My persuasion skills have become a prominent component of my personality over the last few years. I’ve been told many times that I ‘play my cards well’, meaning I know what to say to others to get my way. Personally, I believe I only use these prowesses with people I’m extremely close with, like my mom. Recently, I managed to sway her into letting me take a last-minute trip to Nashville, Tennessee for two concerts. I’m extremely determined, and when I set my mind to something, I do everything I can to reach my goal. Once I skimmed through our plans for the weekend, I convinced her we both needed a break and the road trip would fit perfectly into our hectic lives. With my persuasion and a little luck, I found myself packing a suitcase for my
During September the year 2014, my family and I took a 2 day trip to Dollywood. I was just eight years old at the time. That drive took us 12 long hours long because of car problems. Finally at 10 o'clock at night, we sluggishly dragged our extremely tired selves into the comfort of our soft beds in the hotel. The next morning, we drove over to the park and just past the entrance was a special place where you can get measured and given a color coded bracelet that would let you and others know what rides you were tall enough to ride. I was so excited because I was finally tall enough to get an orange bracelet, which meant I could ride most of the rides. After riding the smaller rides with my younger siblings, my mom wanted to take me on a

“Nashville” by Tiana Clark was published in 2017 and details the experience of a black women through first person during present time and how her life as a black woman relates back strongly to the civil rights movement of the 1960’s. The speaker is a woman who is married to a white man and that is chasing someone who said a racial slur to her on the streets. She talks about how the civil rights movement happened and how it changed but how history repeats itself in a way that racism is still around today. The poem ends with her trying to come with peace with finding out who said the racial slur so she can get over it and move on. Racism has been around a long time. This poem in a deeper sense is about death of innocent people and
For football fans like myself and for anyone working in the sports world, the Washington Redskins franchise has become heavily scrutinized for their team trademark name. The Washington Redskins are one of the oldest members since the start of the National Football League. Fans from all across the United States and the world adore the Redskins. However, in recent years, the term ‘Redskin’ has been viewed as a mockery to the native american community.

The great state of Mississippi gained quite a treat on March 26, 1911 and that treat was a baby named Thomas. A native of Columbus, Thomas Lanier Williams would grow up to become one of the most well-known playwrights in theatrical history. Williams did not attend school regularly due to frequent and severe illness as a child. He was homeschooled for most of his life but did graduate from high school in 1929 ( Weales,7 ). The illnesses that he suffered from included diphtheria which caused his legs to be paralyzed for almost two years. Because he rarely left the house, it would not be unusual to find a young Tennessee in a pile of books in his grandfather’s library. Williams’ father was not often home because his career caused him to travel, therefore, the playwright spent the first decade of his young adulthood with his grandparents. When he was twelve years old, Williams’ family moved to St. Louis . Throughout the course of his childhood and young adulthood, Williams’ parents struggled to hold their family together. Finally, his parents separated for good in 1947 ( Falk, Chronology ). The instability in his family was both marital and medical. The psychological disturbances that appeared in many of his family members were great influences on his writings. Thomas L. King, in his journal “Irony and Distance in The Glass Menagerie” discusses the impact of
This year’s family vacation was one for the books. With my aunt living in Tennessee, we do not get together as often as we would like so my family decided to go to Nashville, Tennessee. When we started our trip, it was 6 a.m. and it was nothing short of fun and laughter along the way. Never having been to Tennessee before, I figured I’d enjoy the eight-hour ride of sight-seeing and laughter with my family. When we were a few miles into the trip, the mountains of Georgia were breathtaking. While I was enjoying the scenery, another thing that I found enjoyable about this trip was the conversation that I had with my family. We went on talking about life in general, all the struggles, and childhood memories that we had. We even talked about years
The greasy scent of cheap burgers and fries wafted into the car as we pulled into the parking lot of a Wendy’s, right in the heart of who-knows-where, East Tennessee. I couldn’t contain my excitement as I rushed my 12-year-old self out of the minivan and into the palace of grease. Clad in ratty sweatpants and a t-shirt with my hair pressed down from my prolonged use of headphones, it was evident that I spent long hours sitting in a car, asking “if we’re there yet” too many times to count. In this moment, however, carving up Snowshoe Mountain on my snowboard didn’t seem as exciting as the machine that stood across the room. Standing tall, shiny, and red, the Coca-Cola Freestyle soda fountains were in the early stages of being released, and
This summer I went to Maryland for the first time and met my family that is over there.
