The most excitement actually came from an emergency situation that arose with one of the nurse’s family members who was shadowing her for the day. The patient would suddenly become ill without any warning. His heart rate and blood pressure dropped drastically and his lips became pale. He was rushed to the stress lab to get vital signs but we had a hard time placing the leads on his chest due to hyperhidrosis. Surprisingly within minutes his color came back and he also became more responsive. As we continued monitoring him, his heart rate and blood pressure returned to normal. At one point
After observing my mother in at the emergency room where she works, I finally understand the difficulty of being a doctor. Doctors constantly having to take care of anyone who walks through the door on a stretcher. Doctors have to try their best to feel empathetic towards everyone, putting themselves in other people’s shoes and trying to understand their situation. Whether they are good or bad, it doesn’t matter, the main goal is to stabilize the patients and make sure they receive the help they need. For example, last night walked in a psychopath who had killed 3 people, who also stabbed himself in attempt at suicide. Target population was pregnant women less than fourteen weeks gestation that had a sedentary lifestyle. The researcher used two data collection instruments to complete this study. The first is The Cornell Protocol Fitness Tool that measured cardiovascular fitness level and peak oxygen consumption. The second data collection instrument used was The Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire assessed energy expenditure and daily physical activity. According to American Nurses Association nursing can be defined as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness”. (American Nurses Association 2016) Nursing is a career where a person, should have compassion, a caring heart, and be devoted to their client care. Sometime person goes into the nursing field for the money, job stability, and because a person 's family member wants them to go into the nursing field. I feel like the future of nursing have yet to be determined.
Nursing can be a demanding career, but the benefits far much outweigh the challenges. Most importantly, it’s the rewards it offers by allowing an opportunity to make a difference in another person’s life through the provision of care when they need it. Just as Patricia Benner theorized in her book “Novice to Expert,” nursing encompasses both educational knowledge and extensive clinical experience acquired throughout one’s career. This far, I continue to acquire knowledge and clinical knowhow which will promote proper and efficient care to patients. Since I began practicing one year ago in a long-term healthcare facility, I have interacted with patients, families, physicians and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient’s care which has enabled me to gain confidence in myself. While I cannot deny that it was difficult to transition from a student to a licensed nurse, I learnt to overcome these challenges and focus on my strengths. Practicing as an LPN has provided a platform to learn and gain experience even though the duties and responsibilities are limited by the scope of practice.
The patient is a 12 year old female who presented to the ED with thoughts of self harm and cutting behaviors. The patient denies suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and symptoms of psychosis. My practicum setting will be an associate degree nursing program, Joliet Junior College (JJC), one of the oldest community colleges in Illinois. During many years the role of school nurse was traditionally viewed as one where the nurse cared for students that were injured, applied bandages and gave out ice bags. Throughout the years the role of the school nurse has evolved into one of leadership and management along with many other duties including traditional roles as mentioned above. The services provided by a school nurse range from assessment and screening to coordinating care for regular students as well as students with special needs. Lily was a 65 year old lady with stage 5 CKD, she had recently begun hemodialysis treatment three times a week as an inpatient and had been responding well to treatment. During dialysis treatment on the morning of the first day, Lily’s observations showed that she was: tachycardic, hypotensive, tachypnoeaic, had an oxygen saturation level of 88% and was becoming confused and drowsy. There are only a few requirements perhaps having the nurse with the lower patient acuity do the nursing group. The cost would be minimal such as providing the patient with printed material for them to read as some of them learn better by reading.
I arrived at Eastwood at 8:30 AM to pick TO's book and to get everything ready for the doctor' office. . I went to Bridges main office around 9 AM to pick up a paper for TO's doctor to sign. I picked TO up at 9:30 from HESTIC to attend her doctor's appintment. TO had an appointment with Subedi at 9:45 AM. TO and I were at the doctor's office until 11:15 AM. While TO and staff waited TO went to the thrift shop at TRP and picked up a small cup for her lunch pail. TO was returned to HESTIC at 11:30 AM.
