Did you know that there are two Americas? North America and South America are two of the seven continents on Earth. We live in North America, while a Brazilian is from South America. These two continents have more things in common than their names, yet they are two vastly different continents. North America is a continent wholly within the Northern Hemisphere and almost wholly within the Western Hemisphere.South America is a continent located in the Western Hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. North America is 9.54 million square miles in area while South America is just 6.88 million square miles in area. The physical geography of North America is diverse and can be divided
The English Colonies diversified greatly in their social surroundings throughout the Northern and Southern territories due to the differences in economic productivity, infant mortality, and marriage. The economies of the colonies widely differed from North to South. Southern colonies that included the Chesapeake colony especially, had the large scale farm as the main backbone for profit. Soil was rich and the temperature change was not as rampant as the North. Sugar and Tobacco demand in Europe allowed much of these large farms to expand and become extremely common in the South. Poor soil quality in the North pushed colonists to do lumber, furs, and fishing to stimulate their economy. Soil and weather allowed these colonies to have these stark
Even though the North and the South origins were both from Europe, their customs and living habits were different. The North and the South began to notice these differences as they broke away from Britain in the Revolutionary War. The North and South emerged into two different regions, due to their various differences. These differences included the geography, the economy, the social and classification status, and transportation.
Until the late 1400's, Europeans did not know the existence of the two American continents ( North and South America ). To the European explorers, exploring the other side of the Atlantic was like exploring an entire different world, hence the name- the New World. In 1492, Christopher Columbus unknowingly discovered the new continent. His original motives for exploring was to find an easier route to Asia but instead, he discovered the New World. Thus; Spain, France and England began sending out conquistadors and explorers to the uncharted terrains of the new continent. Motives for the Spanish, French, and English explorers varied greatly, however, they were similar in some ways. The motives of the Spanish explorers were acquisition of
About 225 million years ago, according to the theory of “Pangaea,” the world was once a single supercontinent that contained all the dry land. Approximately 10 million years ago, North America was shaped by the majestic Canadian Shield. About 2 million years ago, in North America, the grand glaciers laid the land of Canada and the United States, southbound as far as from Pennsylvania all the way to the Pacific Northwest. Recently, about 135 million to 25 million years ago, four massive ranges—the Rockies, the Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, and the Coast Ranges, arose in western North America. About 35000 years ago, the ancestors of the Native Americans, the nomadic Asian hunters, first
Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the Industrial Revolution reconstructed Britain, the United States, Russia, and Latin America through changes in means of production, the economy, and social conditions. Although all four areas ended up with similar effects of the Industrial Revolution, Britain and the United States’ means to transform were different than those of Russia and Latin America.
Millions of years ago according to scientist the whole world was one large mass called Pangea. When this mass began to split, it divided the Americas from the Eastern World along with the people on it. This resulted in tens of thousands years apart from one another which led to different developments on each continent. After all these years though a man named Columbus’s discovers the Americas in 1492. As soon as he took
The North and the South emerged as two distinctly different sides during the antebellum period. The major differences that emerged during this time revolved around geography/climate, transportation, society and economy. Under these categories involve population, industry and culture. These differences are what shaped each region during this time period.
In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed to find the Indies, but instead he found an undiscovered continent which would soon be called the New World. The New World was full of fresh possibilities, promises of treasures, and religious freedom; it was a place that could be called home. After years of conquest and settling, four regions came about on the East Coast of North America: New England, the Middle Colonies, the Southern Colonies, and the Chesapeake colonies. The colonists had their similarities such as that they were ruled by England, though their government was the majority self-governed, they were mostly Protestants who did not agree with the Roman Catholic Church, they had the same culture, and there was some religious tolerance. Despite these similarities, they were still quite different.
About 200 million years ago there was one big continent called Pangaea. They believed that, this landmass began to separate. They believed that the Atlantic Ocean formed, dividing Africa and Eurasia from the Americas. Over the next several million years plants and animals changed and made to separate biological worlds. It wasn’t until Christopher Columbus and his crew sailed to the Americas in October 1492, they started interacting with each other.
In 1492 Columbus discovered the “new world” which is now known as the Americas today. Furthermore, in the 1700 people from the English origin traveled across the sea to North America to start a new life. When they got to North America the people settled in two regions, the Chesapeake and the New England region. Even though these people came from the same place they thrived in two different societies. Some of the countless reasons why these two regions are different from each other are religion, ways of life, and economics.
Historically speaking, homosapiens have inhabited the North America for millions of years as they came over on Pangaea’s land bridges. However, it wasn't until Columbus’s “discovery” of the Americas and the Great Migration, that the population of North America began to stabilize and grow to form the two distinct regions. These two distinct regions eventually became known as the New England colonies and the Chesapeake Bay colonies. Some of the differences between the two regions included motivation of colonists, immigration patterns, and settlement patterns.
Even though Columbus did find his way to the Americas, it was not North America he discovered. In fact, he never stepped foot in the United States during his four expeditions. Columbus actually made landfall in various islands located in what is now known as the Bahamas, which had hundreds of thousands Native American inhabitants that had already made
Although they settled on the same coast, due to vastly different geographys, the North became commercial while the South focused on agriculture. A warmer climate meant tobacco flourished in southern colonies. Because of this, the South was able to exploit the tobacco industry making it a very valuable cash crop. However, in the North, poorer soil and a colder climate made growing crops much more difficult. As a result, northern colonies quickly realized they needed to trade natural resources, contrary to the southern colonies crops. A woodsier geography in the North meant great trading of lumber. Exceeding amounts of lumber meant a lot of ships were made, causing the North to thrive on a commercial economy. In the South, rivers allowed for easy shipment of crops. This meant southern colonies could thrive on selling crops back to their European states, making them flourish with an agricultural economy.
The Great Depression is one of the most misunderstood events in not only American history but also Great Britain, France, Germany, and many other industrialized nations. It also has had important consequences and was an extremely devastating event in America. It was the longest and most severe depression ever experienced by the industrialized Western world. When the New York Stock Exchange crashed in October 1929, the United States dropped sharply into a major depression. The world was in wide demand for agricultural goods during World War I, but they had rapidly decreased after the war and rural America experienced a severe depression throughout most of the 1920's and even on into the 1930's.
The Latin America region is south of North America on the world map. This region was once filled with countries that were at one point colonialized by European countries, but these countries are now independent. The Latin American region consists of mainly the South America continent, Central America, and Mexico. Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, Chile, and many other countries make up this region. One thing that many people do not know is that Puerto Rico is an American territory and its inhabitants are United States citizens. The Latin American region does not offer the best economic situations, but it does have many other aspects to it.
