My successfulness and my struggles began when I first learned how to write and read in Spanish and sixteen years later I was force to learn a new language which is English. Back in the Dominican Republic where I’m originally from in between ages five to eight my mother and I struggle with my writing skills. My mother struggle teaching me how to write and I struggle learning how to write clearly because my teachers couldn’t understand anything written by me. I cannot remember how my writing skill look back then, but I can remember how shamed I felt when my classmates made fun of my writing materials. Once my friends wrote in the board “El profesor esta muy loco” translation (the teacher is crazy) with a crappy hand writing before the teacher …show more content…
There I was graduating from Richmond hill high school with a dream of becoming somebody in my new life and make my mother proud of my achievement. By that time I was already working as a cashier in a grocery store thanks to my two language I used them every day long at work an also in high school. I took the placement test, but I fail all of them. I didn’t try again, but I only hurt myself because everything that I did learned in high school fade away in a year and a half that I spend it only working. Furthermore, I decided to enroll for college, but for my surprise I have to take remedial classes or clip. I chose clip while I spend a year in the clip program I still fail, but it did help me a lot in my English hand writing. This achievement wasn’t enough to pass my cat-w, but I did pass my reading thanks to my teacher Joao Da Silva. Also thanks to Jonathan Alexandratos and Blaise Bennardo teachers from Cuny Start that also help me to work and overcome my struggles when it comes to writing and thanks to Cuny Start I did pass all my test and now I’m working on getting my associates degree in physical education / personal
Author and professor of writing, Amy Joy stated “Anyone who says writing is easy isn 't doing it right” Learning what I have about the writing process over this past semester, I can now confidently say that Amy Joy is absolutely correct! Writing has never been my strong point but taking on the challenge to turn that around has been extremely rewarding. My lack of confidence in my writing skills would always come across in my assignments. It was clear that I needed guidance with grammar, sentence structure, and expanding my vocabulary. Fortunately, the coursework in English 101 along with the help and support of my professor, I have gained a much greater confidence in my ability to write quality college level papers. My writing has greatly improved taking the Introduction to College Writing course. I have learned how to integrate the words and ideas of others by quoting and paraphrasing, about expository writing, and most importantly, critical thinking.
I think there are some areas that still needs to be improved in my writing. For example, I have always struggled with reaching the minimum length of the essays that I have written in this semester. I also need to work faster on my assignments, and mapping out a timetable would be great solution in order to finish on time.
Coming into class this year I felt that my writing abilities were adequate but needed improvement. The feedback I got from my previous teachers was generally that I should add more details so that my writing pieces are longer. Therefore, my grades ended up being B’s and C’s with the occasional A. My writing goals for when I graduate are that my essays, narratives, etc. will be longer and more detailed. I hope to write at least a high school level.
Throughout my life, I’ve wrote to an unfathomable extent. Though some of my writing is favorable, I still have countless improvements I should make to my writing. I need to improve my writing in three major ways. First, I must halt my vast comma use. Throughout my writing many errors exist in my comma placement. Mainly adding too many commas, is the main problem. To counter this problem, I must proofread my work before submitting, and to be assured to have an equal balance between periods and commas. If I can apply my strategies correctly to my writing, I can hope my use of commas can enhance my writing. Furthermore, it is a necessity that I use less personal pronouns (“I” and “me” are exempted). In many of my written works, I find that not
The idea of being a technical writer has caught my attention since early childhood. Writers are diligent workers that write to inform, entertain, or persuade people about their business. These workers must work even harder to achieve master’s degrees and writing experience even before they become a writer. They must experience both difficult and wondrous points during this career. Often, salaries and workplaces vary, as do job opportunities and disadvantages. This career fits me because I am extremely creative and enjoy being assigned different topics. I also love writing and directing others.
Writing was my biggest obstacle since I came to United sates, and the problem started when I enrolled in high school. First time, I took evaluation exam for high school. My score was bad. For instance, when I moved from my country to U.S, I was upset and could not have the ability to achieve success in the beginning of my high school. I thought that the high school was hard because English is my third language. Since I started to have friends, it was hard for me to communicate with the people around me. Additionally, Through my education process, I didn't have the intention for applying to any colleges. Then, my family started to help me how to study well and get better grades. They were motivating me to take the ACT exam for colleges. And I began to plan for my future in which I got accepted in Florida agriculture and mechanical University for Pharmacy School. I cannot imagine how I started since I came U.S till what I
Briar and his men stayed at the inn adjoining the tavern that night with the intent to continue their trip the following morning.
I believe that I, as a reader, am paying attention to what I am reading. I try to think and listen to what I am reading. I am observing the who, what, when, where, why, and how, of the material I've read. Another thing I try to do is stay focused. If my mind does begin to wander I take the time to reread it. I know there are several things that I still need to improve. One of my biggest problems are in using comma's when I write my papers. I need to pay more attention to the sentences I write, study the comma rules, and then apply those rules to my writing. I am going to start using the site www.chompchomp.com. I'm praying that this site will help me understand and learn more about the proper way to use comma's. It is very important
I sat and stared at the blank screen in front of me. It was as blank as my mind. I dragged my mouse across the screen deleting my work for the eleventh time. We had been given a writing assignment in English two weeks ago. At first it didn’t seem like a hard assignment, I had never had problems writing before, but here I was, head in my hands stuck with writer’s block. I closed the blank word document, then my laptop. At least Mr. Johansen doesn’t have a due date for things, I thought. When he told us this at the beginning of the trimester, I knew it would be a problem for me because I am a procrastinator. I looked at my alarm clock and read the big red boxy numbers, 12:43. Well at least I will be able to get some sleep, I thought to myself
Ok, so I am Wilhelmina and today I am going to talk about why it is important to write properly. Writing properly is super-duper important you guys, because if we don't write properly, how will people understand us? So I will write about writing properly in 3 way: why we write properly, how to write properly, and writing properly.
Over the years, i realized i've never been good at writing. I recall freshman year going in for lunch and after school to get extra help on essays with my teacher. I there learned how to organize my essays, how to get evidence from the text, and interpret what it means. But i still to this day have many areas to improve and i've set goals to make those weaknesses into strengths.
My biggest weakness as a writer is sentence structure. I used to write simple sentences in my writing with little complex sentences. My peer and instructor had pointed out this problem to me; therefore, I realize the problem is worse in academic writing. To tackle this problem in my next academic writing assignment, I planned to read more academic essay which helps me to know how to write complex sentences for academic
Every child learns differently; some learn easily, and some have difficulty processing the information that is given to them. My parents taught me the basics of reading and writing, they bought me books and letter blocks to form words with. In my experience, it was easy for me to learn how to read, although, my struggles began with writing. I can not put the blame on my teachers, although, they weren’t much help either. That was until I entered Middle School, my sixth grade English teacher changed my whole perspective of the subject.
Daniel was sitting in his dorm when he heard the two voices arguing behind his door. He tried not to eavesdropped, because it was far to common for people to just be arguing in the hall, but Daniel could hear his name and Lucinda’s being mentioned in their heated argument.
Daniel never fully understood why people wore black to funerals, memorials, or even an anniversary to someone's death, until today. It matches how everyone felt inside, cold and dark – Even if you didn't know who had died, you felt the loneliness. Perhaps that's why everyone feels a bit lonely sometimes, perhaps that person they had bumped into at the gas station got into a car accident just down the highway twenty minutes later, or that person you sat next to on the bus was just murdered. You no longer felt their presence.
