Theater 101 Response Paper Handout
No Exit, a play by Jean-Paul Sartre My perception of a theatre was not the most entertaining. I thought that this particular play was going to be plain boring. I thought that I was not going to enjoy anything and the only thing thing that I was going to get out of it was my paper score. My expectations were low because it is hard for me to like a play or any movie. To me, all movies and plays do the same basic performance, same start, same rising, same climax and falling, the only thing different would be the name. I Was a tough spectator. To my surprise, I found the play amazing. The experience was great from the beginning. The box office was in a convenient location, it was right by the entrance of the theatre, not in other building or at a really difficult location to find. The only thing that I did not like about it was that they did not accept credit/debit cards. It would have been more convenient, because some of the audience do not always carry cash. Other than that, everything was fine.
At the entrance of the theatre there was a really nice lady greeting the audience that was going inside. I think that that affected my mood and everybody else 's by making us feel comfortable and welcomed. That was a simple yet convenient gesture, setting the mood of the audience is a very important step in order to have a successful performance. I liked the way the stage was set. I witnessed the construction of the set. As the stage was taking
One feature of the play that really amazed me was the perfection of the acting. The actors and actresses seemed as if they actually were the characters in which they were playing. I was particularly impressed by the way that the characters seemed to actually emotionally feel and exist in their own unique roles. The
Sadly when I arrived at the theater I was not even sure I would be able to focus on the show, for my mother who was meant to see this production with me yet was unable to. Due to unforeseeable circumstances that neither one of us could for see and so with all of this hanging over head I was really hoping to get a laugh from this play, which it did. This was not the first time that I had come to see a play at Boise Little Theater, but definitely this was the first time that I had done it on my own. Which was a tad
After attending this production, it has altered my perception of the theatre. Seeing that the theatre can still tackle modern day problems and present them in a fashion that is entertaining and leaves the audience thinking after the play is done is something I look forward to for future
Overall, the play went well. The actors and the main idea of the play was a metanoia. It was a life changing experience which was very entertaining but drastically scary for a fool’s luck. I loved the play but it changed my perspective on getting
I enjoyed it because it’s really fun to see people that I didn’t even know could act, acting on stage. I saw friends and my sister on stage acting out the play’s for their class. This really got me thinking and I feel I am going to do this next year helping the crew. Throughout the show, they also had small performances which were really nice. Makayla Arroyo and I were laughing and having a lot of fun together. One Acts was really entertaining and I can watch it all day. Something was always happening and it was very amusing. If I am gonna be honest, I did doze off at some points when I was confused or not entertained by something, but overall I was laughing at many parts throughout the shows. For all the classes, the play’s were clear and I understood the plot. Class of 2021 had a simple plot and I understood what was going on but it did seem a little off. I know personally that they were having a hard time coming up with the storyline, however, they came together and finally worked it all out. Class of 2020 worked extremely hard with their play. They put a lot of effort with their time management and really put on a show. Their storyline was clear and laughed a lot. The juniors had very little people working for their play, but for me personally because I am a freshman, the junior’s did a part two and I was confused about the play because I wasn’t there last year to know how it all
No Exit is a French satire play written by Jean-Paul Sartre in 1944. The play takes place in hell with three unfortunate souls, Estelle, Inez, and Cradeau, as the main characters, with the only other character being a boy who shows them to their room where they spend all of eternity. The three characters accurately demonstrate the upper, middle, and lower classes of society. In society they are used to behaving certain ways based on class, called social norms. These social norms are an ideology, which is a belief system, created by society’s cultural conditioning over a lifetime. Once locked in a room with nothing but three chairs and a fireplace, the three characters are forced to live without social norms. Without these monitored behaviors, their identities fade away exposing their deep fears and thoughts.
I attened the Student Directed one Act play festival at McCallum High School, I decided to attend the perfomace of the play by Oscar Wilde called The Importance Of being Earnest,I had briefly read the play my senior year in high shool and loved it so when I saw there was going to be a performance I knew that was the show to Watch. By the time I arrived to the audiotrium the seating was pretty full and eventhough I had to sit towards the back i was still able to hear everything and see. Overall I think the play was put togeether very well the setting was very acturate from what I remeber reading and i was able to follow along clearly, I was not ready for the play to end, and I think several of the audience members could agree with me. I think my favorite moment of the play was a scene between Ernest and Gwendolyn, they are sitting in a garden and Earnest declaires his love for her and proposes and Gwendolyn proceeds to tell Earnest that they are already engaged and she went and picked out the ring on her own, and she records everything that pertains to her in her journal and she shows Earnest the entry she made when he "proposed" to her.
The three adjectives that I jotted down about my impression of the scenery were calm, simple, and almost bare. The stage was small and only had a single bench on it. My first impression of an almost bare stage was that this was a character based performance and that the audience can focus on the characters and their development without any props distracting the audience from their performances. Additionally, the atmosphere felt calm; since there wasn’t any props it was soothing to see only the blue of the stage. It reminded me of the ocean, which is where I go sometimes to calm myself down if I am stressing out. Furthermore, the stage design was simple, which again makes the audience focus strictly on the characters instead of being distracted by props. I enjoyed that aspect because when I usually go see a play, I tend to focus on the props and then I miss out on the character development.
I am interested in watch this drama because its a Tony Award winning production. After reading the play synopsis it seemed interesting to me. This play will be performed April 1 - May 8, 2016 at the Arena Stage. I plan to attend this play August 9th, 2016 at 8pm. The cost of this ticket will be my age plus a processing fee, thus making my total $20. To get to this play it will cost me $8 on the metro.
For my theatrical review, I decided to see the play Mulan. This play had a mix of Mulan 1 and 2 with young kids who had a wonderful and funny personality. In my opinion, I think the actors did a fabulous job in all. If you were sitting in any row, you could see the actors clearly. For example, if the actors were in a line with three people you could see all three actors. No one was being blocked by another actor. The theater was pretty small, which made it easier to see. During the beginning of the play, it seemed like some actors were very nervous by the way they talked and moved. Only a few stuttered and were very tense but they had a smile on their face the whole time. In some scenes, the actors used the entire stage but at the mid-point,
Going into this play, I knew it was at TCR and that was it. I didn't know what to expect from it either. When entering TCR, we were told to go downstairs. I didn't even know they had a basement, I thought it was just the regular theatre I had been to two times previous. I was very surprised to what I saw when I walked down those stairs, as well as I was intrigues by the actors, their performance, clothing, props, and set design.
The afterlife is hell on earth. No Exit is a 1944 existentialist French play by Jean-Paul Sartre. This production features three damned souls, Garcin, Inez, and Estelle who are taken to the same room in hell by a mysterious Valet. Surprisingly, the room is plain and furnished in Second Empire style. Not anyone’s typical image of hell. They wonder where all the torture devices to punish them for eternity could be. None of them will admit the reason for their damnation. This production is essential to today’s audiences. It is my belief that this production will accomplish the following: shining a light on denial and self-delusion even in the most unfortunate situation, that you still have freedom of choice and defining yourself by another’s ideology of who you should be is a prison within itself.
The lawn chairs, however, positioned in the right corner of the stage area in the closing scene of the play, could have been elevated for better viewing of the actors. Also, the well-designed Fat Pig hand-out program did not include/delineate the scene changes, which I think would have been helpful and allow the audience to applaud the performance that was just observed...a definite encouragement to the actors. I particularly enjoyed the music between each scene; i.e., “Shut Up and Dance with Me,” “You Belong with Me,” “Fat Bottom Girls,” etc. were great selections. The costumes were appropriate and reflective of the time, place, and scene of the play being
I reached to the theatre before an hour, and I expected that it will be filled with many viewers. However, it was the second week of the play, the theatre was almost empty. There were a few ushers to check the tickets and to provide programs for Proof. There was enough lighting inside the theatre before the play started. Around 7:20 pm, one of the crew members started the background music. Some crew members were preparing the set for the play. The theatre was empty, and there was silence inside the theatre. I think, this is the only thing that I did not like because there was pin drop silence. Moreover, it was a little inside the theatre. The box office staff and ushers were friendly as always, and that actually inspired me to
As the play started, it had a great start, the only issue I had was after Madame Pernelle busted in the door with the other characters in dialogue with her. They all had a low voice and I didn’t hear what they were saying. All the actors on stage were speaking very low and were positioned far right stage, where only one side of the audience could hear them. I felt like the director could have put them in the middle, so the whole audience can hear the dialogue between them. Not hearing what the actors were saying was frustrating because I was trying to follow along, with what they were saying. It also seemed like all the actors were trying to outshine each other. There were too many things going on at once and it was hard to listen to who was talking. Another thing that I felt was wrong, was Tartuffe’s entrance. It wasn’t as big as anyone else’s. I didn’t even know who was Tartuffe was until the very end of the play. His entrance was very small and it made him look unimportant.
