Each group of people in the world has endured hardships by the hands of there people and African americans are not different. The history of african americans in the united states have been all but a good one. These people have a history of being forcibly removed from their native homeland to go work and help build a foreign land that was not theirs. The movies “Having Our Say” was a film about two african american women telling their history of growing up in the southern part of the united states during the Jim crow era. It shows the resilience that black people have come to develop over time. It shows the two sisters that live with each other and how their lives were. The same discriminations criminals and felons face are the same ones black people have experienced. It was pointed out that all of the outward racism and discriminatory practices are looked down upon and more covert. A person can be denied many things such as jobs based on their race or ethnicity, but the denial of jobs and many other rights are discriminatory practices which are deemed ok when is based on a criminal record. It shows the plight of the African American male on a racial but not racial discrimination. It is considered not racial when the men of color are being discriminated against because now the police and judges make these people disproportionately incarcerated and killed by law enforcement. So now it has turned into where we do not have the moral dilemma of discriminating on race because technically it is not about that. They are now considered bad people because of their criminal history even though it has been noted that law enforcement officers target black males in poor neighborhoods and that men of color have harsher sentences than their white male counterparts on all chargers no matter how petty the crime. The coercion tactics used to to keep the slaves in line were awful, and the slave codes as well as supreme court decisions made it so that these living and breathing human beings were no more important than any other piece of household property. African Americans have had just a blip of freedom within the history of the United States and have had to endure much longer and terrorizing times before arriving at the freedoms that they enjoy today. It is noted though that the people still face the same discrimination but on a more modern scale with a twist in a more covert and systematic
