For the Comparative Essay, I was to first choose a topic to discuss. Then I am to explain why I chose said topic and compare & contrast the topic. The topic I chose was Original creation of earth (nebular hypothesis vs. six-day creation). In this essay, I will explain what both mean and how they compare to one another and some differences. I will provide arguments based off research done by multiple sources and provide my point of view. Throughout life I have always wondered how things came to be. Growing up in church, we were taught that God created everything we see today in six days and on the seventh day he rested. Of course, at that age your mind works in different ways so you believe it and move on. Well now that I am much older …show more content…
The book of Genesis gives us the following information: Day 1- God created heaven and earth, light and dark. Day 2- Waters and land, Day 3- day and night, Day 4- Sun and stars, Day 5- creatures of land and water, Day 6- God created man to rule and govern over all other creations. (Genesis Holy Bible King James Version). Understanding what the bible says, it is time to compare the two. They are similar because there is once again no historic proof that either can be true. Although all research up until this time has been very convincing there are things that seem contradictive on both ends. Science tells us that clouds of gas cannot compress but only expand, knowing this kind of puts their whole argument to sleep. The six-day creation theory contradicts itself because it says that in the beginning God created the heaves and the earth, light and dark. The contradiction is where it states on Day 3 he created day and night, which was already created in Day 1. So, with this they are alike. They differ because the big bang does not fully explain how all living organisms came about. A comedian by the name of Katt Williams once stated in his stand-up act, “If humans evolved from monkeys what happened to the monkeys we see today, did they just decide not to evolve” (Katt Williams …show more content…
I do agree with the Holy Bible and what it says but we also must understand the Bible is only testaments of those from that time. We may never know the 100% truth about the world and how it came about. It is safe to say that we all believe what makes us feel comfortable in understanding our existence. We try to rationalize what we don’t understand by replacing it with something we can. Science will always try to make sense of things that cannot be explained but exist like we can’t see oxygen but we believe that it is what makes us breathe because science has provided certain research that appeals to our human
but at the same time be so similar. The book of Genesis is a creation story that believes in that God is the creator of mankind and all of life on planet earth. “The World on Turtles Back” is a creation story that believes that all of the resources, food, and life come from two twins and a Sky Woman. “The World on the Turtles Back” says “The woman took the tiny clod of dirt and placed it on the middle of the great sea turtle’s back. Then the woman began to walk in a circle around it, moving in the direction that the sun goes.
As in similarity the Babylonian created light as well. This made a brighter start. On the second day God created the big, blue, sky. As for the Babylonians created more of a dome type creation representing a sky. The third day of creation God makes dry land that come from the water, in that time sprouts plants. This was giving the earth more life. As for the other on that day they took and created dry land as well.
One of biggest mysteries that people have been trying to answer for centuries is, “How was the earth created?” Every culture and religion has a different story that attempts to describe how we came to be. When we pick different creation stories from cultures and religions it’s interesting to see what similarities and differences arise. This paper will analyze some of the similar and different aspects of three different creation stories. The first creation story is described in the Bible in Genesis 1-2:3, the second in Genesis 2:4-24, and the third is the creation story of the Kono people of Guinea called Death, and Life and Death.
1. One way the two creation stories are similar is that the order of creation is in the same order in both stories. In Genesis, after God made the heavens and earth, he created the sea and sky, followed by the fish and the birds. The “World on the Turtles’ Back” followed the same pattern except in the beginning there was a “sky world” where the god’s lived (38). This is most likely another similarity, because the “sky world” and Heaven were probably the same thing.
To begin with, the main similarity in these stories was the divine creation of the world and of humans. In the Genesis account, God created everything out of nothing, which started with the creation of the heavens and earth (Gen. 1:1 NIV). Succeeding these creations, God continued to add things to the earth, which included day, night, land, water, vegetation, and also living creatures (Gen. 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,26).
In order to explain creation, the Hebrews follow what the bible says and turn to God. Within this culture it is said that God created the world in seven days. During these seven days, God created the light, sky, land, oceans, plants, sun, moon, stars, birds, fish, sea creatures, land animals, and people. On the seventh day God rested and looked down in amazement at all he had created. Today, people worship God and follow his ten commandments in their lives. Even though there are many new religions that have branched off
The first thing he created was light, but of course there was still darkness, but the light and the dark were separated. Light was called “day”, and dark was called “night”. He made the sun to rule the daytime. For the night He made the moon and the stars.
The view of God is different. In the first account God is more transcendent whereas in the second He is immanent. The formation of creation is different between the two accounts. For instance, in the second account man was created, the animals, and then a woman. “In the second account no mention is made of seven days, heavenly bodies, or divine rest.
There are several different theories as to how the earth came to be, there are similarities and differences with some of them. It is very clear that there are indeed differences in the stories, along with similarities. Many people are familiar with the Christian Bible version; the earth was created in seven days, Adam was created then Eve from his rib. However, not nearly as many people have heard of the Sky World creation story. Both stories have a tree with something forbidden about it.
The opening chapter of the bible, known as the Genesis, begins with the words “In the beginning God created the havens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). The text tells us that the earth was formless, empty, and dark. The Bible reveals that God made the world and all that is in it out of nothings. He spoke His Word, and everything came into existence. According to Genesis 1, God created the earth in six days. On the first day, God created the light. On the second day, He created the firmament called heaven. On the third day, God created the dry land in the midst of the lower waters. On the fourth day, He created the sun, the moon and the stars. One the fifth say, He created the fish and all the other living creatures in the oceans and the lakes. On the sixth day, God created the land animals and man. He created man in his own image and placed man in charge of the animals. The seventh say, God rested from His work of
This narrative, which describes how God created the universe in six days, can be found in the first few paragraphs of the Bible. It is said that on Day One, God created the heavens and the earth and allowed there to be light upon the earth. God then allowed a separation of waters above from the waters below on day Two; this separated the skies and the seas. On the third day, God formed dry land and allowed the earth to sprout vegetation. God then allowed the heavenly lights to appear on the earth on Day Four. On Day Five, God created animals to inhabit the earth. The sixth and final day of creation of the universe saw God creating other animals such as carnivores and humans to inhabit the earth as well (The literal interpretation of the Genesis One Creation account, 2007).
The Greek and Genesis creation stories resemble each other in many ways but also they have their differences too. Imagine two stories that come from two different places could have so many similarities, but it also has it’s differences.
When finding differences and similarities, I found could be done with some critical thinking, let start with how the earth came about. In the bible everything starts with God creating the earth, once God, god then created light he saw this was good and he the separated day from night, this became known as the first day. When the Cherokee’s story on how the earth was made starts a little bit different, but the ideal of outcome is the same but instead of the work being done by the Judaism’s ideal of who God is, the earth was created by animals. First the water-beetle brings mud from the depths of the ocean to the surface, and the buzzard who is looking for day land beings to get tired and starts hitting the ground crating valley’s and mountain’s.
In six days God created the universe, the earth, and every living thing on it. This includes human beings, who were made in Gods own image. God created Adam and Eve to have an unobstructed relationship with him, He placed them in a paradise called the Garden of Eden and gave them freedom to live in friendship and trust with him. God saw that everything he created was good and He rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2). God left Adam and Eve in the garden with specific instructions: they are NOT to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Although science explains much about life and the universe, some people choose to believe religion.
