“There may be times where we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest”(Elie Wiesel). “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented”(Elie Wiesel). The book “Night” was authored by Elie Wiesel who is a survivor of the holocaust that happened 1993 to 1945 in Germany. It is the story of Elie’s experience that he has during the holocaust with his father there for 90% of the trip.Throughout Elie Wiesel experience as a child in the beginning his father and him had a relationship where they didn’t really conversate because he was too busy on the town, then they began to be closer and finally they became very close. “ I had watched it all happening without moving. I kept silent. In fact, I thought of stealing away in order not to suffer the blows.” Elie watched his father get abused while he sits frozen and does nothing. He couldn’t even go to him and try to help him, instead he felt ashamed at his father for getting beat up. “Yet at the same time a thought crept into my mind: If only I didn’t find him! If only I were relieved of his responsibility…” Elie is starting to think that his father is slowing him down from doing what he want to do which is escape from the holocaust and live to tell the story. “ Don’t forget that you are in a concentration camp. In this place, it is every man for himself… I listened to him without interrupting. He was right, I thought deep down, not daring to admit it to myself.” Elie is listening to people talk about his father saying that he can’t be watching him because he will hold him back.
