Johnny had noticed from a distance that the church we had been hiding out in was ablaze and there was a crowd of locals standing around it not doing anything but just staring at the towering flames. Dally accelerated on past the church. “What are you doing?” I shouted, “They may need help we can’t just leave them!” “Are you stupid Ponyboy? What do you think caused that fire, hmm?” “I don’t know it could have been anything.” “No you and Johnny, Ponyboy! You two must have left a butt alight and it must have caught fire and brought the whole place up in smoke! Do you realize what this means Ponyboy? As well as being up for assault, you two can now be charged with criminal damage to that church, you ‘re lucky you only wounded that Soc and didn’t …show more content…
I’m ready to kick some Soc behind” We were all hyped about the rumble; we were all ready to show the Socs what us Greasers were made of. We just had to wait for Dally and Johnny to show and then we would be ready for the rumble. “We’re here!” screamed Dally as Johnny and he entered the house. All of us left the house jumping about even doing somersaults off the front steps, I didn’t try I was never any good at gymnastics. We reached the waste-ground in no time at all where there was another gang fighting on our side, I think. The Socs arrived soon after we did. “How you feeling Johnny? I’m nervous as I’ll get out, but if we stick together we should be all right.” “I’m… worried too. I’m not sure about this Ponyboy we seem to be the smallest here! What if we get hurt… Badly.” “Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold and good luck!! I love ya man!!!” His face became a yellowish white color. The sweat was pouring off Johnny at this point. I’d never seen him like this before. Then I noticed that the Soc that had been there the night we had stabbed the Soc got out of his car and pointed and Johnny and me. My blood ran cold. I began to feel a cold sweat pour off. This was a no-weapons rumble, but if this Soc wanted revenge for his injured buddy then there was no telling what he’d
Finally, Johnny is not justified in what he did and is guilty because Johnny killed Bob, who didn’t cause any physical harm in the fight. Johnny stated that “‘I killed that boy.’ Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still” (56). This states that Johnny killed Bob instead of David, who was the one harming Ponyboy. This means that Johnny must have wanted to harm Bob for what he has done in the past.
Johnny sacrificed his life to save the children from the burning building. Ponyboy risked his life to save the children from the burning building. Johnny feels remorse for killing Bob and decides to go back and turn himself in.
Johnny is portrayed in the novel as fearful and scared because he has been attacked multiple times by the Socs, the Greasers rivals. He also has an abusive home life, described by Ponyboy as “if it hadn’t been for the gang, Johnny would never had known what love and affection are” (page 14) Johnny also shows this through his actions, by flinching at the sight of Bob after he was attacked, or his reaction to when he killed Bob, shocked at himself and pale. Johnny isn’t just seen as fearful though, as in the later chapters he is portrayed as
In S.E. Hinton’s novel, The Outsiders, the Socs and the Greasers have been fighting for the longest time. The Socs had harassed and attacked the Greasers before. The Greasers had enough and decided to defend themselves for the great or good. Johnny is justified in what he did and is not guilty because Johnny was defending himself from Bob, the Socs were after the Greasers in the first place, and the Socs attacked the Greasers long before. Johnny was defending himself from Bob because Bob was the leader of the group.
Johnny shocks Dally by telling him he wants to go back home and confess to his crime. Dally tries to change Johnny’s mind, convincing him not to because if he does he will be going to prison and dally doesn’t want Johnny to see him in prison. Johnny is points out that his own parents would not care what ever happens to him, but Ponyboy’s brothers care about him and don’t want to see him like that. Swearing under his breath, Dally begins to drive Johnny and Ponyboy home. As they drive past the church where Ponyboy and Johnny had been staying, they see that it is on fire. Ponyboy thinks he and Johnny must have started the fire with a cigarette butt, so the boys jump out of the car to check out the fire. When Ponyboy wakes, he is in an ambulance,
When Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally got back to the church, they optically discerned flames shooting up into the air like bullets. They realized it was emanating from the church and there were kids inside, they went in to preserve the little children in the ignited church. “One was screaming his head off, and Johnny yelled, “Shut up! We’re goin’ to get you out!” (92) When Johnny went inside to preserve the children, he was exhibiting heroics and intrepidness. Johnny was going to do anything to preserve those children, even if he might die. He put the incognito children's lives in front of his own. Johnny is a hero because he preserved lives and didn’t care if he got hurt. In that moment of mugginess and burns, he was the most munificent one
In the local town a local church was burning down and three men named Ponyboy, Dally, and Johnny went into the burning church to save 5 children who were inside the church and didn’t know how to escape. When the boys got in there to help the child, the only way that they could escape is by setting the kids out the window and then getting out the window as fast as they could.
This shows that johnny of all greasers, has been beaten up more badly than the others. This also shows that the Socs like to fight and jump the greasers for the fun of it. The greasers don’t like fighting with the Socs because they always get more beat up than the Socs.
After all, Johnny was quite a shy and nervous person who had it rough at
“Would you rather have me living in hideouts the rest of my life, always on the run?” Johnny asked Dally seriously. They were in the car on the way back to the church, and Johnny was gettin’ on Dally’s nerves. He opened his mouth to answer but nothin’ came out when he saw the disaster.
“I gulped and tried so hard not to,” pony said trying not to cry, Ummm that is Johnny.
The events that led up to this was Johnny and Ponyboy were hanging out smoking and drinking and A mustang pulled up and a few Socs got out and went to go fight Johnny and Ponyboy and

“Thanks,” Roy gratefully said, knowing that the people working with Johnny were going above and beyond their job description to make things easier not only on Johnny, but on him and his wife as well. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
"Hey Johnny, you okay?" I asked. He looked up at me for a moment then stared back down.
