To take pictures and video of his surfing skills he attached a 35mm camera to the palm of his hand with a rubber band. He watched other amateur photographers who also wanted to catch quality action photos of themselves, have the same problems with not getting close enough or not able to find good equipment at a great price. This trip became his inspiration to found GoPro. First he designed a belt that attaches the camera to the body. To finance the business Woodman, with the help of his future wife Jill, started selling inexpensive souvenirs along the California coast for a huge profit. They made $30,000 and got a $35,000 loan from his mother. She also let him borrow her sewing machine, so he could work at redesigning camera straps. The additional $200,000 his dad loaned him helped with mass production costs. He cruised along California’s coast in a Volkswagen van, selling his matchbox camera to surf shops and promoting at trade shows. His product’s reputation grew and so did his loyal customers. It was a 35mm camera designed to withstand powerful surf, bike crashes and other mishaps. The cameras are mounted on helmets, bike handles, surfboards and snowboards of both weekend warriors and professional athletes including Olympian Shaun White, surfer Kelly Slater and skydiver Felix Baumgartner (Forbes,

Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his essay “Defending Against the Indefensible,'; outlines seven concepts that can be used to aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. He describes how modern teaching methods leave a student vulnerable to the “prejudices of their elders';, further stating that a good teacher must always be skeptical. He urges teachers of all subjects to break free from traditional teachings as

It all began in Forth Worth, Texas on June 9, 1964, when Mr. and Mrs. Tisdale celebrated the welcoming of their third baby boy entering the world of curiosity. With the biggest smile ever, from there his parents knew something about Wayman. That God has something big planned in his future that will change his and his parents live, but his parents didn’t know how big. Suddenly, a loud church bell sounded the whole street, herded in like a herd of cattle everyone to Friendship Baptist Church to hear the word of God be spoken by Dr. Louis L. Tisdale. Cries erupted from the congregation from the Holy Ghost spreading from the tongue of one powerful man. Exclaiming how wonderful God is, and is promised for a better life. Little did the Tisdales know how powerful this statement would be to their lives.
Living in a world where governors, politicians, presidents, councils and others are placed in a certain position to help sustain control of a certain area are quite important. Politicians have a say in how the country runs, councils help with the local government, and presidents find ways to please others by treaties and help the countries who are in need plus find ways to trade with other countries. Overall, they try to keep most things intact. They all have an important position in their job as well as a governor. A governor can do some things that a president cannot do. However, each position has a short term to refrain from getting too much power.
Nick Carraway, The Great Gatsby’s narrator, grew up in a family of well-to-do people in Chicago, and his family has a little fun tradition of calling themselves the descendants of the “Dukes of Buccleuch,” even though they actually made their money two generations ago in the “wholesale hardware business” (Fitzgerald 7). He went to Yale; he likes literature and considers himself one of the “limited” specialists known as a “well-rounded man”; he also fought in World War I, which he found kind of exciting; and now he’s moved East to work in the finance business in New York City.
I am Todd Sandman. I am very shy and I like to stay behind the scene. I really don’t like reading and writing. I do not like to do physical labor and I would hate to have to go in front of a lot of people. I would much rather talk to people one on one because i’m much better when i’m not pressure by a lot of people watching me mess up.
On page 11, Postman quotes Niels Bohr as saying, "The opposite of a correct statement is an incorrect statement, but the opposite of a profound truth is another profound truth." What does this statement mean? Do you agree with it? Why or why not?
In Jeff Erbach’s The Nature of Nicholas we witness a treatment of the queer or gay as Other. Indeed, the film takes on a very literal representation of what Diana Fuss calls “the homosexual as abject”. The implications of Fuss’ claim on The Nature of Nicholas, therefore, calls for an analysis of how the abject as non-normative is schematized, and used to negotiate the ontological boundaries between Self and Other. Indeed, Fuss’ claim in juxtaposition with the film’s diegesis, produces a discussion of how western narratives of sexuality often require a certain repression of the elements that trouble the stability of the heteronormative “I”, both within one’s self and with in society.

There are numerous reasons why some of the entrepreneurs are more successful than other people. One of the reasons why Woodman is successful is because he followed his passion. Woodman said that “he decided to go to college at the University of California, San Diego because of its proximity to the beach and continued to surf long after finishing college–which eventually brought him to the idea of GoPro” (Mac 2013). His parents were not happy with him choosing a college based on his passion, but if he did not do this, he would never had the chance to become the founder and CEO of GoPro, nor could he become a successful entrepreneur. Another reason is that “he knew how to sell” (Rao 2014). Woodman did not just come up with the idea of GoPro cameras,
Russia was a rural country that once had regime. The majority of Russia was profoundly poor and the few that were rich were extremely wealthy. Their last ruler had been Tsar Nicholas II who was not a natural leader; in fact most people could describe him as a reluctant and feeble monarch. Russia suffered numerous revolutions and defeats in wars under the regime. As a result their country was damaged, economically and socially. Russia was poverty stricken particularly in the countryside where the peasants lived. There were food shortages and a demand for land from the peasants. By 1900 industrialisation took its toll and many peasants moved from the country side to work in factories. Still there was unhappiness: workers demanded better
