It is important to note that a worldview is not immediate as it developed over the course of one’s lifetime and passed on from generation to generation through factors such as tradition, beliefs, education, political orientation, mass media, and social interaction. When a child is born, they do not know what is moral or immoral, acceptable or unacceptable or have any attitudes and beliefs; they do not have a worldview. For the most of our lives, these worldviews develop in us over time, and we take them for granted, and so they just remain below the surface of our consciousness or awareness. Typically as human beings, we are partially conscious of the world views we have, and it is to mean that we are not fully aware of them. The development and comprehension of our worldviews are an evolution and a process, and for this reason, the world views evolve in a direct response to our collective cultural histories and individual and unique life experiences. Although the notion of a worldview might appear basic in nature, the word itself simply meaning how one views the world around them, worldviews are much more complex and far reaching. A worldviews development occurs over the course of a lifetime, shaped by the complex and unique experiences of an individual and the sum of family traditions, religious beliefs and cultural histories. It is an all-encompassing interpretation of reality that plays a central and defining role in our attitudes and concepts about life. A worldview is the way a person views and interprets the world around them. Life experiences and spiritual influences play a part in forming one’s worldview. A person’s worldview helps them to determine beliefs on creation, humanity, morals and what happens after death. According to Waddell, (2014) “Worldviews are also like lenses found in eyeglasses that serve as the means through which a person sees the world.” (para. 43) In this paper, the main components of the Christian worldview will be discussed, to include God, humanity, Jesus, restoration and analysis of Christian Faith as well as a reflection of my own beliefs.

Throughout this class we have discussed the different worldviews that an individual may have. This class has taught me that a worldview is how an individual understands the world and their place in it. “A worldview consist of what a person believes to be real and true, what a person values, how a person makes decisions, and what forms a person’s desires, longings, and goals” (Fuller, Lecture One). An individual’s worldview is the motivating force behind their every emotion, decision, and action. A worldview is what helps an individual make sense of life and this world. A worldview will provide answers for many different questions in life. A few of the questions that a worldview helps answer are questions of origin, human dilemma, hope, and destiny.

Another part of my religion that affects my worldview is the fact we have forgiveness through God. He sent is one and only son to Earth to die in order to give us salvation through him. That gives me hope for our world, the fact that we have a choice to follow him and refrain from sin. Another belief from my religion that influences my worldview is that there is evil in the world. Especially in today’s times, it is easy to see how the world is becoming filled with more and more evil. I think God allows evil in the world to keep humanity in check to some point. In other words, God has the need to test his followers. Those tests most often come in the form of different evils. The tests are, in other words, a way to test our self- will. I think this is a huge part of Christianity and in turn my worldview. I feel like showing your self-will is a daily challenge and in it can be tested in many different ways or scenarios. I think that God is able to take evil away but somehow it is necessary to keep in the world. I honestly can’t think of a reason for keeping evil in the world but I have to keep faith that God does have a purpose for it. This, ties in to a part of my worldview, in that there is a purpose for everything.

The environment you grow up in and people you find yourself surrounded by as your make your way through the maze of life has a profound impact on a person 's worldviews. I am no exception to this rule, and to illustrate this point I will detail how I was raised, what I believed, and how I came to start examining those beliefs a little closer. It makes us who we are and is shaped by our experiences, culture, and background (Smith, 2015). A worldview is fluid, it changes as we change and discover our identities. It is made up of the questions that humans may ask to determine their wealth to the world or their purpose in life. Our worldview can make us gravitate toward other individuals with similar beliefs. Today’s society consists of many worldviews. Most people tend to pull beliefs from different religions, but often stick to one main worldview. A worldview to me is the gathering of beliefs that shape what we do on a daily basis and forms our overall view on life. When I look at my beliefs critically, I am able to see my worldview and see how it compares to different worldviews, but also how it compares mainly to the Christian Worldview.

Whether clearly defined or not, everyone holds a worldview. Through life, travel, study, and contemplation, I have sought to clarify and substantiate my worldview. When comparing my beliefs to various other worldviews, mine stands up as logical and rational. Most importantly, my Christian worldview can be applied to contemporary problems and even explain many of the world’s issues. Though the Christian worldview is one of the most criticized, it provides substantive answers instead of more philosophical questions. After all, a worldview is only worthwhile if one can explain and defend their beliefs.

Everyone has their own unique beliefs and motives that push them through their lives. I have many different beliefs instilled in me that mold my day to day life. These beliefs have been formed either by learning from my parents, or by personal experiences. One major conviction of mine is the pursuit of happiness. There are many ways to strive for happiness, and all people are unique in the fact that no one shares the same goals. My happiness comes from a core of beliefs. Religion is an extremely important part of my life, and I can thank my mother and father for that. Another belief of mine is that hard work pays off; in many situations I have been shown that a good work ethic goes a long way in being successful. I also believe in being an optimist throughout life’s trials and tribulations. Many things can upset me in day to day experiences; however, I believe it to be crucial to obtain a joyous attitude. These beliefs have become priorities to me and carry me through my life, and help me to succeed.
