When faced with a problem, what does one do to solve it? As Voltaire stated, "No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking." Currently, I have been employed with my job for 11 years, but a promotion within my career has always be a goal set to be accomplished. Therefore, I have returned to college to earn a Bachelor’s degree to increase my chances for a promotion. As I finalized my degree program, a supervisor’s position in a competing company becomes available in another state. The position offers a $15,000 per year salary increase, a car allowance, and relocation expenses. Furthermore, my former supervisor works for the company, and is recommending me for the position based on my outstanding job performance; if I want the job, it’s mine. Which seems to be a great opportunity, and what I was seeking. However, this where the problem reveals itself within this opportunity, and it is that I have worked for his company for eleven years, which has allowed me to further my education. Also, it has allowed me to earn a bachelor’s degree, and now I’m being offered a position for another company that is paying more financially but does not offer the education incentive that my current employer offers. Furthermore, a master’s degree is required for this new position, but the fact that they don’t offer tuition reimbursement hurts my chances for advancement. The overall problem breaks down into financial increase and education. Firstly, to analyze the dilemma I must
The employees will value their company and their place in the company. We will have to develop a policy for the new employee where they have to wait two years being with the company before we start paying for their college to make sure people do not come here to get a degree and then leave us. Continuing education and providing educational assistance to employees could be important benefits to add as a perk for working for this company. It should be our company goal to assist in the education, professional and personal growth of our employees. Doing this and Establishing and following through with a tuition reimbursement for our employee will be beneficial to us as a company and our employees. That the company is in the perfect position to start this employee benefit, I would like you to recommended it and get the management to move forward with further exploration of the logistics. The good from this program out weights are cost that comes up because it gives us good and educated employees in the long run. We also we not have to look outside but we can save cost in looking and just promote within the company. With them working on their bachelor’s degree in business can be a positive and helpful in more than one way. Expanding the employee benefits to have tuition reimbursement will increase the level professional opportunities, increase their career options, and improve their earning potential, and increase keeping employee rather than losing them. In all
I decided to go back to school to further my education make more money, and be a role model to my children. With the growing technology in the business world it's now calling for more education. The job the that I'm currently working at offered me a supervisor position but I was told to go back to school and further my education. This gives me a opportunity to make more money. I also want to be a role to my children since Im a single parent. I want them to know there's more to life after high school and the more education you the more money you can
Critical thinking and problem solving are reliable skills for every manager and supervisor across all levels for any business or company. The ability to predict, identify and quickly resolve problems arising out of daily operational issues has become important to keep pace with the changing business requirements. Critical thinking is that mode of thinking about any subject, content or problem in which the thinker improves the quality of thinking by skillfully analyzing, assessing and reconstructing it.
One of the managers finally took pity and confirmed what I”d already suspected: This company was too conservative and old fashioned to bestow the title upon someone without a conventional education and (at least) a four year degree. As you can imagine, it is demoralizing to work that hard and not be recognized in a meaningful way. So when I read about UoPeople offering no cost college classes I was intrigued. At first I was hesitant to start all over again, again, but I realized that it’s still something that I really wanted to do. It’s important to me to have that four year degree that is so necessary to open doors in conventional business. Even if I decide to leave my current employer and work for myself, it’s still something that I’m doing for myself and to set a good example for my family. Now my planned path to this degree begins with the Associates program, and after the UNIV1001 and BUS1101 this term I’m going to take two classes that compliment each other every term until I have enough credits to ask the Office of Student Services for an
I am one of 7 children, and my father is a disabled veteran. He served in the Army for 25 years and the family followed him through 19 moves some of which were overseas, thankfully God preserved us though it all. Because of his service my family qualifies for G.I. bill education benefits, which was how I was able, to attend Salina Tech. Although My attending Salina tech was out of necessity rather, than choice, because it is difficult to stretch 8 years worth of education over 7 children. The idea was that I would use the journeyman electricians license to pay for bachelors in computer science, or electrical engineering. However after interning over the summer 2016 with an electrical contractor, I discovered that I was ill-suited for the poor
Picture this, you’ve been working the same job for 21 years and you’ve been promised a promotion to CFO of the company. This new promotion will come with a yearly salary of $2,000,000. Then one day, you’re on your way to work and you get into a car accident and break your leg. You spend the next year recovering and going through rigorous physical therapy, finally your recovery period is over and you feel great. You go back to your boss ready for your promotion, except he says to you that they’ve found someone new and won’t be giving you the promotion that you were promised. In fact, the company won’t even need you working anymore and have laid you off. This turn of events leaves you with no plan B because your whole life has been working towards
I have been working for the same company for 16 years, I really like my job. The pay is good, the benefits are incredible but there is no other positions available for me to move up. One option for me was to look for another job but my family depends on me financially. I’m the only income and having kids and insurance being so high out of pocket I just can’t afford it. I know that I can get a better job but the fear of me not making it, or not being hired right away is holding me back. After talking to my husband and kids and them pushing me to go back to school I was motivated and eager to start a new experience. My two main stressors are school work and one income family. Going back to school would bring me more bills but thinking
In today’s competitive employment marketplace, gaining a job is merely the fundamental to obtaining success in personal investment. Attaining a spot with a prestigious company will require more than simply investing your time and pausing for your chance to be promoted. Being ready for an advancement opportunity requires preparing yourself in the present job or the one a person might acquire in the future, which may require a commitment to higher education. In acknowledgement of this, some employers provide tuition reimbursement as an employment benefit and as an investment in their organization by retaining educated and informed workers. David Francis of National Bureau of Economic Research stated, tuition assistance
I had to work- most people do- but I really didn't like my job. In fact, I hated it. I was over worked and under paid and my coworkers didn't make the working environment pleasant. I was working in a high stress situation because the office was understaffed. I was physically sick and emotionally finished with my job. There was just one catch. I was working for my sister-in- law’s aunts who treated me like family- making quitting my job nearly impossible. Day in and day out I dragged myself to work from 8:30 a.m. till 7 p.m., listening to kids fight, scream and cry. This was my life as a pediatric dental assistant. After many weeks of contemplation and talking to others I finally got the strength to quit. My bosses were surprised that I did it, but not why. In less than 24 hours, they offered me another position in the office. The choice was mine. What would I decide? They offered me better pay, a different position, and now I had leverage. What should I do with it?
Even with this problem that should not stop one from bettering themself. As said by the article, College Value Goes Deeper Than The Degree, Graduates Say, his parents were poor, just like his childhood friends, but he wanted to change that (Hoover).
The reason is because I want to become a Corporate lawyer. I believe I need to invest into my education, in order to pursue my dreams and goals. I am required to have received a J.D. before I can apply for a job. If I do not go to law school, then I am not able to become a lawyer. The $100,000 in debt I am going to be is a small price to pay in order to achieve my goal. Obviously, paying that amount off by using thousands of dollars every month is not going to be enjoyable. While my bank account slowly decays every month, I will have to think about the positive-landing the job I want in the field I want to be in, doing what I love most. At the end of the day, no amount of money can equal
I also thought about leaving the company to sign up for college as a full time. I had business in mind when I was thinking about school. I wanted a
Critcal thinking and all the things assitocted with this concept are very important for the future and future issues. Society will always have a place for indiviuals who think critaclly. The only down fall to crital thinking is over thinking issues and making them worse a lot of indivluals do this also. The future of the world depends on those who think crtiallly. The more indiviuals pushing the concept the better off the world will
If you were to ask my father how he made the tough decisions in life he would tell you it was simple. Well maybe it is when you have an uncompromising set of ideals and sure sense of what is fair. I can remember when I was only 10 years old and my father was offered a high level position with his company but the position would require for us to move to Texas. We lived in a small town with a great school and lots of friends, my mother and father were both involved in the volunteer Fire Department and I think I knew everyone in town. Everyone looked out for each other and most important we felt safe. My dad easily turned down the position and never regretted it, although I am certain on a professional level he would have enjoyed the challenge. To this day I often think back to that sacrifice when I am analyzing similar options in my career. The first priority in my life is creating a stable nurturing environment for my family, not buying them the most video games. My Dad did ok making money and supporting our family, we had a nice house and plenty of toys and TV’s but what I remember the most was that he was home every night and weekend to enjoy them with us not at the office.
Diabetes is a systemic disease caused by a decrease in the secretion of insulin or reduced sensitivity or responsiveness to insulin by target tissue. (Beale, et al., 2011) The incidence of diabetes is growing rapidly in the United States and worldwide. An estimated 347 million people around the world are afflicted with diabetes. (Whalen, et al., 2012) According to World Health Organization (WHO), Diabetes prevalence among adults over 18 years of age has risen from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. It is the major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and limbic amputation. World Health Organization (WHO) projects that diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death in 2030. It is a complex and costly disease that can affect nearly every organ in the body and result in devastating consequences. The leading cause of non-traumatic lower extremity amputations, renal failure, and blindness in working-age adults, diabetes is also a major cause of premature mortality, stroke, cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, congenital malformations, perinatal mortality, and disability. (Cefalu, 2000) Insulin therapy and oral hypoglycemic agents have demonstrated improvement in glycaemic control. However, Insulin therapy has some disadvantages such as ineffectiveness following oral administration, short shelf life, of the need for constant refrigeration, and fatal hypoglycaemia, in the event of excess dosage.
