The beginning of spring is noticeable now with well-fed roses in bloom; heirloom tomatoes take root promising June fruit. And, Holy week arrived like unexpected tears. Citrus stands alone on the tables of our favorite market fruiterie: oranges, lemons, giant grapefruit look-alike, pomelos, endless sweet or tart clementine and tangelo varieties, and fleeting dangerous looking blood oranges.
So, in honor of bud-break and everything pastel, I created a fancy versatile and creamy lavender salad dressing; a blend of blood orange citrus, miso, red wine vinegar, and oil. The formula is equal parts of each element which means you can whisk enough for a small salad or paddle a boatload to dress a platter of mixed greens, fresh and roasted vegetables
First of all, I thank God that I met you here and had deep conversations with you, and shared about the reality but not the hypocrisy of our lives. Honestly, without you telling me about your real thoughts, I would’ve just assumed that there was nothing going on with your life, and that you were surrounded by many friends who loved you as you were, until I heard your testimony, and until I know the story behind such a friendly and beautiful girl who always smiles. I always think that people are different and some like to party while others like me don’t. Yet you shared about the emptiness and the “friends” you had even when your lived a life of party.
Hi guys! This past weekend we were graced with a much needed fall break. After a few weeks of constant studying, it was nice to have a four day weekend to sit back and relax. After my two tests on Friday I drove seven hours to meet my dad and my girlfriend's dad in Pittsfield Illinois for a few day hunting trip at a lease that my dad has. It was a long drive, but it was worth it when I arrived to a 16oz prime rib at one of my favorite restaurants, the Red Dome. Unfortunately the corn and soybeans had not yet been cut around our farm so we did not see as many deer as usual, but we still had fun and relaxed for a few days.
Fall is right around the corner, this means the ends of summer fruits and vegetables are coming to an end and fall fruits and vegetables are coming out. And just like the summer produce, the falls produce have just as much health benefits to them.
Everything you would expect in a perfect person. Perfect hair, perfect eyes, and a perfect at everything. That was a guy by the name of Drake.
When Thanksgiving Break comes, the last thing anyone wants to think about is family drama, ways of speech, and slang. Days before Thanksgiving, I always find myself studying slang that I have never heard of and singing songs that I would’ve never imagined myself listening to. All to fit in with my family. I rarely see my family, but when I do, I try to make it enjoyable. My family lives pretty far away and we have always been raised in two different environments. I live in Avon, “Home of the rich white kids”, they like to say. They live on the East Side of Indianapolis, “Home of the gang violence and shootings”, I always say back. Though it is the same state, it feels like we have been raised in two different worlds.
In this essay I’m going to tell you about what I did what I did over break, which was go to Colorado. I also received and gave presents throughout my whole family. Also my step sister came down from California to visit.
I was in third grade at the time. It was the Friday before spring break. My mom woke me up in the morning. After she woke me up I got ready for school. Before I got done getting ready for school my mom had to leave for work. I hugged her and told her that I loved her, then she was off to work. When I was done getting ready I went down stairs and ate breakfast. Then I hurried and ran outside with my brothers to where the bus was waiting. The bus ride to school seemed like it took forever. When I got to school I was so happy to see my friends and get to class. The school day seemed like it was only an hour long. It went by so fast. The bus ride home was always the best part of the day besides math class. It only took us fifteen minutes to get home from school.
As I walk out of the gas station and down the ramp. I look down in disappointment and anger. Never wanting to return to our dreadful car ride. I knew what was coming and all I wanted to do was curl up in a tiny ball. I didn't want to hear everyone giggling, because going on this hike was a formidable challenge for me. I laboriously dragged myself to the car. We have been driving for what seemed like a lifetime. We are on our way to a campsite and “the hike of the century.” We had been preparing for this trip for weeks. We had an ample amount of supplies for this trip. Four and a half hours later we had arrived. i tried to ignore the negative stories in my head. Of course the fear of slipping off the trial kept popping in my head. I couldn’t get rid of it. Sluggishly, I followed the big group before me.
When the break started I went home to pack up my things did laundry and tidied up a bit. My mom called because I had her cellular device and asked if we’re on our way. We had a slight conversation and disclosed by telling her I’m leaving. I loaded our things into my car and asked my baby what he wanted to eat before we leave. He didn’t say much so I bought him Mc Donald’s just in case he gets hungry. After I ordered his meal we headed out to the highway and drove to Loon Lake. We arrived at my mom’s; she was outside cleaning her yard. My baby had a jolt of excitement that he tried opening the door. He must’ve been excited because she was outside his way of saying I get to stay outside with grandma. I unloaded our bags from my car and unpacked
Six teenagers set out for a lake house to have fun for spring break. Billy was a smart guy but not many friends, Tommy was a Superstar at everything he does and he friends with everyone. Zack was a dancer that liked to dance and was very popular at school. Trini was a girl but she's was part of the guys. Kimberly was the queen bee at the school and all the guys liked her for everything. Jason was an Athlete that was good and was cool. These kids never would know going out to the lake house would be their last time as ordinary tenneagers. Tommy and Jason would always compete to see who was the best athlete but Tommy always ended up winning. At school, Billy and Kimberly set up a get together where everyone was going to have a spring break. As soon as the bell rang they
Anthony was giving Brendan and I a hard time about his breaks. Every time we would give him a 15 minute break, he didn't want to take it. He kept on asking me when I was planning on giving him his lunch. I didn’t give him a time because last time I did that he argued with me, when I give it to him at a different time than I told him. I tried to give him his lunch 8 pm. He was mad and didn’t want to take it. He said he needs time to order food. I sent him to Gladys because he wasn’t listening to me. Unfortunately, she made me give him another call so he could order food. I disagreed but I still did it.
As I open my front door, the cold breeze outside no longer effects me. I am home where the warmth wraps me up like a child in a blanket. I close the door behind me but as i stand in front of the stair case to the second floor of the house, I cant move. White walls as clean as fresh fallen snow make the expensive vases with bright, radient colors catch my attention. I felt the floor let go of my sunk-in feet, as if it was giving me permission to move towards the vase. My hand wraps around the top of the vase but, I quickly grab the bottom. Afraid of letting it go I tighten my grip keeping it secure but considered the fact that it is a fragile object, the right amount of pressure would make the vase break. I trace each design with my eyes, admiring
"What did he say?” the boy in jeans and a gray t-shirt whispers. I looked up, and my muddy brown eyes met his ocean blue ones. I’d never noticed the flecks of gold that they contain before; I almost drown in the pristine pools before I come up for air. I repeat the speaker’s instructions. “Thanks,” the boy says, flashing me a dazzling smile that makes the room at least five times brighter, if not
I have often wondered what it felt like knowing to overcome a fear of mine, till the day I did. It was a long dark night when I felt the urge to get up and leave the house. I got up and got dressed and left my house, driving in my car. I stopped to obtain a little gas right down the road from my house when I realized a person was standing right behind me, he was as large as the jolly green giant. My heart instantly started beating faster, I have never been more scared in my life. He looked and asked where Red Bud was. After I realized he was asking me where Red Bud was, I got in my car and started driving off. As I got back on the road, I started thinking to myself that it was in Alton and it was in the middle of nowhere, my heart started
Over the break, I made it a challenge to learn Sign Language for my friend. My friend Kayla Hernandez went to a concert over the break in the states. It was her first ever concert. She was so excited to see Shawn Mendes. I was so jealous because I love him so much and she was flying all the way from Texas to Australia just to see him. How Unfair! Lol!
