My Solitary Aspiration Of Applying For Graduate Program

For most of my childhood, I have been fascinated by the power that science has to transform humanity. Due to this belief, I developed a keen interest in the science of chemistry. In my opinion, chemistry is a puzzle that provides insight about our surroundings, similarly, by attending Tufts University I will gain different viewpoints which I will use to pursue my future endeavors. Consequently, the endless opportunities at Tufts University combined with my passion for new discoveries, commitment to fruitful endeavors and the determination required for success will produce a stimulating learning environment in which I feel I belong.

A student who succeeds is one who encompasses the bravery and courage to start anew. Even knowing that, I was a student who feared every little action I took in high school because of the consequences I was afraid to face afterwards. The uneasiness of carrying out plans alone shaped my character into an indecisive clutter about everything inside my mind. But even with that hindrance, I tackled one of the hardest choices I had to make: choosing Case Western Reserve University over University of Georgia.

As a society, we mainly focus on short term benefits and don’t acknowledge all the benefits which higher education will bring over the course of one’s life. In conclusion, education brings about positive changes among individuals, society, nations and the world as a whole. Benefits of education cannot be justified until one goes through it. People always think that they should be gifted a successful life however, in reality success is only earned. The attitude of earning success is almost impossible to find in today's world. However, I consider that I share a similar belief that success is always earned. In view of that, I think that I should be considered for the Robert and Luella Breitner Scholarship because of my unrelenting will to always work hard to achieve success.

This letter is in strong support of Jumana Fathima’s application to Seattle University as an Undergraduate student. Jumana was a phenomenal student in my General Chemistry class (Chem 162—General Chemistry second quarter) during the Spring quarter of 2017. Through my interactions with her inside and outside of class, I have observed that she possesses various qualities which make her a successful, passionate, and curious student. Though she was a high school student (junior in high school), she possessed the maturity and intellect of a college student. She kept up with the rigor and pace of the class such as the quizzes, labs, exams, and in-class activities and was always curious to gain more information. She also overcame all obstacles that arose by reaching out to me and finding logical solutions. Her motivation, hard-work, and dedication were all exemplary. In short, Jumana possesses fantastic traits and will be phenomenal addition to Seattle University.

Any desire worth achieving involves taking risks and dedication. In “Achievement of Desire," Richard Rodriquez had to abandon and detach from his family to achieve academic excellence. Just like Rodriguez, the greatest aspiration for many students who come from low-income families is to excel in academics and get a white-collar job to lead a comfortable life different from that of their parents. In fact, it is this desire that drives many of these students to work hard and achieve good grades in school. The issue of what motivates a learner to remain focused on achieving his or her goals is of great concern not only to me but many people. Personally, my parents have played a big role in persuading me to work hard at my studies to afford a luxurious life in the future. Despite intrinsic and external motivation, a person may find it difficult to remain committed to achieving academic goals due to the risks involved. Therefore, an analysis of the “Achievement of Desire” by Rodriguez is of significance since it will shed more light on the issue of the sacrifices involved to achieve academic excellence and become active in public life.

As a student in my sophomore semester who is financially weak, it is certain that I needed to be persistent and determined to achieve my career aspirations. However, I would not be at this level in my education without my family’s support. My parents have always thought me to believe in the slogan “Education is the most powerful weapon which I can use to change the world”. Life is just full of surprises that no one knows what will happen as time goes by. Growing up, there are just times where unexpected things tend appear. Being able to have nothing and or nowhere to run and ask for help is a very crucial experience in life which happen to my family. However, through this experience we learned and become stronger. To tell the truth, at first I wasn’t sure what to do in life after high school. But then again, learning what is happening around my surrounding as stated to the functional perspective, society is like a living organism with its various parts working together for the good of the whole (pg.16) really help me realize and opened my eyes that I want to make a difference. And in order for me to make a difference I need to have the knowledge to what I can do to help others. And this is why I decided to go to college. Based on conflict perspective, it focuses on power and the allocation of valued resources in society (pg.17) which have really helped me a lot on going to college. Having the access to resources have shaped my decision about going to college by giving me the courage that wherever people came from or whatever status they have doesn’t matter. I know the fact that my father doesn’t make that money, but through the help of financial aid resources have helped me a lot and nothing cannot stop me from going to college. And this is why I am very thankful through the help of financial aid and scholarship
