It’s the first days of a new school year, professional development days, and you finally get to meet your new principal. It’s almost like going on a blind date. That is if the principal is a “new guy”, unlike a “homegrown” principal, that would be like dating someone you have been knowing for years. No matter what, everyone in the situation is nervous. The “new guy” and the “homegrown” both have things they will inherit with this new found relationship. They both come with their own set of beliefs (culture), and their own goals, values, and teaching and learning practices (climate). Whether you are a “new guy” or “homegrown”, you will have limitations that may prevent you from making the best decisions that will benefit the school. As
This is a case study analysis of The New Principal: Managing Human Resources by Jane A. MacDonald (2006). This case study focuses on issues a first year principal may face when entering her school for the first time. Ms. Vera Zola was not only a first year principal; she was also new to the school district. In her previous role as assistant principal, she was in a neighboring school district. In her new district, the Suburban Public School District (SPS), there were approximately 11,000 students enrolled (MacDonald, 2006). Ms. Zola was assigned to Roma Elementary, one of six elementary schools in the district. There were two middle schools and two high schools. Approximately 80% of high school graduates continued on to higher education or a trade school. Community members had diverse cultural backgrounds and lifestyles, and the community was growing.
I am an engineer. I was in highschool once and didn’t know how to school myself. I would ask myself and others, should I go to trade school or to college. Somehow, nobody’s help actually helped me because they weren’t engineers and didn’t have the perspective i was looking for. So i went to the internet for help. i searched anywhere from, “ trade school vs. college’ to “ Where should i go if i want to have the best schooling for engineering”. I couldn't find any help, any real help at least. So i decided that i will ask people from all around my field if they would write review on how they became the engineer they are now and how they chose their schooling.
When I arrived for my interview at Tunica Middle School for the seventh grade math teacher position, I was asked the usual questions about strengths, weakness, and my previous work experience. In turn, asked questions about teacher expectations. The teaching position was open in February. However, I believe it was the perfect opportunity for Mr. Newson, the principal, to divulge and share his vision for the school. He did not. Mr. Newson did not display many of the Envisioner traits in my first year.
In addition, the past several years have seen recent changes to administration at both schools. Three years ago the long-time middle school principal retired and a new principal was hired from outside the district. This principal was surprised at the lack of collaboration between the schools and would like there to be more. Last spring, the long-time principal of the high school passed away after a battle with cancer that brought the entire community together. The high school’s assistant principal, who was acting principal during the principal’s medical leave, was hired as the principal. He, too, seems ready to build better collaboration between the schools. Now seems to be a great time to begin the collaboration that is needed between the two schools.
Their eyes met from across the room, and any student paying close enough attention could see the loathing in the teacher’s eyes as the principal walks into the room for the bi-semester teacher evaluation. In the blink of an eye the teacher returns her focus back on the students, but the obvious exchange between the two individuals makes those of us in the classroom that understand the source of the icy gaze extremely uncomfortable. My teacher hates the principal with a passion. Ever since the principal assumed control of the school three years prior to this particular evaluation, she terrorized my band director. Through micromanaging, criticizing relentlessly, organizing meetings incessantly, and sabotaging schedules, my principal fostered a hate from not only my band director, but also from the majority of teachers in my high school. The attitude and leadership techniques utilized by my former principal directly contradicts current theories of the scholarly community on how to effectively lead a school.
Ever since Mr. Idowing became the new principal everything’s tightened up around here. You walk in with anything out of the ordinary and he knows.
With Mr. DeVaughn having recently retired, a situation has arisen to myself and to the other members of this board; we must begin the search for a new principal of Saltillo High School (SHS). This will, however, not be as simple a task as one might think, as we cannot simply select any random individual. We must choose the individual who is most fit for the job of running a school such as ours, and I was lucky enough to have the privilege of being the student who was selected to voice my opinion on this matter. I believe that I speak for the entire student body when I say that the new principal must possess specific qualities if he or she is to get the job and excel in his or her position. I believe that I speak once again for the rest of my fellow students when I say that we must select an individual who will best represent SHS as a whole: someone who has professionalism, who has moral values, and who has ambition.
We all want the safely for others like how polices man are supposed to protect people, but what happens when that peace is broken between cops and citizens. Like one family walking down the street and one day stopped by police and forced to stay on the and if you run they they will use police brutality on you. Well here is a story about something like that there was a boy and his brother going to a soccer event in france, as they were walking they were stopped by france's police because his brother Bagui was wanted for extortion case. When both of them ran both of them were being hunted but the police but they found adama first and three officers beat adama to death literally to death after the officer stopped they checked his pulse to see if he was still breathing and he was not but at the end of the day his brother was found
According to a survey conducted by the American Osteopathic Association, 72% of Americans experience occasional loneliness, with 33% saying it is a weekly occurrence. With this many people feeling lonely on a somewhat regular basis, it’s clear that at one point or another, everyone has experienced being an outsider. Many people may not want to think that they ever could have been considered an outsider, but there are a lot of reasons why this experience is actually universal. One of the main reasons that cause everyone to be an outsider at is that every single person has things about them that make them different, even though these things aren’t usually bad. People can be extremely similar to one another, but there are still parts of their personality or their appearance that separate them
Our Principal at Peoria Notre Dame High School allows change. My grade school principal hadn’t changed a thing, during my time in grade school. Mr. Simmons brought new traditions to school. For example, recognizing all the sports and clubs after school mass for their accomplishments. He hired new and younger faculty members, to create a better environment for young people.
The beginning of the Hollister High School 2014-2015 school year began like many of the previous school years, with new administrators being introduced to the instructional staff. The new principal made a covenant with the staff. He promised to be a leader who will stay in the building and finish whatever he started. The new instructional leader was promoted from assistant principal to the principal’s chair. In an effort to gain credibility with the staff in terms of following through with his promise to stick around until he is able to realize his vision, he built a house in the area. The building leaders in the past did not live in the district and their children were not enrolled in the Hollister R-V School District. Now that he was
The documentary “The Principal Story” focuses on the leadership qualities and behaviors of two principals as they navigate through a single academic year. Although the demographics of the schools may at first appear to be vastly dissimilar, upon closer review of the clientele served by each school, the only stark contrast is the race of the students. Both schools are located in impoverished communities and both principals face similar challenges as they lead their schools in striving for both academic and social success.
I’ve had quite the learning experience over the last few weeks. I had a chance to obtain valuable information and support from my principal. I learned so much about the administration role and how difficult it can be. When I began my interview, I felt overwhelmed and excited at the same time. My principal is also my mentor; she has been very supportive of me pursuing my dreams to be in administrator. As I conducted my interview I learned so much about the principal’s role. I asked my principal a series of questions. The questions were based on the Interstate School Leadership Licensure Consortium Standards (ISLLC). My first question was based on educational programs. The educational programs at any school need balance. While we live in a test results world, there needs to be a balance of focus. I look at the type of student I want my school to produce and I surround myself with a faculty and other staffs that not only share in the mission, but also will help every student succeed. In addition, as an administrator, I need to provide my faculty and staff with the tools and resources necessary to make everyone feel successful.
The principal’s role in developing positive community relations sets the tone for communication patterns, partnership formation and/or alienation (Fiore, 2013). There are many tasks that the principal has that is important to school and community relations. Some of those are being a good listener, diplomatic and tactful and all situations. They also have to promote the open door policy to be free to communicate with students, parents, and their staff. They also have to inform the superintendent and community about good and bad things that are
The principal must have knowledge and understanding of effective communication strategies when collaborating with staff, educators, and students (O 'Connor & Jackson, 2017). The teacher’s morale is ultimately impacted by the principal 's open-line of communication; therefore, the school environment affects how the principal is perceived by the teachers and staff morale can influence student learning. However, the principal should focus on developing a collaborative relationship among the teachers, which foster new ways of exchanging view points and ideas (Whyte & Karabon, 2016). The principal plays a major role in how effective the vision or goals are followed by subordinates. In other words, how the perception of the principal ethical and values are aligned with the teachers. Hence, collaboration in schools is, the result of teachers and principals working together for the end results, which are student’s high achievement in learning. When the skillful principals and the sagacious educators “walk the talk” effective leadership and the strategic guidance is a must in the collaborative community of succeed.
