In my freshman seminar class we were supposed to do some sort of tutoring assignment where we are you go to any tutoring session then tell how we feel about it later. In my past experiences with tutoring sessions at Bethune Cookman University I didn't like it. My first time going to tutoring was for biology not because I needed to go but I thought it would be a good idea since we had one of our first big tests in the next few days in my bio class. It didn't really help me because the atp was helping another class and was hired by another teacher other than mine and that class was ahead learning things that my teacher either skipped over or decided wasn't that important to teacher and put on the exam. When I was in that session I didn't like

Another solution to better America’s education system is to offer free or affordable tutoring. Often, children and teenagers do not understand the material and fear asking questions in class. Providing free or accessible coaching benefits these struggling students. If students are afraid to ask questions, they need a safe and friendly environment that assists students at a low cost. After a couple of tutoring sessions, the tutor can form a systematic, structured learning experience for the student. In addition to this, after the student sees an improvement in their grades, their motivation, and their attitude towards that subject will ameliorate. On the contrary, parents may believe that tutoring is a waste of time and money. Nevertheless,
I’m definitely not the best student in the world, but I sure am one of the hardest working students I know. It was very easy to find me because I was always either at work, school, home, taking care of my grandma, or babysitting. I definitely had my head screwed on tight. I do believe that because I was/am taking care of so many people and trying to help my parents out financially, my grades have slipped quicker than I anticipated. I took on two study halls my junior year, and am taking on two study halls my senior year also. This definitely dropped my grade point average but I don’t regret it. I spend my study halls tutoring the students at my school. I specifically tutor for the Writing center and when I’m not tutoring for that, I’m helping
Today, I went to Glenwood Leadership Academy before my scheduled tutoring time because I had got word that it was going to be cancelled. Therefore, I went during school hours to get my scheduled time in. It was interesting to go to the school whenever school was still in session because it was a completely different atmosphere. The second grade classroom I worked with had many students with IEP’s. It was interesting to see how the school day went. The teacher explained to me that she was absolutely drained from the class, but she never gave up. That is the kind of motivation I hope to one day have as a future educator. During the hour I was there, I got to go around the room and help the students with math. I also worked today with
Response: I remember struggling when it came to knowing anything about college and the whole process. So during summer, I join a college prep camp, it was a week-long camp. I learned a lot more about college and how easy it was to apply. They taught me about financial aid and about scholarships. How to spend your money wisely. Another educational challenge I faced was the SAT, I knew I needed help with that test. I knew nothing about it, I didn't know any strategies to help me. So I went to a month-long tutoring session, for three days out of the week. During the tutoring session, the tutors were showing us stuff like eliminating the wrong answers to get the right answers. At first, I kept scoring 500s on practice tests but when I took the
Reflecting back to the tutoring center presentation I feel that it changed my perspective in how I feel about the tutoring center. Before I was scared about intimated of the tutoring center I didn’t know what to expect but know I see it as a way to help me. I felt much comfort and great support while I was listening to the presentation. It seemed to me that everyone involved in the tutoring center is there to help me and do my best to succeed and achieve my academic goals. The overall hours that the tutoring center offers is also a great benefit that can work with anyone’s schedule. Also walk-ins welcome, it just seems they are willing to work with you in everyway possible to better your education at Methodist University. One thing that shocked
I have tutored in less structured environments, such as helping friends and classmates with, particularly difficult homework assignments. And I have tutored in a volunteering position, particularly with English, French, and Biology. My academics also show that I am a dedicated learner. I have taken several different sciences, math, and writing classes that give me a broader range of topics to pull from. To me, the best way to tutor someone is to determine what they are having trouble with and why. From there, it is about tailoring each experience to each student. Some are visual learners, so graphs and images will work better. Others are auditory learners, so hearing the problems will help them better work out the answer. I will strive to ensure each student improves and make it so that they are not frustrated by the process. Sometimes, learning new things is hard, and it is my job to make the process fun, interesting and pushes the students to be better than
Why did you chose this “place” on campus? Which campus did you visit? What other “place” did you consider? Was it on a different campus? Why?
When I completed high school, I started a tutoring class in which my friend joined me. There are many children from poor background in the slum near where I live who could not afford holiday tutoring offered in other places. As we were just out of high school our memories and knowledge was still fresh. We initially had a class of just five students but the number grew to over twenty in one and a half weeks. We teach them Math, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. I take Physics and Chemistry. This was a success and it gave me inspiration and motivation. I felt happy knowing I was changing someone’s life directly by helping them improve their grades. It inspired me and made me want to help as much people as I could. It also helped me in gaining confidence
At the beginning of my college year I was scared and nervous to go to tutoring, because in high school I would had the chance to asked questions during class. Tutoring it might sound not the perfect plan for the busiest time. Tutoring it help me a lot because it help me refresh my memory in things that I did not remember or things that I did not understood. This strategy helped me
So, when I was at my tutoring job the other day, one of the teachers came up to me offering me a really great job opportunity in following her to a private school to become the teachers assistant. Due to the fact, I need healthcare benefits since I will soon be off my parents, I cannot let this opportunity go. Thus, I feel it is a time to accept a new challenge and is a great shot to pursue my career goals. Indeed, working at your home with your children was an educational experience and the affiliation I have made with your children will be memorable for years to come. That being the case, this is my two week notice, but during the next two weeks I am willing to help you in any way to make the transition as smooth as possible. As a result,
Eventually, after over a week of training, I began to tutor students. While the first student I tutored seemed quiet and nervous initially, I told the student I once related to their struggles of being confused and not knowing where to begin. When the student began to see me as simply another student and not someone who thought they knew it all, the student began to enjoy tutoring sessions with me and look forward to
Aside from dancing at charity shows, I never had any hands-on experiences in community service in upper elementary or middle school. Upon entering high school, I found the perfect opportunity to give back to the community with many extracurriculars at my high school, West-Windsor Plainsboro North. From 2 years with UNICEF to 4 years with Tutoring Society, I have realized that the best way I contributed to society was through tutoring. Tutoring has given me instant satisfaction when I saw the students I tutored come back and tell me that they aced a difficult test. It has been great being able to connect with the students and learn more about them, and the subject being taught. My experiences as a tutor have expanded my horizons and taught
This last year, my weekends have been busy with tutoring sessions with two young boys. With one in third grade, and the other in second, it was rather difficult at first convincing them that I was their teacher, and not some babbling pre-teen. Since then, I have successfully been able to help them grow in areas such as english, math, and science. Teaching and tutoring came natural, as I come from a long line of educators and professors. I now look forward to my sessions with my boys, because I don't just notice their adorable giggles, or sinister smirks, but the potential each one of them holds. Needless to say, I have grown to love working with children, and hope it does not end there.
I received tutoring for Intermediate Spanish 1 on November 2nd for thirty minutes. I learned about how to use the present subjunctive tense in Spanish. In addition, we discussed what days would be the best for regular tutoring sessions since our meeting was an introductory session. The most valuable takeaway from the session was getting another point of view of Spanish subjects in English. I discovered that I was struggling to grasp concepts in my Spanish class because my professor explains concepts only in Spanish. I understand that in order for me to become fluent in another language is to be fully immersed. Thus, my teacher only speaks to the class in Spanish and we respond in Spanish as well. Emily, my tutor, helped me understand that I just needed to hear the topic explain in the language I know best; English. No matter how much something is explained to me, I won’t actually get it unless it is put into the context of English. In addition, Emily made me feel welcomed in the space. I did not feel like I was being judged when she asked me to complete a few practice problems. The best part about the session is that she created her own set of questions based on what I was learning. After I
