My Music Program Analysis

Entering the path to high school was a very important event due to how the school was bilingual, teaching both English and Spanish. I personally thought it was going to be challenging due to the double amount of assignments. However, the school introduced a music program, that was mandatory for all students. I thought of it as a way to distract myself from all the academics. That’s when I became a trumpet player. As a high school student, I was able to cultivate skills that would help me become a more reliable person not only with others, but also with myself. I remembered when working on research papers for the English and Spanish, I had to constantly received constructive critique from my peers and teachers. I never neglected the comments I received from them, especially knowing that these were going to improve my writing skills. There’s the time when in the sophomore high school year, when one of my music teachers introduced me to an extracurricular music program that was held on the weekends. In the program, the participants were all from middle school to high school, and the music level was very difficult. I remembered feeling very demotivated because I did not have enough music skills like the other students, but I had to put extra effort on weekdays after school, where I had to constantly played the same parts over and over again. At the end of the program, I was invited again for the next three years. Lastly, there’s the challenge of revising the assignments asked by the professor. I was constantly struggling in the Spanish class, so my teacher would usually give me a second chance to improve my work. For instance, in music class, whenever the teachers were absent, the student were asked to work together in groups as a way to practice whatever needed improvement. I would sometimes work with the trumpet section as a way, so we can sound better as a section. The questions from the students were based on the rhythms, instrumental notes, or ways to improve the playing style. Sometimes we worked in a separate classroom where we would sit in a circle and talked about ways to improve as a group or as an individual. In my senior year of high school, I was taking Calculus and AP Calculus, which were the most challenging subjects throughout all previous years. The teacher recommended me to study and ask question frequently, so I wouldn’t miss any relevant detail from the lessons. I remembered a certain occasion when I was very confused on a certain process that I had to take time from one my classmates, so I could ask him to teach on one-one on this process. It took me several days to understand it. I would constantly ask the teacher for more problems related to the process. Enriching the skills learned as a way to contribute to my learning when working independently or dependently helped me become a better young adult.
