This quarter during communications we were told that we had to do four speeches and two impromptus. Initially, this made me nervous because I didn’t know what I would speak about or who I would do pair and group work with. These speeches made each student in the class meet goals at their own pace (sort of), allowed them to grow their communication skills, and learn more about topics that interested them. The first of the three goals was to “improve ability to deliver speeches for a variety of purposes, situations, and audiences.” This goal was to be met by giving both prepared and impromptu speeches both in class and to other groups. My speeches were my introductory speech, my talk from TEC, a persuasive speech about media bias with …show more content…
There were times where I was unable to meet with my ILP partner that day but even with that everything went smoothly in regards to communicating ideas. This also relates to my persuasive speech. There were many times where one of the pair of Abby and I were gone. However, we were still able to communicate our ideas with each other because we had documents that we could both access and were efficient enough to get everything done when both of us were here. The goal of communicating effectively in groups was shown by the senior center visits and group informative planning. The senior center visits ability is shown mostly through my senior service learning project, where I went over each what happened during our visits, how I felt, and what impact it had on me. These things are also shown through my journal entries from the weeks that we visited. The group informative helped me grow as a communicator because we had three people that were all working together and all had different ideas of what should be in the speech. We had to discuss exactly what part of the broad topic we wanted to inform the audience of, which ended up being misconceptions. The time spent working on it was sometimes silent, but at other times was full of discussion on what we were working on and what parts
In the eleven chapter of A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking, the authors talk about
The first morning of nursing care I felt nervous, as well as extremely excited. This was my first true interaction working in the health care system, specifically with a resident and I wasn’t sure what to expect. The first aspect I noticed when I began my day with my staff buddy was how fast paced we moved and how time flew, which is something I expected but was still surprized by.
In the first speech for this class, my main goals were to gain confidence to voice my ideas and use speech to make a difference in peoples’ lives, and to practice overcoming my speech anxiety therefore be able to use my nerves to focus myself. Overall, I believe that I did improve in both of these areas as a result of information from the book, mini speeches, and the larger speeches.
Since the start of this class, I have been reminded again and again that the concepts we are learning can be applied to everyday life. For instance, when we talked about non-verbal communication, I realized that it is impossible to not communicate. There are many activities, other than the use of language, that allow us to draw meaning from something we observe. When my mother widens her eyes at me without stating a word, I understand she is telling me to think twice about the action I’m about to take. It has been great to be able to assign concepts and vocabulary to interpersonal relationships and communication activity that I have been experiencing. Now let me introduce you to my friend Izzy and her boyfriend Ken as I analyze the
A crucial event that I attended this semester was the Woman In Isenberg Conference. At this conference I was given the opportunities to connect and meet with alumni. I, through much preparation, was able to successful network and have useful conversations with some of the woman at the event. This day long event really was focused on creating strong connections with not only our peers but other successful women in modern day business. Throughout the day there were many different chances to listen to panels or professional personal talk about what their passions were. One of the workshops that I attended at this event was the public speaking workshop. I especially liked this workshop because I’ve always had a hard time speaking in front of crowds.
Like millions of others living in America, public speaking was my greatest fear, so when I was registering for this class, CST 100, I prayed and hoped that I would have the opportunity to be taught by a competent professor. From the ten class sections listed, I narrowed it down five based on meeting dates that could fit into my summer schedule. To make a final
My CLC team has been effective working together by setting times ahead to work on projects. We’ve been very good about planning and sticking with the plans we’ve made. Also, we sit down and discuss ideas that will fit each project we’ve had to complete, so we have a general idea. As much as our group still worked effectively together, a skill we could improve upon is communication itself. Some of our members lacked adding their input into conversations we’ve had, which in my opinion resulted in some symptoms of groupthink.
I focused on explaining why yoga has become so popular in present society. My intent with this speech was to clear up misconceptions about yoga, explain why it has become more modern, and how people benefit especially students from yoga practice. My performance and writing in this speech improved and I was able to convey my key points in a way that connected to my audience. It was noted by both my professor and fellow classmates that I made my speech more personal which connected to my audience better. My delivery improved because I had better verbal skills with clear articulation and used an energetic tone. I still had issues with over-reliance on my speech aid and lacking body movement. I had okay eye contact which negatively affected my relationship with the audience. After this speech my goal was to spend more time developing my writing and have more body movement during my
In Honors Intro to Business & Tech, I was introduced to two new programs. The first being “Marketplace” and the other being “Toastmasters.” Toastmasters is a program led at Chestatee High School by Kimberly Holland. The purpose of Toastmasters is to offer people a way to improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. To improve my skills as a speaker, I went through training and speeches. At the beginning, I required the use of notecards just to know what to say next. As time went by, I didn’t require notecards anymore to speak my speech. We had three speeches in total to perform and each speech, I got better. Our final product was our third speech. The third speech was a speech about inspiring others or what inspires
(Q.2.) Working with a partner made the speech-making process much easier. In the demonstration and the informative speech, I struggled with creating an outline and writing the speech. Working with a partner made creating an outline easier. We sat down together Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and wrote the whole entire speech together and completed the outline. It felt like the speech making process was not as stressful and I felt more confident about the process because I had someone else helping me and brainstorming ideas. Another example of how the speech making process was easier was because we created the speech on google documents. This allowed both of us to look at what we had and edit the speech. We would alternate with one telling what to type and the other one typing what the partner was saying. We used the same document to practice our speech together too. We could continue to edit when we were practicing which allowed us to create an amazing speech.
Every speech given is a lesson to be learned. Not just by those listening but to the person giving it as well. The informative speech I gave was no exception. I learned a great deal from this speech about my strengths and weaknesses as a speaker. In this paper, I will delve into the details by dividing the speech into the usual categories of content, delivery, and organization. In each of these categories I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses I noticed in my informative speech in each of these areas.
The society is place where communication has become a basic factor as in the reading pdf one. It has the effect that in the society, with no communication, then the personal self-identity will be lost. People in the society care and reflect a lot in the society and their fitting in it. This is done through the art of communication. The social life of communication has been advanced from just the basic and the usual way of communication that is tradition, the verbal communication. With technology, there has been the inventory of social platforms like the twitter and Facebook. One just setting behind a computer with the just a simple click of the mouse he or she gets to communicate with world at a glance. The communication is even advanced that there is a wide range of information.
For daily life, we all need to communicate and yet the definition varies person to person. Everyone has different ways to communicate whether it’s nonverbal or verbal. You could communicate visually through arts and film. There’s also written communication such as books, texts, and emails.
In the three communications I’ve written, text, email, and letter to insurance company. All of them had a different approach. Each written text were different people and they all had different responses. The background of the text I wrote to my friend was, my best friend I had known for years and we text every single day. The background of my email I wrote to my dad was tolerant because I not as close to my dad but, also, I should share how’s my life is going to him. In the letter, I wrote to my insurance company, it was urgent because I needed to tell them something needed to be done. They all come together as one whole story told in a different perspective.
Through a bullhorn, this world proclaims, “God is dead”. Under it’s breath, the earth whispers, “...at the very least, he is unplugged.”. Wholeheartedly I believe, as a result of my probing and questioning, these statements are simply untrue. Not only is He alive, the whole universe declares God to be a connected and loving being. Evidence to support God’s existence is unveiled through His communication towards us as a people. God’s relationship has an infinitely stronger impact upon our lives than a mere human excuse for disobedience. I have found through the Lord’s creation, his inspired scripture, and his ever present, relational Holy Spirit, more than enough evidence of his communication to us as a people.
