Negative thoughts make us feel down and gloomy. We all know that negativity will destroy us, but we still do it- we think negative, and we behave negatively. To a certain extent, we all worsen our situations just by taking things to another level in our minds. And even though we know that it 's not helping us, we still somehow find ourselves stuck in the spiral of negative thoughts that recur again and again, following different patterns.

Use breathing techniques
After every few minutes, pause your work and just breathe. Concentrate on your breathing and feel yourself breathe. Enjoy the goodness of things that surround you. If you do this often, you will be more in touch with your inner self and feel tremendous energy, which will purify any negative thinking.
2. Keep a log about negative thinking
Carry a notebook with you. Whenever you feel that you are experiencing a negative pattern, just note it down along with whatever thoughts you are having and the cause behind them. Then after a couple of weeks, sit down and go through that notebook. Try to find some common themes that encourage negative thoughts in you. This will make you more aware about yourself.
3. Do stuff that you like
Take some time out from your schedule and enjoy your life a bit. Do things that make you happy. Everyone wants to be happy, but they mostly can 't find time for it. Take a vacation this weekend, go for long walks in the park, go out for dinner or movie, or get a relaxing massage. Just slow down the pace and give yourself some peace of mind.

The article “Happiness: Enough Already” declares that, “Studies show that when you are in a negative mood,” says Diener, “you become more analytical, more critical and more innovative” (Begley 456). Which proves that the happier one is the more absent minded they are; whereas when one is negative one is more likely to think before doing. According to “Don’t Worry, Be Gloomy” it states, “When we’re overly cheerful, we tend to neglect important threats and dangers” (David 124). There is something called being “too happy” meaning one experiences extreme levels of happiness and when one has these extreme levels that person tends to take riskier actions that would harm themselves or others. As the article continues it states, “Our so-called negative emotions encourage slower, more systematic cognitive processing” (David 124). Meaning that one would acknowledge and recall the more important details instead of following the interpretations and judgments of a situation from others. Therefore, the negative emotions actually help people get through their situations or life in general.
Thinking positively can be a difficult task, no matter the circumstance. When negativity fills you up like helium in a balloon you should always try to find the light in the darkness. Thinking positively doesn’t make the hard times disappear, it helps you survive negativity and the daily conflicts that challenge you. Looking on the bright side of things increases attentiveness, improves your ability to think, and leads to happier thoughts (Psychology Today). No matter what you are going through, you should always stay optimistic. “Man’s Search for Meaning” and “Dear Miss Breed” are great examples of how having a bright outlook can help you survive conflict.
For example, I attend college and I have to write this essay, struggling to get ideas out of my head. I always tell my parents that school is difficult and I want to quit college. They tell me this isn’t the right way to think of college, of course it will be tough, but it takes you to a better future. Without the knowledge of positive thinking, there would be so much negativity and people struggling to find definite answers to their own questions and concerns.
Just think that somebody else in the world is having a harder time then you. So be thankful for all the little things. “What happened?!” , “Call an ambulance!” . “Then it was just me on my knees next to Mr. Pignati.”
There are many different views on positive thinking whether it is to be positive all the time as suggested by the film The Secret, be a realist and don’t be delusional as stated by Barbara Ehrenreich in her speech “How Positive Thinking Undermines America”, or just be somewhere in between such as a person who is optimistic but not to the point where they expect something they want to come out of the blue, they have to work for it.
The negative triad consists of negative views of the self, the individual’s world and the future. If the individual constantly has negative thoughts about themselves, their world and the future, they will develop a sense of hopelessness because they might begin to think that nothing they do will ever be right. Thus, major depressive disorder can occur. Furthermore, if the individual can remember only negative feedback, no matter how small, they will fail to remember the positive things that have occurred. Some people need to learn how to be good and not always be negative. When you think of a bad situation you need to look on the bright side of what can happen. Stay in a joyous mood. If you are always in a good mood and spreading joy, there is no way to be negative. You will always be looking on the bright side seeing how fortunate you are. This will keep a smile on your face showing that you are truly happy. Also, help others around you to be in a good mood. This will help you connect with others.
Negativity is everywhere in your daily life like school, work place, or just in public. It is a disease and it’s contagious which is why you need to cut it out of your life. I used to be the happiest person, but the negativity got to me and just took it away from me. I didn’t do anything about it nor took control of my own happiness. Which is why I know negativity is contagious and there is people out there who want to bring you down with them. In a sense that they aren’t happy, so they don’t want to see anyone else happy. They usually lack self-esteem, aren’t happy, or feel trapped with their feelings. They want to manipulative people to get what they want.
IF WE DO NOT THINK POSITIVE, OUR THOUGHTS WILL BE LIKE HEAVY DARK CLOUDS HIDING THE SUN AND THE SKY, MAKING THE DAY LOOK GLOOMY AND THREATENING.
So, when a problem or negative feeling/event occurs in your life follow the pattern: Can you control it? If not, stop thinking about it and if yes, focus on the solution.
