I have two questions about this unit, who is placing the items in the tree and who are the items meant for? Scout first found two pieces of Wrigley’s Spearmint gum in the knothole in the tree. She showed off the gum she found to Jem. Then as the two were headed home from school they found two perfectly polished pennies in a fancy box. A couple weeks after they found a ball of gray twine, then the two images of the two kids carved in the soap. And then a couple weeks after that they found the full package of gum, a medal from winning a spelling bee many years ago from when Atticus was a kid. And next up they found a pocket watch that did not work and was on a chain with a pocketknife. I believe that the gifts are for Jem and Scout because there is almost
I selected this book because its the best book I have ever read. I read To Kill A Mockingbird last year and my class wrote an essay about this book, since I already know so much about this book I thought it would be a nice and quick read. I thought it would be a great enjoyment to refresh my memory of this epic book. I watched the movie soon after I read the whole book and it was very fun to pick out the not-placed and wrong-worded parts of the movie. To Kill A Mockingbird is about a sister, brother, and their friend Dill finding items in their neighbors tree, soon after this their father was the lawyer of a case on an african american.
Jem and Scout, throughout “To Kill A Mockingbird,” learn to consider things from other people’s perspectives. Atticus, Jem and Scout’s father, says “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view – until you climb into his skin and walk around in” (Lee 39). They learn this through experiences with their neighbor Boo Radley as they mature beyond their years. At the beginning of the novel, Jem and Scout make fun of Boo and assume that all of the rumors going around about him are true. However, later on in the story the children grow an admiration for Boo and learn to understand him. As they matured, Jem and Scout naturally learned many life lessons of appreciation, respect, and courage
Harper Lee is best known for writing the Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller To Kill a Mockingbird. The novel takes place during the depression in Alabama with the main character, Scout, viewing her lawyer father, Atticus, defending a wrongly accused black man of rape. The reader gets to understand Scout’s childhood view of this controversial situation. Scout’s character in to Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is really the author’s own life playing out in the novel, which is most likely why this novel is thought to be one of the best American Novels of the 20th century.
In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee gives us the character Atticus Finch to give us an example of what courage is through symbolism, pathos, and irony. In this analysis I will talk about about how Atticus’s actions and words all seem to try to teach us something, and that something is courage. We can see the biggest example of Atticus’s courage when he has to talk about Tom Robinson’s case or when he talked to the kids about what Mrs. Dubose was trying to do before her death. Atticus’s courage is the type that allows him to do what he thinks is right even if people don’t agree with him or if it seems hopeless to try. Atticus is also seen trying to pass down his courage and wisdom to his kids throughout the story.
There is one central idea in to kill A Mockingbird, the central idea of the story is how others judged anyone different than them without having information they were prejudiced. This was divided throughout the story as 2 different characters. The first character was Boo Radley he was
Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” is set in a small Southern United States community called Maycomb during the Great Depression era. The whole book primarily revolves around segregation and racism and how it relates to Maycomb’s history. It eventually leads to the trial of Tom Robinson where he is accused of beating up and raping Mayella Ewell. Even though it was clear that Tom Robinson did not do anything wrong he was convicted by an all white jury simply because he was black. The trial of Tom Robinson and its verdict shows an example of how segregation in the court system prevents fair trials from occurring.

Great authors use different literary elements to display their thoughts. To Kill a Mcokingbird, a novel written by Harper Lee, takes place in Maycomb, Alabama, during the years of the Great Depression. The novel focuses on Scout Finch, a 6 year old tomboy, and her brother Jem. They both begin realize all of the social issues, such as rape and inequality, that happens in their community throughout the course of the plot. Many people were racist against black people and judgemental against people who were not like them during this time period in the south but Scout and Jem’s father, Atticus, did not want his children to become influenced by these people. Harper Lee uses literary devices such as characterization, symbolism, and conflict to develop
Despite living in Alabama in the 1930s, Atticus Finch expects his children to treat everyone- regardless of race or class- with respect and dignity. There are many opportunities for Jem and Scout to concede to the Southern stereotypes of the 1930s, but with the guidance of Atticus and their housekeeper, Calpurnia, the children challenge the common stereotypes of the South- with some lessons learned. These stereotypes are based principally on race and social class. Several cases of these stereotypes arise throughout To Kill a Mockingbird. Many racial and social class stereotypes come out during Tom Robinson’s trial as well as during the children’s everyday lives.
Recognizing patterns makes reading complicated literature easier by being able to connect occurring experiences to ones that have happened earlier before. Once these things are recognized, literature takes on a new form. You identify every aspect of a piece of work without having to investigate it. A great example is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. If you didn’t recognize patterns throughout the book before recognizing patterns, you will not see the hidden symbols that add so much volume to the story being portrayed. Not recognizing them means you don’t know the meaning behind the mockingbird and how they represent Tom Robinson’s death. Mockingbirds are as harmless as they can be, representing Tom’s innocence. Lee was comparing a mockingbirds
Southern Gothic is classic genre, with themes like coming of age and outcasts. In To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, it consists of the large variety of themes, such as the power of manipulation. Since manipulation is a powerful topic, many authors include manipulation in their stories, as victims of manipulation are prejudged. Common characters in this book utilized by society are Boo Radley and Adolphus Raymond. Tom Robinson is a colored man; therefore, he is different around whites. Boo, Adolphus, and Tom are victims of prejudice for not following stereotypical roles in a hypocritical town. Judged by something that is odd to the town, as disappearance, marriage, and color. With that, it becomes obvious that the town is a
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird Scout and Jem encounter a multitude of things in their lives that have helped them come of age. One of these things is getting attacked by Bob Ewell as well as learning that Boo Radley wasn’t so iniquitous after all. Although, these things could not have happened without certain literary elements to support and provide background to the situation. I believe these literary elements are symbolism, character, along with conflict.
The LLNB niche is their food because when they are feeding they frequently transfers pollen from one plant to another. This is important because it helps pollinate the cacti and agaves and helps them reproduce. Through its fruit feeding, it also assists in seed dispersal. The LLNB needs the sun, water, food, air, and the temperature.
* Scout’s moral development throughout To Kill a Mockingbird has to do with how she is taught to see “the other”, her exposure to racism and injustice, and that she had Atticus as a parent to guide her through her childhood. These factors together create a stable learning environment for Scout to grow and develop in.
