Introduction – 45 to 60 seconds Audio Larry was talking to his friend Nevin about the book they just finished in English class. “That was the worst book I have ever read,” said Larry. “I don’t know,” said Nevin. “I kind of liked it. I thought the plot and characters were really unusual.” “No way!” replied Larry, What could you have possibly liked about that story? The main character, Josie, seemed so rude and mean to other people.” Nevin thought about it and replied, “I don’t think so. I think she was so upset because he sister ran away that she was having trouble expressing her emotions.” “As a matter of fact, I think she just wanted to make friends that she could talk to. She just didn’t know how to approach other teenagers.” “Well,” said …show more content…
In an opinion, there is no right or wrong answer. Both of them made good points! Build on Introduction – 25 to 35 seconds An opinion is a person’s thoughts and feelings about something. Jillian and Mark went to see the new shark movie. They had waited for weeks for it to be released! The movie began with a surfer coming face-to-face with a giant shark. They gasped in surprise and fear. For the rest of their movie, they were on the edge of their seats. The movie contained one shocking event after another. As they left, both Mark and Jillian, gushed about the movie. Mark said, “That was probably the best shark movie ever made!” Jillian agreed. Jillian gushed, “I cannot wait for the sequel. That movie was scary and romantic all at the same time. What a fantastic movie.” Build on Clip B – 25 to 35 seconds Audio Jessa wrote an article for the school paper about the terrible lunches that were served in the school cafeteria. Her article created an uproar among the students. Some students loved the article but some disagreed with her statements. One student, Joe, had worked hard with the cafeteria to improve the school lunches. He was outraged by her
The behavior at lunch is strange, especially on fridays. The kids are stuck in class for five periods and they finally get free for thirty five minutes. All the kids yell at each other from across the cafeteria. A lot of kids screaming and the boy screaming like little girls. Not many of the kids are quiet and good. Some of the quiet kids quoted that “They are lucky to get of lunch alive”.
When the film started with a suspenseful 911 call, that drew the audience in. On the phone the unidentified male said, “We need SOA to respond for a death in the SeaWorld. There’s a whale who ate one of the trainers.” The quote was referring to Dawn Brancheau’s accident with the 12,500 lb, 34 year old, 22 feet long Orca whale. The Brancheau accident happened on February 24, 2010.
John Williams excellently used his talent to create a score that captured the mood to be conveyed in each scene. This was very important to the movie due to the fact that the mechanical sharks to be used in the films often did not work. Moreover, Spielberg had to come up with many ways to convey the shark’s presence without actually showing the shark. One of the results of this dilemma was the perfect film score. The main theme is so memorable, that even today when people hear it, they automatically associate it with a shark.
“Jaws invented that form of pleasurable entertainment exactly 40 years ago this week, opening on June 20, 1975. It also launched the career of Steven Spielberg and turned sharks, in the popular imagination, from fish into monsters” (Marche). It is truly amazing how Spielberg was able to accomplish such a task in being able to change billions of peoples’ view on one aspect. One film created how a shark can be viewed as a surviving animal living in the ocean on one day and a vicious, man-eating killer the next. The suspense that is used throughout the film had an impact on many movies today; directors today use the cuts and ideas that resemble attacks under water or scenes out in the ocean. The huge explosions and surprising shark attacks have given directors a new view on filming and cinematography. The effect this film had not only influenced the audience but also Spielberg and various
Clenching teeth, defined facial bone structure and fine dentistry; the title of Steven Spielberg’s classic film Jaws paints quite a mental picture for its viewers with many possibilities. Along with the title, the original film poster used to promote Jaws was visually colorful and terrifying all at the same time. The poster indicates an oversized great white shark lurking in the dark depths of the sea, looking up towards the surface at a swimmer. Waiting and watching, the imagery of the poster gives the viewer the feeling that the shark is waiting for just the right moment to attack with its powerful bone-crushing jaws. What makes this film so interesting and captivating is that for over half of Spielberg’s film the protagonist, the shark, is nowhere to be seen. The way Steven Spielberg incorporates and mixes powerful and suspenseful music with his brilliant editing of the film, as well as the composition, allows viewers to believe there is an actual shark, even though the shark is out of sight.
“My sergeant taught me to be prepared for every situation,” John said, and Luc’s story was that he quit diving after that night. Once when we were fishing, he told me he didn’t like diving with people, and he was too old to dive alone anymore. Whenever he felt restless, he rented ‘Jaws’. As he viewed the shark attack in the beginning of the movie, he remembered how happy he was to reach the beach. That scene calmed him, but the sharks made him think of his wife.
I personally thought this film was quite touching, and beautifully presented by Stewart. This was because of the extraordinary shots captured under water of Stewart holding sharks in his arms and of the life undersea. Also that the film was quite emotionally appealing because of the shots of poachers cutting off the fins of sharks and just throwing them off in the water to die. I agree with all the views Stewart has on this and regret that “I hated being afraid” (Stewart) of sharks because of the myths I had in my mind. Some of the other views I agree with Stewart are that Shark finning should be made illegal or banned all over the
However, an analysis of the story carefully, shows that there are clues in the story that reveal that Larry?s family is not as good as the reader imagines. The reader also finds that the mother of Larry?s family actually wants a husband and a son who share some of the "bully" qualities that Joe?s family has.
Jarrett J. Krosoczkas speech is one that appeals to emotion by feeling sympathy for lunch ladies. He wants everybody to feel how he felt when he saw his old lunch lady at his old school. The speech makes everyone want to go and hug their old lunch lady. “ I was setting up my slide projector in the cafetorium, In looked across the room, and there she was: my old lunch lady” (Krosoczka 1). Everyone appreciates them for what they do for the school. The lunch ladies feel more special and loved by everyone.
Akemi got to school. The school fortunately gives breakfast to the students, but the food was unsatisfactory. That was an overstatement to the teachers, but why would they care when they either ate at home or brought their own breakfast. The same problem with the breakfast is present with the lunch. Akemi is happy he at least brings his own lunch. Other kids aren’t so lucky.
Comment: I found this film very tough going- it is undoubtedly a well made film and has some clever and quirky moments. However I lost interest around halfway through the film and could not engage with the film and its clunky style. A lighter touch would have made a huge difference to the viewing experience. Perhaps as an artistic statement it deserves more than three stars but as a movie going experience it was only a little bit better than average.
“Hell, no, but considering your circumstances, I don’t think you have the right to be picky about your friends.”
It was a breathtaking movie and knew I had to do a review on it. The heart wrenching thriller is definitely a movie that will keep you at the edge of your seat with never a dull moment.
Over lunch, nothing seemed to be all too out of the ordinary. Daniel was a bit of a gourmet and tended to bring his own lunch, while Autumn was more okay with the quality of the school lunches. If the superintendent 's own daughter was fine with eating the school lunches, then it had to be half decent.
That his words were an echo of her own were bound to annoy her, but he did not care. She deserved that little rebuke, not that anything mattered now except that the quest might still be fulfilled.
