Introduction: With all major cities in the world, such as: New York City, Tokyo and Paris, comes a exceptional transit system. Whether its is subways, buses, light rail transit (LRT) or a combination of the above, they all perform a crucial role in transporting people from one destination to the next. Since opening in 1954, Toronto’s Transit Commission, also known as the TTC, has a system that just about cover every part of Toronto, with 4 subway/rapid transit lines, 143 bus and 11 streetcar routes in 2015, (TTC, 2015). Unfortunately, the TTC is still plagued with many problems, such as: unexplained delay and overcrowding, which decline the riderships and revenues (Curry, 2016; Hume, 2016). Furthermore the population of the greater toronto area (GTA) is expected to grow in the upcoming years, Toronto’s transit system would not be ready for the increase in capacity (CrosstownTO, 2014). Therefore in order to increase the transit system’s capacity and make it more appealing, more LRT/Bus lines would need to be built in the GTA due to their constructability, benefits to society and the environment, flexibility in suburbs and their low risks in meeting ridership goal.
Constructability

The town of Halton Hill’s population includes the areas of Georgetown and Acton and other communities such as Erin, Oakville, Burlington and Milton regions. This is what is considered to be my community because these are the many places that I am visiting most often and they are always referred to together as “Halton Hills Region” (p.5, 2011). With the substantial increase in population in the Halton Hills region, more specifically Georgetown, there should be a strong demand for a public transit system to counteract all of the environmental disturbances that are being caused due to this increase. One of the things that is happening is that there are so many trees they are cutting down in order to expand and grow the population with houses being built. Statistics are showing that the population of Halton Hill’s region will expand by 54% over the next 20 years (p.5, 2011). By the year 2031, employment rates will increase by 75%, leaving Halton with 42,100 jobs being offered (p.5, 2011). With this rapid influx of citizens, this will only increase the demands of travel to get to these work places as well as other destinations (p.5, 2011). Over the past couple of year’s the traffic congestion on the major roads in Halton Hills such as Trafalgar Road and Regional Road 25 with individuals trying to get to and from work. There used to be very little traffic in these areas, however since Halton Hill’s has continued to expand, the utilization of automobiles has significantly increased due to the fact there is no public transit system. The city of San Antonio, Texas is a fast-growing metropolitan city that has a very tremendous amount of people. It has been estimated that the city will grow by another million people in the next ten to twenty years. San Antonio’s traffic is becoming a huge issue and is quickly approaching to be one of the most congested areas in the states. The public transport in San Antonio consists of a very complex bus system, taxicabs, Trolley’s downtown, and the growing market of ridesharing drivers. San Antonio has had many talks and negotiations throughout the last two decades on getting a Light Rail system constructed to help with public transportation. This proposal is for specific businesses, the city of San Antonio and Bexar County to come to a funding agreement.
Improving transit will reduce commute time and amount of cars on the road. Toronto is ranked 47th worst traffic in the world. This means that Toronto has a real traffic problem. Everyday people in Toronto travel to places using public transportation. Without public transportation, we wouldn’t be able to go to places that are far away from us. We needed them in our everyday life but there are key problems that surfaces when using public transportation. Public transportation may seem convenient but for others it may not seem ideal for them from certain circumstances such as the cost, lack of transportation in a certain area and the delays. These make people not want to ride a public transportation which is why Toronto should improve on the public transportation to make the best interest for the people.
Traffic in downtown Austin, Texas is becoming a sever issue and is continuing to become slower and more congested every day. Austin ranks 4th on a list of U.S. cities with the least efficient roadways, and with its remarkable growth rate, the issue can only get worse. After reading numerous articles based on opinions and statements from local city planners and engineers, the best way to see an improvement in the traffic issue is to increase the amount of public transportation in the Austin area. The increase of public transportation would provide fast travel time and would help reduce the amount of money, commuters and locals use on gas by a substantial amount per year. Though many may argue the that we have enough public transportation already, reducing the number of personal vehicles on the road would decrease the amount of bumper to bumper traffic experienced on a daily basis, as well as increase the options for those commuting to the city every day. there are many possible solutions, such as widening the highways or even building them underground, these solutions however are not the most economically correct and productive way to relieve traffic downtown.
The Greater Golden Horseshoe is one of the fastest growing areas in Canada and the third fastest in North America. Modes of transportation and congestion due to the mass growing population has put stress on many people within the area. Additionally, 100000 people and approximately 80,000 jobs will be created yearly for the next 20 years (Transportation, 2016). The GTA West Transportation Corridor is a new initiative for the Golden Horseshoe area that will be able to cope with the growth of the areas involved. Because of this widespread project, many stakeholders are involved and are going to be affected.
The Junction Gardens Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a small highly circulated art district that runs along Dundas Street West. It can be found northwest of Bloor Street and Yonge Street and is easily accessible by a variety of transportation forms. Over the last few decades South-Central Ontario has progressed from a Toronto based employment industry to a large geographic region with numerous amount of economic activity centres, employment and population (Transportation development strategy report, 2012). Due to the high increase in urbanization and urban sprawl, there is a high travel demand that is very dispersed throughout the GTA. Future population and employment growth in major urban centres will result in an increase in travel demand for both local communities and movement of goods between the areas located within the Golden Horseshoe (Transportation development strategy report, 2012).
I believe that, it should be considered carefully, so that tax payers’ dollars aren’t wasted. Also, the disruption of the beauty of the downtown area would be avoided. I do believe that serious thought should be given to the implementation of the LRT route. All of the pros and cons of the LRT should be discussed and they should examine if it’s beneficial to build or not to build.

The purpose of this research paper is to critically analyse the issues of delay in the NAIT LRT project. This project was initiated on September 6, 2015, which was supposed to be in 2014. Public transportation is serious need of a massive overhaul in this nation. We are in desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe, citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the government to where ever they need to go. They have set a model that the United States needs to strive for and meet in the near future.
