccer players ever said “I learned all about life with a ball at my feet” (Ronaldinho). This career is one of the only ways I will try so hard in life, it is my #1 priority to play soccer, that is what draws me to this career. My other career is a video editor, because without movies and other entertaining things would not be around. Soccer inspired me to make soccer video edits. I have been doing that for 2 years, I fit for this job because I am very good with editing software and I am motivated by it. For both of these careers no special clothing is required, except in soccer I have to wear athletic clothing.
