Once upon a time there was a huge celebration, everybody has been looking forward to this for about a year, this celebration is called mardi gras. Mardi gras will begin tomorrow so every store in new orleans is overcrowded with people from all over the world stocking up on decorations, costumes, and most importantly bead necklaces for when they throw them up in the trees,. Me and my grandaughter own one of the largest celebration stores in new orleans called “ Me + YOU”. We always enjoy peoples faces when they see just the thing that they have been looking for, We love it so much that we paid to have one of our own floats in one of the worlds largest parades running across our streets. You knew when it was getting late when all of the crazy tourist start running down the streets screaming “ no more days!!!! No more days!!!!,“ so I started to head home on my little motorcycle, some people thought it was crazy to see an old granny on a bike but that way i know that i am the coolest grandma out there. I pulled up to my small blue cottage near the shore and caught my family hiding outside and they all yelled
“SURPRISE!!!,” i was so happy to see them but they weren't supposed to show up till tomorrow afternoon.
“ i thought yall were coming tomorrow”
“Well, we found another flight that would land here earlier ,so we came to surprise you.,” said my daughter isabella.
“Yeah,” said Mela my grandaughter” Aren't you happy to see us?”
“Of course,” I said
We talked
"Then be ready my boy, we will be leaving for New York in the evening in our private jet, and we will be meeting jade and her family there" a big smile grew on my face with that dad stood from his seat giving me a wink and left my cabin without waiting for my reply.
Mardi Gras has spread throughout the ages, and will continue to expand. Festive traditions of Mardi Gras have spread overseas to New Orleans, Louisiana, Cadiz, Spain, Venice, Italy, and Rio de Janeiro. In the United States the celebration goes above and beyond. With the parades in New Orleans and the balls in St. Louis, the U.S is full of tradition. Krewes who work behind the scenes plan for months to prepare for the extravagant festival. Along with planning, they gather any thing green, gold, or purple to attach to their floats. All this work leads up to the insane party of a holiday which most people think is incredible and fun. Everyone is invited to celebrate , and to have a good time during Mardi

Waylon and his older brother Jesse were spending another Halloween pounding the pavement. It was getting dark and cold. Mom and dad sat in the minivan across the street as the kids knocked on doors and did their best to scare the residents of Tucson. Waylon was dressed as SpongeBob, while his big brother had dressed up as a pirate. Of course Jesse was the best he told everyone so.
It has always been a tradition in my family to run from the Mardi Gras. Sometimes we would go to Gheens or Raceland to run from them. My heart would always beat really fast when we would hear the Mardi Gras beat there sticks against the trailers that they would ride in. I was always the first one to start running because I was one of the slower ones, but even though I would get a head start, they would still catch me. Last year, my friends and I decided to go to our friends house to take on the Mari gras of Choupic. I will always cherish the memories on Mardi Gras with my friends.
Lafayette Louisiana witch is the capital of the Cajun Country. Has the second biggest Mardi Gras celebration. This celebration has lost its meaning. More of a tourist profit to the state this celebration would be a very hard challenge to get the state to bring its meaning back. In the old days, Mardi Gras was not just the day before Ash Wednesday. It was a day that people rode on horseback or in their trucks going to town’s businesses and neighborhoods. Once the owner of the homes or businesses allowed these people to come in the masked people started to sing, dance, play around or even play pranks on the people who allowed them in. Before the masked people left the begged the owners of the business or home for rice or other things. If they gave them something such as money or things to make a gumbo, they allowed that person to a gumbo feast that was held that evening. And if they did not the masked people would destroy their home or business. They might even mock them for years to come.” This group of masked people was known as classed Les Mardi Gras, or in English the Mardi Gras.” (Ware, 2003) Today Cajun’s don't celebrate it this way anymore. Mardi Gras is considered to be paradise, festivals, drinking and getting as many beads as you can. The masked people can still be seen but not asking for things to make a gumbo or money but as a symbol in the
Now, the mardi gras bead is not with my grandmother any mother. My mom now has the bead in her car. The bead is next to the windows in the front of her car. She keeps it there so everytime someone drives her car, they will be protected and safe. In the future, I also plan on keeping the bead and keeping it in my car. The reason I would keep it in my car is because since I’m a novice driver I need to be watched and protected. I hope that me keeping the bead in my car would inspire my children to keep it
Dancing had long been a backbone of New Orleans nightlife, and Bolden’s popularity was based on his ability to give dancers the music they wanted to swing to. During the nineteenth century, string bands, led by violinists, had conquered dance, offering dancing styles such as waltzes, quadrilles, polkas, and schottisches. By the turn of the century, an instrumentation borrowing from both brass marching bands and string bands was predominant: usually a front line of cornet, clarinet, and trombone with a rhythm section of guitar, bass, and drums (National Park). Dance audiences, especially the younger ones, wanted more excitement in their movement. Since the jazz clubs were being filled with young folk a demand for newer faster music was the challenge
I will use a variety of sources so my information can go in depth. Anyone who will read my research paper will end up becoming an expert in Louisiana’s Mardi Gras traditions. Mardi Gras developed into a festival for everyone to come together and have the time of their lives. I hope to be able to share what I have found over the past few weeks with my audience and the people who read this. If someone who knew nothing about Mardi Gras was to read my paper than I hope they end up knowing everything about Carnival, its foods, colors, festivities, etc. This research paper has enough information to to teach anyone about the meaning of Mardi Gras and its traditions that
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this weather! It has been a busy month at our Lodge and I hope that everyone was able to make at least one of our events. The Blues show had a record attendance and the music was amazing. The Drill team’s St. Patrickson’s Dinner/Dance was also a success. The food, hospitality, and music was great! Thank you Drill team! And finally on Sunday we continued the St. Patrick’s celebration with the parade and potluck. There was a great turnout and the weather was great. These events keep us alive, so if you have ideas or can volunteer, please let us know.
Honor America Night was the last day I got to perform at Abe Martin Stadium. It felt unreal that it was very last time to stand on that turf and dance my heart out with my majorette line. I would never get to look up smiling into the audience and see the friendly faces of all my family and friends supporting us. And to make it worse, the feeling of leaving Lufkin really hit hard when they announced the names of all the seniors. Apart from that, the majorette and band performance went great, and the majorettes pulled the flag perfectly. There were no snags and the flag didn’t even come close to touching the ground. I was very proud of my girls because the flag has never been pulled so smoothly. When I ran under the flag with the other seniors
Every culture has its own rituals and traditions. In North America, they celebrate Halloween where they wear costumes to scare people, and in Central America, especially in Mexico, they celebrate The Day of the Dead. According to Encyclopedia of Food and Culture, “In Mexico, the festival Dia de los Muertos embodies the greatest expression of both popular Catholicism and the national cuisine” (1:505). The long-established practice of Mesoamerica’s Todos Santos is far more involved than Catholicism's traditional observance of the feast. Important practices were incorporated in outlying towns, mestizos, where various cultural backgrounds mingle. These changes to orthodox religious rituals came from many different socioeconomic influences that
New Orleans is a multicultural city, which elucidates the origin of Mardi Gras. It has all to do with the city’s racial order. During Mardi Gras it was common to be dressed up and to mask ones face. The masking hid the face form being seen, and therefore hid someone’s race. This made it possible for Black Orleanais to mingle with white Orleanais.
With Halloween just days away, the festivities are already underway across the city. In a few days, the annual Village Halloween Parade will fill up the streets of Manhattan with costumed costumes but if you’re looking to for an alternative on Halloween night, there’s something cool happening in Times Square.
