Non Profit Organizations Paper

For this non-profit organization paper, I interviewed my grandpa. My grandpa’s name is Joseph Kraphol. He is the president of the Genesee County parks. In case you don’t know where that is, it is pretty much the whole Flint area. They have over 15 places to visit that are considered the Genesee County parks. Including things like nature trails, boat launches, campgrounds, parks, and the famous one, Crossroads Village. All of these are very popular and a lot of people know what they are.

The fourth nonprofit I analyzed is called GreaterGood which is an online website that sells a wide range of products that have been made across the world and uses the profit generated by sales to donate to a variety of different nonprofits that have a specific mission (Help, 2015, p.1). The specific nonprofits that GreaterGood donates to breast cancer, animal rescue, veterans, autism, diabetes, the rainforest, and the one that is specific to my area of analysis the hunger site. This style of nonprofit expressed by the GreaterGood charity is extremely unique because of the extreme differences in charities they are partners with. With the multiple charities they work with I would be confident in arguing that the GreaterGood-hunger site is a path-goal leadership style.

A company is described as a non-profit company when the company is tax exempt because serves a public purpose. Non-profits fall into the categories of being charitable, educational, scientific, etc.  These companies can make profit, but they are not designed for primarily profit making. This means the purpose of a non-profit is to give to give services and support to the community, raising money to fund these programs, rather than personal economic gain for the company itself. Human service agencies play an important role of support services for the community, whether it be helping people find houses, jobs, groceries, lawyers, etc. Human service workers are the vital resource for those in need of guidance and support. Human service programs are implemented to give the individual's self-esteem, problem solving skills, confidence to change their behaviors to better themselves, and education on how to integrate back into society. I am interested in non-profit for the motives of community, personal life experiences, and giving back. I firmly believe non-profit is the only logical structure for businesses to operate from. The reason behind this belief is the fact that when an organization is communal, efficiency is more of a result and resources become less scarce. When organizations are not for profit, the inequality gap slowly but surely closes. I am an advocate for non-profit due to my life experiences; I grew up in a rough, low-income, and diverse neighborhood in the city of Denver, Colorado.

Not for profit organisations consist of organisations that are not run for the profit or personal gain of individual/s. They are often referred to as charities and provide benefit services to society, often encouraging people to band together by sharing resources to achieve a common goal. Profits can be obtained by these organisations but must applied for the organisations purposes. These organisations include Surf life-saving, Churches, and Salvation Army etc. (Sessoms, 2014).

Let’s help give back to nonprofit organizations!! Nonprofit, also called not-for-profit corporations, do not supply their own money. Nonprofit corporations are created according to state law. They must file a statement of corporate purpose with the Secretary of State, pay a fee, create articles of incorporation, conduct regular meetings, and fulfill other obligations to achieve and maintain corporate status. Different things go into running a nonprofit organization. The leader of the organization needs to make sure that all requirements needed to run a nonprofit organization are met, also dealing with outside contributors. Contributors play a big part in a nonprofit organization. There are multiple options involving funding a nonprofit organization. They can get funding for multiple reasons and in multiple ways; for example, sponsorship, corporate giving, grant funding, donations, and fundraising are ways to fund a nonprofit organization.

Many companies provide products and services that help better people's lives. Non-profit organizations support many different causes that are prevalent in our communities.

A non-profit organization cannot be effectively managed if it is not effectively planned. One of the challenges facing non-profit organizations has been long range, strategic planning. Long range, strategic planning in the non-profit sector is essential to the success of an organization. Long range, strategic planning encompasses broad policy and direction setting, internal and external assessments, attention to key stakeholders, the identification of key issues, development of strategies to deal with each issue, decision making, action and the continuous monitoring of results. (Herman, The Jossey-Bass Handbook of Nonprofit Leadership and Management, 154) While it is important to deal with the short term planning and activities of non-profits, managers or directors must consider the future of their organizations. Successful planning should be comprehensive, integrating all areas of responsibility of an organization.
